I was tired by the time I hit Tuesday this week. The stress of my dad’s funeral last week caught up with me and I found myself sleeping later and later. All good. My workouts sort of happened on autopilot. I felt like a zombie on a couple of our morning walks. Here’s what went down:
Monday: Walk 4 miles, Track intervals
Tuesday: Walk 4 miles, Upper Body Strength + Yoga
Wednesday: Walk 4 miles, Trail Run 4 miles
Thursday: Walk 4 miles, otherwise rest
Friday: Walk 4 miles, Trail run 3 miles
Saturday: Walk 4 miles, Heavy Strength
Sunday: Breakfast meeting and hopefully a trail run later, we’ll see
The trails are spectacular right now, although I can do without hearing the gunshots of the hunters. Is it deer they’re hunting for? I suspect it is. Sigh.
We had some really frigid morning walks this week. Snow fell gently in the darkness on one of them. It was actually quite serene and lovely.
Ozzy got a new Camo parka for added warmth. So far he seems to like it.
This is a throwback pic from last year’s Halloween blizzard. Nothing of the sort here this year.
Halloween was low key…and a gorgeous, sunny, mild day. Perfect for trick or treating. We did get one very young trick or treater out with her parents, and yes, I did open the door. I didn’t buy much candy but I’m glad I had some for her. My neighbors totally outdid themselves though. Elaborate tables with socially distanced candy bundles, giant, candy-filled cauldrons…I was totally put to shame by their displays, but I doubt they got any more than the one trick or treater I did, so there’s that.
The Week Ahead
Election Day. I’m anxious about the Election Day fallout. However the vote goes, I feel like it’s going to be ugly. Chicago is bracing for the potential violence. I’m so sick of living this way.
High School Concert. Thing 2 has her first Chamber Music Concert via Zoom this week. Her music has taken a massive hit with the pandemic, so I’m happy to at least have this to enjoy. Upon her suggestion the performance will include Dance of the Reed Pipes. It’s been fun hearing her practice that one.
How was your week? Goals for November? How was your Halloween?
I’m linking up with Kim and Deborah for the Weekly Run Down. Join us!

I’m hoping that more light in the morning will get me out to run.
Halloween was low key.
The excitement was my mil in the hospital. She has pneumonia but is recovering.
My Nov. goal is stay active with no major injuries. Still have foot pain but not much I can do about it.
Yes. I’m nervous about Nov 3 too.

Grief is exhausting. I think you know it’s OK to give into it and take the rest your body is demanding. ((Hugs)) Our neighborhood did the same thing with trick-or-treating — we put out a platter of candy at the end of our driveway — I have so much Halloween stuff, I’m glad to have a reason to use it. We actually got more kids than usual, but I didn’t see them because they didn’t ring the doorbell (of course) — my husband saw them when he was walking Scooby.
I’ve been saying for a while that I will be praying hard for a peaceful transfer of power. When I started, the “peaceful” part was sort of a joke. I’ve got a hotline shift Tuesday morning. I hope it’s mostly people looking for their polling place, but we’ve got instructions on what to do if people report intimidation or worse.

I still remember how tired I was the day after my FIL’s passing and funeral last spring. It was just such a draining experience. Halloween was a lot of fun. We did a candy shute. A lot of people set out candy or passed it out from the ends of their driveways. There were a decent amount of people out although this was the first year that we didn’t run out of candy.

I’m glad you’ve been able to rest.
Here for Halloween we were encouraged to make a pumpkin trail for local kids and there was lots of inventiveness and creativity. I made some card ones for the window and no one knocked once I’d made a sign not to!

Hitting the snooze sounds wonderful. I’m glad you’ve been able to sleep. Sleep is still a challenge for me. Sigh!
We had a couple of trick or treaters at the lake, and yes I answered the door. We came prepared just in case. I’m glad I wasn’t home–apparently there were a ton this year and I only bought one bag of chocolates, which we’ve been working on, lol!
Matthew is working the polls in Madison on Tuesday, so as you can imagine, I’m nervous. Seriously, when is this all going to get better?
Deborah Brooks says
Grief is really exhausting and kind of hits you at odd times. A little more sleep never hurt anyone and sounds like you needed it too. Yeah who knows what is going to happen in downtown DC this week. I won’t be going downtown anytime soon.

I’m nervous about Tuesday. How sad that cities are preparing for violence, but who knows these days. I really hope it’s a landslide and there’s no contesting it, but I’m doubtful.
Anyways, beautiful photo from the sunrise on the trail. Hopefully now we’ll have some more sunrises for a bit with daylight savings time! Love Ozzy’s new jacket, too cute.

I really like that camo parka – such a stylish dog! I put candy out in a bowl outside of my house for trick or treaters, but I still had a lot of candy leftover so I don’t think many kids were out. I am actually happy that most people decided to stay home.
I don’t think we’ll actually have an outcome on Election Day, which is giving me a lot of anxiety. However, I am prepared with liquor to either celebrate or rage drink whenever the results are announced.

We put out a table with bags of candy and had a bunch of trick or treaters. We have lots of kids in our neighborhood and we have a facebook group and all agreed to try to do a safe halloween. We must have had about 100 trick or treaters because thats how many bags were gone (we had made about 300). I’m getting nervous for election day too!

Unfortunately obviously my Halloween was not good at all. Good thing I’m not fond of the “holiday”. There were trick or treaters as we drove to the vet, so we had to be careful, no idea if they stopped at the house. I doubt it. Hope not for Bandit’s sake.
It was a beautiful day here, though, too, and that was something good.
You’re keeping up with workouts great!

A few of my friends were just discussing the “fallout” that’s bound to happen come Wednesday (though we won’t have any definitive answers immediately). I agree, it’s going to be ugly, regardless of who wins. I’d like all of this bitterness and hate to end as well. Such a bummer on your daughter’s music getting the raw end of the deal during this crazy time.

Same same re: the fear of this week. I hate seeing things being boarded up, I hate that it might be necessary. Glad you’re able to rest as needed.
xx

I’m glad you were able to get some sleep.
One of my neighbors with young kids planned a Halloween parade, so we got to cheer the kids and avoid trick or treating.
My anxiety as we approach Tuesday is growing steadily – I’m exhausted.
Zenaida Arroyo says
I had not heard anything about Tuesday (violence) but am not surprised. There is a mini mall where I sometimes run by and a few days ago I noticed some of the windows boarded up. Now it makes sense.
I remember the snow from last year. Unbelievable!
Jenn says
For once, I’m kind of glad to live in a quiet rural area. I know there will be so much fallout, but 70% of our county’s registered voters have already cast their ballots early or in absentee form, so election day SHOULD be fairly quiet. Please stay safe.
The snooze button is my favorite button. I am all about pushing back that wakeup time.
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
A lot of my neighbors had tables too, but I was totally unprepared and just had kids take the candy out of the bowl without me touching it. The weather was perfect though. My son just started after school jazz band and some sort of advanced concert band, so that was a high point of school thus far. Bummer so many schools are unable to get the performances and practices for band.
Fingers crossed and hoping for the best on Tuesday for sure!
