Hello and happy October! October is hands down my favorite month of the year so I intend to make the most of it. Let’s sit down and catch up over coffee. I’m joining Coco and Deborah for the Ultimate Coffee Date. I’m going with some Bullet Proof coffee with Pumpkin Spice Nut Pods creamer and of course collagen.
Over coffee I’d give you an update on my hygge project. I’ve been obsessing over fall decor channels on Insta and YouTube for design inspiration. The verdict though is that, while white-on-white-on-white farmhouse style is all the rage, our home resembles nothing even close to a farmhouse and, other than a white pumpkin here and there, I’m not embracing a white-on-white color scheme either.
I dipped my proverbial toe in the design waters with this tray. While the design gurus on social media recommend hitting up the dollar store, I snagged this tray at Marshalls. The temporary “finished” product is shown in the title pic above. I say temporary because I’m not 100% satisfied with it. Apparently I can run a marathon with more confidence than I can style a tray.
Over coffee I’d tell you Thing 1 is coming home from school for a visit this weekend. Because she’s mostly learning remotely, it’s easier for her to pull away. I can’t wait to see her, especially since there’s no parents’ weekend this year. Whoop whoop! For the record, she’s tested negative for Covid 12+x and, knock wood, is still hanging tough.

Over coffee I’d tell you I’m usually the first one in line when there’s an adventure to be had, but recently the Caveman came up with an adventure that, quite frankly scares the shizz out of me. He wants us to all go climb Half Dome at Yosemite. My first instinct is to say no way are the kids going to do this with us. Weather changes on a dime up there and when the rocks get slick, or there are lightning strikes hitting the cables, it is not unusual for people to plunge to their deaths. I’ve done research and seen kids far younger than ours climb it successfully, but still, I’d be a nervous wreck. The jury is very much out on this one.
Over coffee I’d tell you my ZOOMA Back to School Challenge ended on September 30 and it was another good one. It’s so gratifying to see women who’d gotten into a rut with their fitness or fallen off track completely get moving again and crush their goals. Many of them who hadn’t been doing crosstraining learned very quickly how beneficial it is to running. Next up is the ZOOMA Holiday Challenge, which I am prepping for now.
What would you tell me over coffee? Would you climb Half Dome? With kids?
Beckett @ Birchwood Pie says
No no no…”it is not unusual for people to fall to their deaths”…hard pass. Our home decor style is “the kids are older so you probably don’t have to worry about stepping on legos anymore”. Have fun with Thing 1 this weekend.

Nope, I would definitely pass on the climb! That stuff freaks me out. So glad your daughter can come home! Do they require her to get tested so much for school?
Wendy says
OH boy! And here I am over here trying to get Mike to climb Gibraltar Rock in Lodi with me..lol… I love an adventure but I’d take a pass on that one. Not the climb so much but getting there and staying there and the whole camp thing…
Darlene S. Cardillo says
Yes yes. Bring me.
Enjoy your visit with your daughter.

Congratulations on your success with the ZOOMA Back to School Challenge! That must be so gratifying to help others to get back into a fitness routine.
Lovely that Thing 1 will be with you for the holidays. Am I understanding this correctly, she has been tested 12 times for Covid?
Looks like October is going to be a great month for you! Enjoy!!

Ooh that climb sounds scary and exciting. Looking forward to hearing what you decide to do. I guess your hubs arm is feeling better? I try to do those fun fall decor things and mine never look like they are supposed to. I am working on some fun things now too but not sure if they will turn out. Enjoy your visit w your daughter!

Umm “people plug to their deaths…” – yeah, gonna say a hard no to that one!
I’m planning on diving into the fall decor this weekend – there will be no white on white here either.
How fun that your daughter is coming home for a visit! Enjoy your time with her!!

I like to look at Half Dome, but I’ll pass on climbing it! I’ve always been curious about trying indoor rock climbing, but never have & most likely wouldn’t like it. But you don’t know til you try, right?
That’s awesome your daughter is coming home — and that she’s tested negative! What a world when we have to think about that.
I don’t even want carpet in my house due to the animals — but now Lola really needs that soft landing — we don’t have carpet upstairs, though. We just need #allthethrowrugs.

I’m with you on the climbing adventure. No way would I climb the Half Dome ro wartch my kids climb it! When it comes to heights, I’m a big chicken. Hope you have a great weekend with your daughter.

So happy that your daughter is coming home for a visit!
That climbing adventure looks cool but I don’t know if I could do it either. I have a small fear of heights so I would be afraid of freaking out!
Coco says
I love the look of your decor, and of course love the D.C. Starbucks mug. OMG on the rock climb. Would you train for it? (Rock climbing gym?) Have a guide? I’d be scared of plunging to my death myself.

I climbed Half Dome last fall! It’s definitely a beautiful hike (also a long one) and I did see a good number of kids on it. I had food poisoning the week before and was apparently still pretty electrolyte-depleted + wasn’t drinking enough water so I fell while I was nearly at the top of the cables portion so that was not the most fun. You’ll need to win a lottery to get the permit to use the cables though, but even if not, the Mist Trail itself is gorgeous and there are lots of other pretty hikes there!

Hmmm, I’d be “up” for the challenge of that climb 😉 The hubby? Not so much…he’s afraid of heights, which is why I did all the painting (and cutting-in) atop an extended ladder in our vaulted living room. The trick is to not look down 😉 Enjoy your Thing 1 time!!!
Liz Dexter says
No to the dome. No thank you. No. No dome. Enjoy the time with your offspring NOT climbing domes, though!
San says
I’d love to climb Half Dome someday, but yeah, I’d be wary to take kids along.
