We’re winding down a long Thanksgiving weekend. While 2020 is the year that keeps on giving, can you believe we’re just about to the final month of it?? Here’s how the week in workouts went. More of the usual, and my Garmin let me know about it, by giving me a “maintenance mode” status. Apparently if I want to make running gains, I need to increase my distance or pace. Pffft.
Monday: Walk 4 miles, Trail Run 4 miles + Mobility
Tuesday: Walk 4 miles, Plyo Strength intervals
Wednesday: Walk 4 miles, otherwise rest
Thursday: Walk 4 miles, Trail Run Turkey Trot 5k
Friday: Walk 4 miles, Upper Body Strength + Core
Saturday: Walk 4 miles, Track intervals
Sunday: Walk 4 miles, Heavy Strength
I almost missed track day because there was one man running there when I arrived and I didn’t feel safe so I cruised on by. Don’t worry though, the speedwork streak lives.
Special thanks to Kim for putting together this super-creative collage of our online “flock”. I’m so grateful for all of you and I couldn’t love this more.
Thanksgiving
Our little Thanksgiving was nice with just the four of us. I tried to make it as special as possible. It was nice to gather in the dining room at a festively-set table and enjoy each other’s company vs sit in front of the TV like we usually do. I also took the liberty of not making some of the dishes that extended family demands, but we don’t really care for. Thing 1 requested Southern mac n cheese, which I was happy to make, but I runfess it didn’t turn out as creamy or flavorful as we’d hoped. Sigh.
The Oreo Cheesecake was amazing. Most amazing though is that I delegated it to Thing 2 and she made it. Could there be another cook in the house? I hope so!
This is not the kitchen we’re going with. I have no idea at this point what we’re doing.
The big news is that the Caveman finally FINALLY agreed on a kitchen remodel. Two years ago we’d basically finished redoing the entire rest of the house but the kitchen had been his holdout. We started the process by visiting a kitchen showroom. Apparently the first step is deciding on appliances so we can work around their dimensions. Deep breaths, here goes nothing…

I am so thankful that my Garmin doesn’t have the training status feature…the closest it has is the recovery advisor that told me that I needed to take 3 days off after each run, so I turned that sucker off pretty quickly.
I love it when the kids cook! Every once in a while my husband will have the boys make grilled cheese for dinner and my youngest stepson will occasionally make brownies for us. That oreo cheesecake tho.
A kitchen reno is on our list. Not that our 1960’s kitchen isn’t perfectly lovely but it is really, really time to move on. All that we need is the motivation to get started….

I lived through (and our marriage survived) a major kitchen remodel in our previous house. Thankfully, this house’s kitchen had already been remodeled (with more modern nuances) just prior to our moving in…so although we’ve been intermittently replacing some appliances, nothing major has needed to happen. The rest of the house, however, was another story LOL

One of my pandemic hobbies has been collecting “pandemic silver linings”, of which there are more than you might think… and I think you found another one: not having to make the Thanksgiving dishes that extended family demands, but that you don’t like. That’s a good one!
If my Garmin were nagging me like yours is, I’d have figured out some way to turn off that “feature” (if possible)… lol. Ain’t nobody got time for a stupid inanimate watch nagging you! So judgey of it!! 🙂

Thankful that our kitchen only needs little updates, no major remodel. We did that when Matthew was born and ugh. However, we still have our share of projects including refinishing the wood floors. Mike is really dragging his feet on it–I think we will have to wait until spring now. At least we have our new roof! Baby steps. Good luck. I’m sure you’ll do something amazing!

I haven’t done a kitchen remodel but we did have our house built and it was so hard picking out everything. Now I have so many things I would do differently if I were doing it all over. I think it would be so stressful to remodel while living there!
Great job this week! Don’t worry about what your Garmin says. Those watches don’t know what they’re talking about:)

Oh man, a kitchen remodel is exciting, but a lot…we redid ours in 2016 and had to cook in a makeshift kitchen in the basement for several months, including Christmas 🙂 Memorable, that’s for sure! Good luck though, it’s worth it. Everyone spends so much time in the kitchen, particularly with guests (when guests are back- we haven’t had guests in a long time!)
That Oreo cheesecake looks really good and the idea of mac-n-cheese for Thanksgiving is a tradition I wish was part of my menu!!

