It was another dumpster fire kind of week here but what else is new? My dad is back in the hospital and I’m still a little nauseous from the presidential debates but life goes on. The heat is on here, although let the record show, I was not the one to turn it on. With temps in the 30s though, it’s the right call. Fall is most definitely here.
Thank goodness we have running. Here’s how my workouts went this week:
Monday: Walk 4 miles, Track repeats
Tuesday: Walk 4 miles, otherwise rest
Wednesday: Walk 4 miles, Trail run 4 miles
Thursday: Walk 4 miles, Full-Body Strength
Friday: Walk 4 miles, Trail run 5 miles
Saturday: Walk 4 miles, Heavy Strength
Sunday: Walk 4 miles Trail Run 6 miles
The track is the perfect place to unleash my angst, even under threatening skies. Every fiber of my being is better suited toward sprinting vs running marathons. Sure I ran marathons, and I ran them well, but stamina doesn’t come nearly as naturally to me as running fast does. The middle school will be reopening to a hybrid plan later this month and I sure hope they won’t close the track when it does. We’ve got a little track streak going on.
Plenty of trail time was my solace. Nature and crisp autumn air are so soothing.
A neighbor’s pitbull broke THROUGH my mom’s backyard fence and attacked her pup. Her pup, and my brother who broke up the fight, are scratched up but okay. I love dogs probably more than the average bear, but I disagree with her decision not to report the incident. She insists the police “won’t do anything” and she doesn’t want to offend her neighbor. In the meantime there’s a vicious dog in the neighborhood and next time the incident may not be minor (if a pitbull attack is ever minor) and could involve a child. Sigh.

How was your week? Would you report a pitbull attack? Seeing/hearing any signs of the holidays?

Last Friday on the bike path, a dog walker had his dog on a long leash. The dog had a big stick in his mouth and as I ran by, I commented on it. The dog lunged at me, full on teeth showing and growling. Scared the beejesus out of me! Glad i didn’t get bit.
Sorry to hear about your dad! What a roller coaster. 2020 needs to just end so we can get a fresh start. Hopefully with a new potus. And yeah, I’m not worried about offending anyone anymore…

Ah that’s the nice thing about having an in house musician, you always get a preview of the holidays. I’m glad that you have your track days to speed through the crazy.

A week of ups and downs, I hope exercise helped! I will always be a stamina girl not a fast girl, although really I’m not great at anything. However, it does keep me sane, which is all one needs, really!
And for the record, I was also not the one to put the heating on!!!

Ozzy is just so darn cute!
That’s so scary about your mom’s dog! I am happy that the injuries weren’t more severe but the fact that the neighbor’s dog broke through your mom’s fence is super troubling. Calling the dog aggressive might even be an understatement!
So sorry to hear about your dad being back in the hospital. 2020 continues to be do incredibly difficult.

I am starting to see some holiday decor going up mostly Halloween. I think I have finally come up w a good plan for Thanksgiving fingers crossed. Hope you had a fantastic visit w your daughter. Miss my guy but T-day will be here before I know it!

Uggggh! I am so sorry about your dad.
I would report absolutely any kind of a dog attack. Most of the time, police won’t do anything for dog-on-dog attacks (which is BS, in my opinion), but I would want it on the record.
I’m so glad everyone is ok.
Coco says
Sorry to hear about your Dad. Hope he is doing OK. If a dog broke into my yard I think I’d report it — if I wasn’t too stunned to think to do it. That’s a certain kind of aggression that needs attention. Most of our schools let the public use the track outside of school hours (even now) — I hope yours stays accessible.
Michelle D. says
I think I would have to report that pitbull – as Coco noted, that level of aggression needs to be addressed!
I’m so sorry your Dad is back in the hospital. I can imagine how stressful that situation is. I hope he’s doing ok.
Enjoy every moment of your daughter’s visit home!

Ugh on that neighbor’s dog. Did the owner say or do anything?
I was too tired to watch the debate. It looks like I made the right decision.
I also turned on the heat and it nice and cozy inside the apartment.

Oh my goodness Marcia, that is so scary about your mom’s dog! That poor little thing…She really needs to report it. Wow….I love dogs more than the average bear as well. There are no bad dogs only bad owners. Which is concerning that the owner doesn’t feel so awful….Ugh what a week. Glad you got some reprieve with running and fitness.
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
Oh wow, I think I would have reported the incident! That’s scary and could have been much worse! I’m sorry your dad is back in the hospital. Hope your track stays open and you can continue to get your speedwork done.

Oh Marcia, I’m so sorry to hear about your father. I’m also sorry to hear about your mother’s dog and your brother. A neighbor’s New Foundland came after Max (a couple different times) when I was walking him around the block. Neither time was the dog on a leash, and both times it came across the street at us. I reported the neighbor (and dog) both times, and felt zero guilt in doing so. I don’t know if the police gave my name, but the old gal had to have known it was me LOL

I have never seen Christmas this early, but it’s happening here too.

It definitely sounds like a difficult week. I’m so sorry about your dad.
I don’t know what I’d do about the pitbull. It’s a hard one. I do think the police would do something about it. Mr. Judy once reported a neighbor who let her dog run free, often into our yard (before we had dogs), and she got all up in my face about it. And you know how much I love dogs, too, but maybe impress upon her her dog could’ve been killed & your brother could’ve been really hurt.
Fingers crossed you can keep your track streak alive. I am built more for stamina than speed, but I feel like I have neither!
Laurie says
So sorry to read about your dad. Sending virtual hugs to yoiu and your family.
I think everyone was a little nauseous from the presidential debates. What a spectacle. Ugh!
After being attacked by a dog (who was on a leash at the time!) while on a run, I agree with you. Your mom should definitely report the incident, just to have it on record in case the dog is a serial attacker.
Denise says
Sorry about the dog attack. I guess it would depend on the dogs history. If he has done that before then for sure I would report it but if it was out of character then I don’t know. I’m pretty protective of my dogs so my initial reaction would be to report it.
Thelma says
Sorry about your dad :(. I hope he gets better soon!! I’ve been thinking about you and miss you. I am not coming back to Iowa, unfortunately. With the rising Covid cases I didn’t want to get stranded out there alone and unable to get home if I were to get sick. So another trip bites the dust. It’s been super hot, extremely dry and fires galore filing our state this year. Gah. I want a girls’ weekend away with my BRF! xo
