After puttering around with cool-for-the season weather, Mom Nature flipped that switch and gave us full-on summer heat this week. I’m going to pretend it’s summer, because summer is way too short around here. Here’s how my workouts went.
Monday: Walk 4 miles, otherwise rest
Tuesday: Walk 4 miles, 30 mins Bootcamp
Wednesday: Walk 2 miles,30 min bike intervals, Upper Body Strength
Thursday: Walk 2 miles. Run 3 miles, Bootcamp workout
Friday: Walk 2 miles, Bike Intervals, Summer Challenge video production
Saturday: Walk 4 miles, Run 4 miles
Sunday: Walk 4 miles, Heavy Strength
Refamiliarizing myself with those hot, humid conditions.
It was a single-parenting week. Business travel is most definitely ramping up. My biggest accomplishment this week was in the garden. As I type I’ve got it 99% planted. Just a tiny bit left to go.
Who doesn’t love a hibiscus as big as your head?
I also spent lots of time with Thing 1 (when she wasn’t out seeing old friends) while Thing 2 finished up her final days of school. There were lunches, dinners, shopping junkets, she even walked with me a few times. The equipment for her AT&T internship (electronics, etc.) arrived and she’s ready to get started Monday morning. Exciting times ahead, I am sure. Thing 2 had her final Band concert of the school year. She also got her band placement for sophomore year. While it’s mandatory for freshmen to be in freshman band, after that kids audition to be placed in one of five more advanced bands. While it did not surprise me one bit, I was delighted to learn that my little flutist was placed in the highest level band. She’s amazing and she doesn’t even know it.

How was your week? Did summer arrive with a vengeance?
I’m linking up with Kim and Deborah for the Weekly Run Down. Join us!

It just got hot here, too! I’m running early so it is only 70s, but that is still hot for me. Stay cool!

Yupper, Summer sure did arrive. Not so much humidity, thankfully. I’m ok with it, the hard part is getting out there like a couple of hours earlier than I’m used to. Plus getting Bandit walked before it’s too hot. Just takes some juggling.
I take it the tooth was all fixed up?
Congrats to both Things for all the good things ahead of them.

It really did heat up quickly! I’m ok with it if it means we can get outside during the day. Running is feeling harder, but I guess we will have to acclimate at some point. Glad you are getting to spend some quality time with your older daughter!
Deborah Brooks says
It was already 85 when I finished my run this morning! I am not quite ready for that huge jump yet and I promised myself I would not start complaining about the heat until June lol. Your you tube videos look great keep em coming!

Yay for time with Thing One. Is she about to venture into the world of Zoom/Teams meetings? I have a “virtual lunch” with one of our summer interns tomorrow. I think eating on Zoom will be quite awkward ….
I love that hibiscus!
Did you get your dental appointment?
Kim G says
Such a busy week for you! Congrats on finishing your garden – love the photo of that hibiscus flower!
The heat this weekend was crazy. I think we hit 85-90 both days. I’m not ready for this type of weather just yet!
Jessie says
This weather came in HOT 🙂 How fun you got to spend of quality time with your daughter and congrats on her internship.

Summer arrived quickly here too. I’m trying not to whine!
Congrats to your daughter on her band placement – how exciting!
That hibiscus is huge. I’m looking forward to finishing up my plantings this week.

Huge congrats to your amazing flutist!!!! I played flute in band, and was decently “good,” but didn’t have the passion to really hone in on any skill I had. And, small town HS band didn’t afford much opportunities other than the local scene, so there wasn’t much for incentives (I know, #excuses). We put in our salsa garden a few weeks ago, but I still have some sunflowers and zinnias (seeds) that need to get in the ground. I’ve been playing the procrastination card on those…

Glad to see you are running again.
Yes summer has arrived
For some reason I’m way behind in my gardening.
Jenny says
Congratulations to your daughter! Your school must have an amazing music program if they have that many bands. My little flute player is in 6th grade and has her very first band concert Tuesday night (they had one in December but there was no audience allowed so I don’t count that.) We can go to this one and I can’t wait!
How is your tooth? It must be feeling better because it sounds like you had a great week of workouts. In spite of the heat!
Cari says
This weekend was ridiculous. I an not ready for summer.
Congrats to Thing 1 and Thing 2 on their internship/music success

Still raining here. And chilly. It’s such a bummer! But then again we can’t really do much right now anyway. At least we aren’t – some things have opened up but Ron and I are waiting first for our vaccines. Exciting times for Thing 1 and Thing 2 – not super surprising the Super Flautist placed in the highest level band!
Good week for you – are you single parenting long or is the Caveman back already?
Jenn says
Summer keeps popping in and out here. The days will go up to 90 degrees, but early mornings will be high 50s/low 60s. It’s annoying lol!
I’m excited for business travel again. Sometimes, I get to tag along!
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
Very exciting about the band placement! That’s a great accomplishment. Also a great accomplishment getting your garden all planted. I’m not quite there yet, but slowly getting stuff done.
Zenaida Arroyo says
Crazy how hot it got! I am surprised about it being mandatory for her to in freshman band. That is interesting. When I was in HS I had to take a music class and there were options for me. I’ve never seen a live hibiscus plant. I use the dry ones to make a tea/drink.