The Oreo Cheesecake looks delicious! Your daughter did an amazing job.
Excited to follow your kitchen remodel journey – how exciting, and always fun to get new appliances!

My kitchen is so old and I know the owner will remodel the whole apartment when I move. We have one of those ironing boards attached to the wall.
This week was nice because I worked 2 days. I enjoyed my time off. Now 3 more weeks till Winter Break.

The kitchen here was definitely not one that someone really cooked in, so after Mr. Judy tore up the godawful carpeting and had laminate put in upstairs, that was the first thing we did.
We had walls knocked out, double sided cabinets/counters installed, and some space was borrowed from the front hall closet for the super tiny pantry. The workflow is still not great but so much better than when we moved in. Actually done by my neighbor’s son, although at the time we didn’t know her.
Good luck! As you know, it always takes longer (and often costs more) than predicted.
That cheesecake looks amazing. I made a simple apple crisp that Mr. Judy hasn’t been turning down when I offer it, and on the actual Thanksgiving we had store bought cupcakes that were amazing (at least mine was).

Good luck with the kitchen! We had ours done when we moved here and it’s still holding together 15 years later. It was a bit dodgy as they used our measurements and the kitchen was bigger than the room – but we sorted it out!

I’m happy with my current fitness level, so I’m not bothered by my “maintaining” status, but it is annoying if it tells me a run was “unproductive” — maybe according to its metrics, but usually there’s always some benefit to a run. 😉
Interesting on the kitchen remodel. Maybe because I knew I didn’t want fancy appliances and we were mostly using the same spaces for them we didn’t start with that decision, but we did have to take out a wall and rearranged other space.

well the kitchen remodel is fun and exciting and also something good to look forward to! I agree there are definitely positives to a low key Thanksgiving. Way less dishes to do! Maybe being in maintenance mode is not so bad? I feel like there is so much pressure to keep building miles. That is when I tend to get hurt.Have a great week! Enjoy your kiddos home

It doesn’t seem by your runs and workouts that you are maintenance.
Our thanksgiving was just two of us. We did Italian and had amazing cannoli for dessert.
I’ve been whining for years for a new kitchen. We still have formica counter tops, wallpaper and linoleum floor.
This summer for sure since not sure I want strangers in the house during COVID and in the summer we can barbecue outside or eat out.
I’ll be very interested in following your re-make journey.

Yay for the kitchen remodel! I think we are getting ours done in February or March and I cannot wait. Having the house redone has been so good for my emotional wellbeing, and once the kitchen is complete, I will probably never want to leave my house again LOL!
I love having everyone able and willing to cook. A made our pumpkin and apple pies, as well as a mac and cheese. Tomorrow, his cooking club is making a roll cake. I’ve never made one before, so I am pretty excited to see how this turns out. Keep your fingers crossed for us.

Sounds like a lovely holiday. My marriage has survived three moves in 6 years and two kitchen renos (including one when I was 6 months pregnant with Nugget #2. We bought a new construction with the latest move, so hoping we can avoid the reno for a few years. (Though I really wish the builder hadn’t chosen white cabinets. So hard to keep clean!) Good luck with your reno!

A kitchen remodel is so exciting! I hope it’s a smooth and speedy process. We recently swapped out a bathroom countertop (put in a granite one) and our home DIY project has taken weeks now. Ugh. Dragging on for no reason other than lack of motivation.

Glad you had a nice Thanksgiving – that cheesecake your daughter made looks so good!
I’m going to live vicariously through you on the kitchen remodel. I’ve have been working on my husband for years to give our dated kitchen a much-needed facelift – so far no luck. Sigh…enjoy the process!

We redid our small kitchen this summer, going all the way down to the studs. Well, we had it done. It was literally decades overdue. I worked from home through all of it, and our house is very small. The whole concept was overwhelming to me (did you know that kitchen showrooms have about 2 million different door handles or drawer pulls? That one cabinet manufacturer has 77 different styles?) that I told the kitchen designer my ideas and what I had in mind, and she narrowed the choices down to 2 or 3 for each thing for us to choose from. We went with her suggestions on pretty much everything, and we couldn’t be happier. We also had all of the original hardwood floors refinished in the middle of it, so we had to move everything out of the house (including ourselves). I think that was the worst of it, other than the day the electricians were here singing along to their radio all day.
