I never do posts like these, because truth be told, I’m not a great goal setter. I like to think most of my fitness is pretty automatic, but upon review, I’ve noticed several things have fallen by the wayside. It is no small task to keep all the plates in the air so to speak. So I went ahead and set some simple, measurable goals. I didn’t set any running goals, because I’m not training for anything. But all of these things will definitely help my running.
First let’s hit some February highlights
Continue the walk streak. This started almost a year ago when the pandemic shutdown started. The Caveman and I walk 2 miles every morning and 2 miles in the evening. It’s been a great way to connect and enjoy some fresh air together. This was an easy one to accomplish in Florida.
Daily run streak. I never intended to do a run streak but the mornings in Florida were too nice not to. Maybe because I kept the miles low (between 1 and 3), I never felt sore or tired. I’m calling this one a win.
Daily corework. At the beginning of the year, corework was part of the Love Run Challenge I coach for ZOOMA. Over the course of 6 weeks we worked up to 100 reps of various kinds of core exercises. At the beginning the reps challenged most of us, including me. The challenge ended on 2/14 and I’ve stuck with the 100 daily reps. 100 doesn’t feel hard at all anymore.
Yoga. In Florida I started doing a very quick yoga sequence that consisted of Cobra, Cat-Cow, Child’s Pose Up Dog and Down Dog, coupled with some nice breathing.
Goals for March
Dial in nutrition. I mentioned before how far off in the ditch my nutrition went in Florida. I won’t repeat the full AutoImmune Protocol I did at the beginning of 2020 because it’s not necessary. I do plan to be strict with no gluten and soy, and keep added sugars to a bare minimum. I feel so much better I feel when I eat well.
Continue the walk streak. As it warms up this will be a no brainer.
Continue with yoga. I plan to do at least the quick sequence I started in February. I can’t promise more at this point. Ha!
Daily pushups. For years I did at least one set of 30 pushups every day…until I didn’t. I started doing them again in Florida. I’m up to 20 and I’m going to continue.
Return to strength training. This will be an easy one because I love my heavy strength. I could tell by the way I felt when I carried Ozzy through the airport that I’ve lost some strength.
Return to bike riding. I missed my bike so I plan on at least two rides per week to start. My stretch goal is to get Blanche the trusty road bike in for a tune up. Like I said STRETCH goal.
Decluttering. I read a challenge somewhere that included getting rid of one thing every day for the duration of Lent. I’m doing that. I’ve also got two big bags sitting here that need to be donated.
Are you a goal setter? What are your goals for March?

Nice March goals, Marcia!
You won’t believe it, but I have set push-ups as my goal too. I learned to do them correctly (https://www.marksdailyapple.com/how-to-proper-pushup-technique/) and now I would like to do 50 in 3 sets. I’ll give myself time until May. 😊

Looks like some great goals to get ready for summer! I’m doing some ‘rehab’ right now; addressing some ongoing issues that have gotten worse instead of better. It’s a good time to do it since there aren’t any races to train for!

I’m not a goal setter at all.
But these are great.
I may steal a few. Like de cluttering.
I also start planning. So far two days done.
If I was in Fla I too would run everyday.

I was really good about walking last spring and all the way through December. I kind of fell off of it in Jan and Feb but I am back on for March. It always feels good to get outside. I have also been doing daily 10 m core and really see a difference vs 4 days a week. Sounds like you have some great goals in place!

Oh, Blanche will be happy to be back in action! It’s about time to get Gustavas out of hiding. Sebbe has been a loyal winter companion, but I much prefer to be outside on the roads. Besides, I have a few new jerseys that are ready for some attention 😉 I’ve been on a 10-per-day pushup streak since last February. I sometimes do more (if they’re part of a workout), but they’ve kept me disciplined.

I do love goals & it sounds like you’ve got good ones! I never set mileage goals either, but I know for some people they’re very motivating.
I wish I could get my husband to walk twice a day — or even 2 miles! At least he’s actually been much better about walking every day, it used to literally be like pulling teeth.
Good luck Marcia!

Alright, I’m picking two of yours to add to my routine in March! Daily pushups and decluttering. I do pushups, but sporadically, and it would be a simple thing to add to each day. And decluttering… arg. We need it around here!
Sounds like you’ve got a good month ahead of you!

Decluttering is a great idea! There are a few places in my house that I know need to be organized. Congrats on your run streak!

I love the idea of a walk streak. I think I may try to do a lunchtime walk streak when the weather is nicer.
I did some decluttering over the weekend. i really don’t understand how I accumulate so much stuff! I’ll making a trip to Goodwill to soon.

I’m a fan of monthly goals – helps to keep me on track!
You’ve got some good ones – I really like the idea of daily push-ups and keeping up your walk streak!
Happy March Marcia!

I love decluttering, but I’ve hit a wall with that. Oops.
Daily walks are fantastic. And I’ve just gotten back to strength training, and it’s been brutal, but so good.
Debbie says
Not a fitness goal but I could really use some decluttering. I just need to get started because I’m good at it once I get going.

Decluttering is a great idea! I have been wondering what to do for Lent…and also thoroughly annoyed sometimes with how much stuff we have acquired (especially with a doted-upon toddler).
