We’re winding down the final week of our month-long Snow Bird extravaganza in Florida and it’s been a good one! While the Midwest was pummeled with snow and polar conditions, the universe smiled on us and Mom Nature blessed us with a long string of picture-perfect days in our winter abode. Now that it’s time to head back North, it looks like Chicago’s thawed out. Here’s how my week in workouts went.
Monday: Walk 4 miles, Run 3 miles
Tuesday: Walk 4 miles, Run 1 mile, Corework
Wednesday: Walk 4 miles, Run 3 miles, Bodyweight Exercises
Thursday: Walk 4 miles, Run 2 miles, Resistance Band Workout
Friday: Walk 4 miles, Run 3 miles, Bodyweight exercises + Mobility
Saturday: Walk 4 miles Run 2 miles, Resistance Band Workout
Sunday: Walk 4 miles, Run 1 mile, Balance + Mobility
The month-long run streak that I never intended to do is complete. I’m typically not a fan of run streaks but I have to say this one felt pretty great. Gotta take full advantage of ice-free pavement, am I right?
As you read this, we’re gearing up to head home. The Caveman suggested we stay another week, and I’d be all over it, alas the post office will not hold our mail past 30 days and Thing 2 has a milestone day coming up: She’s getting her braces off! I’d never make her reschedule that.
Thing 1 headed back to school in Atlanta. It was so good have her with us for two weeks. I’m not sure when we’ll see her again. Maybe we’ll head down to help her move out of her apartment at the end of the semester, but that’s all up in the air at this point.
We enjoyed two weekend junkets: Before dropping Thing 1 off at the airport in Tampa, we explored Anna Maria Island.
Another day we enjoyed lunch in downtown Winter Park and strolled the gorgeous campus of Rollins College, which sits on Lake Virginia. It won’t be long before we start the college visit process with Thing 2. Sigh.
Ozzy has been the very best boy here. I’ll bet he thinks he lives here now. I just hope he’s as good on the plane home as he was coming down here.
Overall our time here has been relaxing, restorative and amazing. I’m so grateful we were able to skip out and miss the very worst month of winter in Chicago!

Strong Arms & Abs Workout. These are two areas of the body many of us like to have looking good. Before anything else though, I like to have them strong because a strong body is more stable and less injury prone. Grab your hand weights and give this workout a try.
Watching. I’m still a bit incredulous the Caveman was willing to watch this but we’re quite enjoying Next In Fashion.
I’ve been taking daily sunset pics but I’ll leave you with this early morning moon set shot. The pic doesn’t even do it justice. It was amazing.
How was your week? Has winter released it’s icy grip on your area?
I’m linking up with Kim and Deborah for the Weekly Run Down. Join us!

Welcome to the real world. Wasn’t it nice to escape and run without layers?
I loved both Anna Maria and winter Park. Both are on my revisit list.
Here it is grey. Snowy or rainy or just grey. Sigh.
I’m heading to Naples on April 28.

I’m just so envious of your warm month in Florida! But then again, I would have missed all the snow! lol Have a safe trip back and maybe we can plan a socially distanced lunch?

Note to self: once the boys start college we need to start spending February in FL. As it is, we should be able to resume our “long weekend” trips in February next year.
We’ve had a few decent weather days and it makes a ton of difference. Going in I knew that this winter would be very hard, and now that it’s coming to an end I’m starting to realize how tough it was.

Ah, your time away sounds fantastic. I’d definitely take advantage of the weather and go running every day. Nice to have time with both girls too, and fantastic that Ozzie could come. Scooby isn’t so easy to fly with! I bet Thing 2 is so ready to get those braces off!

As I have said, you timed your Chicago departure with precision. I’m glad you were able to get away and avoid the February Freeze. Your sunset/sunrise pics have been amazing! I’m also glad to hear the run streak went so well, too! I was a huge skeptic of streaking until I gave it a go. I’d never do it year-round, but the little winter streak I do, every year, gets me through a tough season of (usual) cold weather and dark days. Safe travels!!

You really had perfect timing for your trip! Hopefully now when you get back it will start to feel like spring. All your sunset pics have been amazing, and that pic of the moon is incredible!

I am so glad that you got away for your month of relaxation. It makes all the difference right now and a great way to recharge. Even better that both kids got to come along. Way to go on that run streak too!

What a lovely month and good family time, too. We have gone a lot warmer here and have had a run of three blue sky days – amazing!

So glad you enjoyed your Florida getaway! I hope some of those warm temps will follow you home 🙂 Safe travels and fingers-crossed Ozzy has a good flight.

Ah, your Florida pictures are so pretty! You’ll miss it… but you’re heading up north at the perfect time. It’s going to get HOT here.
Congratulations on your run streak! That must feel good!

So glad that you had such a great month in Florida, and I love that you were able to explore a few different areas and do some sightseeing too.
Ozzy is such a cutie! I hope that he has a good plane ride back home 🙂
Chocolaterunsjudy says
I would never be able to get my husband to watch that!
Glad that everyone — humans & Ozzy — got to enjoy a break. Having the braces off is a huge deal!
Safe trip home, Marcia.

Such a lovely break for you!
We were planning to go to Anna Maria Island around this time, but things kind of took a turn and we decided to postpone. I’ve heard such great things about it, and I’m looking forward to it when we finally get there.
So happy that Thing #2 gets her braces off! We’ve been holding off on that for A (getting them on), but it’s time to get that consultation underway.
Safe travels home!
Jessie says
That pic is stunning!
Oh, Ozzy. He has the sweetest face 🙂
Ready for spring thaw up here in the north for sure! You’re heading back just in time for some great spring running!

I’m so glad you’ve had such a great ICE FREE time in Florida. Lots and lots of miles walking and running. super impressive! Hope you are settling back into “reality” again all right.
definitely ready for spring!
Zenaida Arroyo says
It’s been a month already, huh? It went by fast. The weather won’t be the same as in Florida but at least the snow or most of it will be gone. That is exciting about the braces!
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
What a wonderful getaway! I’ll need to plan something like that one of these days. We did have to delay my son getting his braces off because it was right around lockdown last year. Luckily we didn’t have to wait too long. That’s big day for sure!! Hope you have settled back into to “normal” life again 🙂
