We made it home from Florida safe and sound. Thankfully the house is intact and actually not as dusty as I expected it to be. I’ve been busy with the reentry process: restocking food, doing laundry, going through gobs of mail and resettling in. Here’s how the week in workouts went:
Monday: Walk 4 miles, Yoga
Tuesday: Walk 4 miles, Women’s Day 5k
Wednesday: Walk 4 miles, Rest Day
Thursday: Walk 4 miles, Upper Body Strength & Mobility
Friday: Walk 4 miles, Run 3 miles, Lower Body Strength + Balance
Saturday: Walk 4 miles, Run 4 miles
Sunday: Walk 4 miles, Heavyish Strength
The sunlight is so much stronger than when we left. I hear some new-for-the-season bids singing and I even saw fish breaking the surface of the small part of the pond that isn’t still frozen over. With a little bit of research I learned the bird call I’ve been hearing is that of the Black-Capped Chickadee.
While my prairie trails are mostly clear, the wooded trails are still deep in snow. We have a few days in the 60s in the forecast so I’m hoping for some significant melting.
I repped my state in the ZOOMA International Women’s Day 5k. This year we are excited to have participants from all 50 states and 27 countries!
We had a long Meeting with our Kitchen Designer and I’m feeling better about the project. We have everything set except an accent backsplash for part of the kitchen and a faucet for the kitchen sink. It’s calming when you see all the materials you picked out put together and they make sense! I’m sure there’s plenty of stress to come though.
Fun Mail
My friends at Balega surprised me with this rainbow assortment of socks in fresh colors for spring. I’m loving the Boco Gear mask as well. I wear a thinner Balega sock in the gym and I’m excited to try the Ultra Light and Ultra Glide.
Nutrition Goals
While the weight gain sustained over our month in Florida is negligible, my measurements tell a different story. Ugh. Clearly I have lost muscle mass (which weighs more but takes up less space) and gained fat, (which is lighter but fluffier). This week on the nutrition front was solid, although the battle with sugar cravings rages on. Other than a little dark chocolate, my nutrition game this week was strong.
New On YouTube
Lower Body Strength & Balance Workout. I kicked my own behind with this one. This workout awakens lazy glutes and strengthens the posterior chain as well as the quads. Plenty of balance challenges too. No equipment needed.
Watching
After one episode, we stopped watching Behind Her Eyes and switched to Canine Intervention on Netflix. It was fascinating and gives me so much hope for Pit Bulls especially. We’re back to Behind Her Eyes now. We’re only two episodes in but I runfess I still don’t care for it that much.
I’ll leave you with this sunrise. It’s not Florida but still pretty.
How was your week? Is it feeling like spring?
I’m linking up with Kim and Deborah for the Weekly Run Down. Join us!

Well it’s been windy all week and ridiculously cold this weekend. Things are looking better this week.
I’ll be following your kitchen project since I want to do ours this summer.
Welcome back. Love sunsets anywhere.
I’ll do that 5k tomorrow

Welcome home! The layer of snow and ice that we had for the entire month of February has finally cleared out and it is so nice have full access to the outdoors again. I am in desparate need of a good TV show…if the TV drought goes on much longer I might be forced to start doing productive stuff like playing piano or actually writing all of the blog post ideas that I’m kicking around.

Glad to have you back nearby! I’ve heard some new-to-me birds singing as well. Climate change?
I felt that way about Behind Her Eyes, but hey, it’s only 6 episodes. It was interesting enough.

Yes, welcome to Spring! I’ve been nixing the at-work candy, and (so far) I don’t miss it, even the dark chocolate. I had a lower-body workout that totally kicked my backside last week, too. OUCH. Glad you made it home safely 😉

Congrats on getting back on track, nutrition wise. SO hard to break bad habits.
I somehow missed your new video. Added to my playlist as my balance is shit and I somehow magically think strength and balance will fix it.

I really liked the first episode of Canine Intervention – I have Behind Her Eyes in my cue but I keep hearing mixed reviews.
Sounds like your kitchen reno is moving along nicely! Looking forward to seeing pictures.
I bookmarked your new video and will be adding it to the rotation this week!

I’ve heard some mixed reviews on Behind Her Eyes so that’s why I haven’t started it yet. The other show you mentioned sounds interesting – I might check that out today.
Glad to hear that things are moving along with the kitchen project. I know you will be so happy when everything is all done!
Deborah Brooks says
we started with behind her eyes too and meh not sure yet on that one. Finding your groove nutrition wise is tricky isn’t it? seems like you have to really stay ahead of the game! I am excited to see temps in the 60’s this week too enjoy them!

Glad you got back safely! I bet its nice knowing that spring will be here soon. Hopefully all that snow on the trails will melt quickly!

I have to laugh at you referring to fat as “fluffy.” My kids accuse me of overfeeding the cats and making them fat, and I always say “They’re not fat, they’re fluffy!” I think it’s normal to have a little more fluff after the winter- sounds like you’re getting everything back on track!

That sunrise is gorgeous! LOL on the post-vacation laundry. It is a chore. I’m really struggling with my eating habits. I am so tired of planning and cooking healthy meals, I’m reaching for convenience foods and frozen entrees more often, and then snacking more because they are not satisfying ….

Welcome back to Illinois life, Marcia. Amazing how much laundry there is and how body composition can change in so little time. Super excited to hear about your kitchen redo and see the results!

That sunrise is still plenty stunning!
Sugar is the devil. Nuf said.
Last week was definitely Winter here. But this week should be much better — eventually.
We’re getting towards the end of Cobra Kai on Netflix. Basically Karate Kid reimagined for more modern times. I was VERY resistant to watching it, despite loving Karate Kid, and the first season was kind of meh, but it gets better & glad we stuck with it.

I stuck with “Behind Her Eyes” as a treadmill show, but honestly wouldn’t recommend it. I never watched “Better Call Saul” so have started that for something new. Hopefully treadmill Netflix is over though, ha! I do want to check out Canine Intervention though- that sounds right up my alley!
Glad you made it home safely and are settling back into a routine!

All those socks – hooray! I loved doing the race and was so impressed by Zooma’s organisation, with my medal and other bits arriving on the 8th. Would definitely do one of their virtuals again.

I wear both the ultralight and ultralight. Those are my favorite Balega socks. I am not a big fan of the cushioned ones. That is so exciting about the kitchen. Do you know when it will be completed?
