Well hello September. Fancy seeing you here so soon. 2020 is a weird year but time marches on. Here in Chicago, this summer is officially the hottest one on record. While we didn’t have days in the 100’s, the string of humid, 90+ days was relentless. That said, we’ve enjoyed a most welcome cool down lately. The humidity is gone and the nights are deliciously chilly. Before I go on, here’s how the week in workouts went.
Monday: Walk 4 miles, Speed ladder on the track 200-400-800-400-200
Tuesday: Walk 4 miles, Upper Body Strength + Hip mobility/Flexibility
Wednesday: Walk 4 miles, Lower Body Strength + shot Core Ladder Video
Thursday: Walk 4 miles, Trail run 4 miles
Friday: Walk 4 miles, Rest
Saturday: Walk 4 miles, Trail run 5 miles
Sunday: Walk 2 miles and Heavy Strength
While Mondays have historically been a rest day for me, for the past few weeks I’ve been heading to the track. I think the absence of a weekend long run, coupled with the stress related to my dad, fuels that desire.
The trails are really stunning at this time of year. Having the sun at a lower angle in the sky gives things a golden quality.
Blame the heat, dry conditions, high winds etc., but lots of leaves have already fallen here.
Both of our kids have completed 3 weeks of school already. This week was a virtual high school open house via Zoom where we had the chance to meet all of Thing 2’s teachers. As always, they are a very impressive bunch and all of them are slam dunking the online learning process so far, which I’m sure is no easy task.
The Week Ahead
Thing 2 starts Volleyball. Yes, it’s a risk to have her doing sports, but the social toll the pandemic has taken on kids has been brutal.
My mom turns 80. I’ll be having a socially distanced outdoor party in her honor. Although we talk on the phone every week, I runfess I can’t remember the last time I actually saw her in person. Probably not at all yet this year. Ugh.

Abs and Core Strength Ladder Workout. It was a ladder kind of week, what can I say? First a track ladder and now this one. Try it and let me know what you think.
How was your week? Do you enjoy ladder workouts? Did you have fun Labor Day weekend plans?

I agree w you on the social toll this whole thing has taken on the kids. That is the main reason why we sent our son back to school even though mostly everything will be on line.I have not done a core ladder workout have to check yours out. Have a great week ahead and happy birthday to your mom

I do enjoy ladder workouts! So glad school is starting off well. Teachers really are amazing! Your trail runs really are lovely. We had a record warm summer too, which is no surprise since you usually send your weather our way. 😉

My friend who is a teaching assistant is SO much happier now she’s back in school working, it’s so lovely to see. And no ladders here …

I’m glad school is going well so far. Hopefully volleyball can continue! Of all the sports, it seems a little lower risk, right? What a year…

We did our fun stuff yesterday. The joys of “working from home”. Otherwise low key.
The same is true of senior citizens — they are playing bridge at my mom’s again. I’m not super wild about the idea, but they need that social interaction too. You just have to pray & have faith.

Happy early birthday to your mom!
Although I want everyone to stay safe, I understand the need for kids to be social. I can’t imagine the toll that all of this has taken on kids mentally. I’m sure that there will be a ton of precautions for the sports so that the kids can stay as safe as possible. Plus it will feel good for them to do something that feels “normal” again.

Happy Bday to your mom! We’re spending a few hours with the sis-in-laws…and we can’t remember the last in-person visit we’ve with either of them. Thankfully for weekly Zooming. Glad you’re enjoying the fall temps!

Speed workouts are very satisfying, aren’t they? And hey, so is running in cool temps. I’m sure that volleyball will be fine and a lot of fun. Happy b-day to your mom!

You are killing those workout videos! SJ has been having me do ladders and I really like them a lot.
I’m glad remote learning is going well for the girls. Fingers crossed they stay safe! Your mom too.

I’m not sure if yours was the same, but our kid’s virtual open house was recorded videos from the teachers. I think that is a great idea because we actually get to see all of the teachers! In the past, we would just slip by the teacher who had a ton of people waiting at the open house, or just skip teachers for no reason. It’s been good to see them all. I hope school continues to be good for your family!

It’s so hard to balance staying safe and meeting the needs of kids. Hopefully playing sports will help her feel like things are a little more normal! Hope you have a good bday celebration for your mom.

Glad to know school is going well for your kids! It isn’t easy but we’re doing the best we can.
That is exciting about your mom! My mother’s birthday is on Wednesday and unfortunately we won’t be doing anything “big” for her like in previous years.
I will be working on a few things for my students. Not fun but it has to be done. I need to get these kids on a routine so hopefully things will be smoother.

Happy bday to your mom and *Hugs* on the stress. I owe you a text or three.
Glad volleyball can go on. The move to the physical distancing nomenclature here is necessary. Social distancing is heartbreaking. xx

The kids, although so resilient through it all, have really been hit hardest by this year. Luckily, we’ve taken the kids back for tennis lessons which they’ve been really excited about. Wishing you a fun and beautiful celebration for your mum’s 80th!

I know what you mean about the toll on the kids – I’m really looking forward to my son starting school this week.
Happy birthday to your mom! We celebrated my dad’s 80th yesterday – it was so nice to actually see everyone in person!
Love a good ladder workout – I will be sure to check out your new video.

I love that you are getting out to the track. And that golden light is gorgeous.
I have seen my parents, but only outside and my mom is super edgy about everything. Which I mostly understand, but it’s hard.
Volleyball sounds fun. We have been back at activities, but they are things like Scouts and karate, so it’s a little more spaced out. Something has to give at some point 🙁
