The final week of March was another busy one. The weather was way more wintery than spring-like and oh that icy wind was brutal…until glorious 70 degree temps rolled in to the rescue on the weekend. Here’s how the week in workouts went:
Monday: Walk 4 miles, Rest Day
Tuesday: Walk 4 miles, 20 minutes bike intervals,
Wednesday: Walk 4 miles, Trail Run 3 miles
Thursday: Walk 4 miles, 30 minutes Bike, Corework
Friday: Walk 4 miles, Run 4 miles, Mobility + Balance
Saturday: Walk 4 miles, 3o Minutes Bike Workout
Sunday: Walk 4 miles, Heavy Strength
Running miles were light this week because I strained my back on Monday morning, doing “nothing” of course. Ha! Thankfully it resolved within a couple of days.
The trails are still brown and bare but I think things will be bursting into bloom very soon. I wish I would’ve worn gloves on this run because my poor fingers were icicles. Garmin continues to call my runs “unproductive” although the VO2max points I managed to gain during my run streak in Florida haven’t disappeared.
Podcast Palooza
I recorded not one, not two, not even three, but FOUR podcast episodes this week. I’m tired just typing that. I’ll give you a heads up when those air.
Passover/Easter
We chose to not gather for either so the holidays were enjoyed quietly at home, alone. Upon her request I did have an egg hunt for just Thing 2. Will they ever be too old to want one of those? I think not.

6 Essential Exercises for Runners. I get asked all the time what sort of strength training is most beneficial to runners so here are 6 simple yet essential exercises you can do right at home. No equipment needed.
March Report Card
For once I set some goals. Here’s how I did:
Dial in nutrition. A-. I’m eating MUCH better than I did in Florida and I can feel and see the difference. If it wasn’t for a brief run-in with some PB M&Ms, I’d get an A+.
Continue the walk streak. A. Our walks are a very ingrained habit after a solid year of doing them.
Continue with yoga. F. The quick yoga sequence I started doing in Florida went right out the window when I got home.
Daily pushups. F. I stopped doing these as well. No idea why.
Return to strength training. A. Strength training is going very well. Better than running.
Return to bike riding. I’m giving myself a B here. I’ve done great on my spin bike but there’s been zero effort made toward getting my road bike tuned up and ready to ride.
Decluttering. A. Lots of purging happened in March. In the closet, the bathroom vanity, the mudroom and the pantry. There’s always more to do though.
I’ll leave you with this sunrise scene from one of my runs, in case you missed it on Instagram.
How was your final week of March? Did you set goals for April? Any April fool’s gags?
I’m linking up with Kim and Deborah for the Weekly Run Down. Join us!

Love your sunrise! We had a good April Fools that our iconic Selfridge’s building had been bought by Cadbury and the silver discs were being changed to chocolate buttons … No goals for April apart from run 20 miles a week to keep myself well. Might be attempting a half marathon distance next weekend but we’ll see …

That sunrise photo is stunning! I’m so worried whenever I tweak my back now — I guess that’s what happens when you’re our age. I lost my push-up strength when I fractured my ribs. I tried doing some today and they were HARD.
I didn’t see my kids today, so no Easter egg hunt, but I did send them Easter Starbucks cards. 😉
Deborah Brooks says
It is the week for sore backs! Hope yours feels better soon. I also feel so much better when I eat better. Obvious I know but it really makes a difference for me. Sounds like you are really busy work wise! Fun stuff you are doing. Have a great week and thanks for linking

Great job with your goals! I actually did do some decluttering last week…I cleaned out my clothes but just moved them to the spare bedroom. Next steps is to actually donate them.

I didn’t play any April Fool’s jokes and no one played any on me- it was a boring day! Next year I’ll have to spice it up a little.
Sorry about your back. That’s like my neck thing from a few weeks ago- I literally hurt it doing nothing. I hope it feels better soon.
Jessie says
Wow- that sunrise picture is stunning! What a way to wake up 🙂
Love the 6 essential strength training exercises!
De-cluttering is so satisfying, isn’t it?

I did your 6 essential workout after my run yesterday. It was a good one!
Sorry about your back, but I’m glad it was short-lived. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve tweaked mine doing nothing – crazy, right?!
No Easter egg hunt this year – my youngest declared he was too old, but still wanted the chocolate bunny I always buy. I runfess that I missed doing the hunt.

That sunrise is amazing. So sorry about the back, but glad it resolved easily. It’s easier & easier to tweak things as we get older. 🙁
No 70s here, alas, in fact still Winter-like in the mornings. But that’s Spring-like for here, sometimes there’s still snow on the ground at this time of year & there isn’t so I’m happy!
I have done a lot of decluttering, starting and stopping, for the past year. Things are better, but if anyone dropped over unannounced . . . well, things can always be better, right?
Congrats on scoring all those podcasts! I have begun to think about that sort of thing. And that’s as far as I’ve gotten . . .
Beckett @ Birchwood Pie says
My stepsons are “too old” for Easter eggs but not too old for Easter baskets. All that we ever do is put candy and a bit of money in the same tired old baskets but they love it.
Looking forward to the podcasts! I hope they come out soon.
Darlene S. Cardillo says
Congrats on those podcasts. Your own or on others?
Great job on your goals.
I don’t set any really. But if I did I’d be delinquent on yoga or strength training and biking.
At least I still run and walk.
Kimberly Hatting says
My back was cranky Thursday morning, but I blame the extended couch time (Wednesday evening). I totally get the need to keep the daily walks going strong. I sometimes look forward to them more than running. Fingers crossed all of that icky winter crap is history for awhile…
Catrina says
Love that sunrise, Marcia!
I am with you on the pushups. I remember you set them as your goal – so did I, and I failed miserably.
I need to make it an ingrained habit – like you successfully did with your daily walks!
Renée @runlaugheatpie says
Sorry about your back, Marcia. Glad it’s resolving itself though!
I would say you still had a good March. Even though some things fell by the wayside. You do have quite some things going on at the moment so par for the course, no?
I think I set goals in Feb but haven’t done so since then. I am sometimes just trying to get through the day so I’m leaving it for now.
Jenn says
We don’t do April Fool’s. I don’t like it.
I also try to get in the habit of certain regular workout things, and then I just stop. I need to get better about that.
Zenaida Arroyo says
Decluttering feels so good. It is amazing how much stuff one can accumulate. Excited for those podcasts. Lately I’ve listened to a few. I am liking them! This weather is wonderful. I am loving it.
