It’s kind of crazy how Mom Nature flipped the switch here this week. We went from a record-hot, dry summer to sweater weather with #alltherain. I’m not complaining, because we sure needed the rain, but I wish I could share it with our friends out West who are dealing with those terrifying fires. Here’s how the week in workouts went:
Monday: Walk 4 miles, Speedwork on the track
Tuesday: No walks, so much rain, Rest Day
Wednesday: Trail Run 4 miles
Thursday: Upper Body Strength + Mobility
Friday: Walk 2 miles, Heavy Strength
Saturday: Rest Day, my mom’s birthday party
Sunday: Walk 4 miles, Trail Run 6 miles
Notice some of our walks were thwarted by the persistent rain. Oh well.
This may have been the last time we saw the sun this week.
On the running front, my Monday morning track sessions are becoming a thing. Garmin likes them and has already rewarded me with an increased VO2max. I’ll take it!
Even with almost 3″ of rain this week, my trails continue to be flood-free and runnable. That’s how dry it’s been.
Could not resist this Happy Fall art in honor of our “Southern Belle” at Georgia Tech.
The chill in the air gave me the urge to embrace some fall decor. While I’m not ready to let Halloween into the building just yet, a little fall style is fun.
Congrats to everyone who ran the Boston Marathon virtually. I feel super bad for my friend S who raised 10 grand to run on a charity team but was deprived of the chance to run on the actual Boston course. It would’ve been her 6th and final World Marathon Majors star, except virtual majors don’t count toward stars. So she’d have to fundraise all freaking over again to get another shot at the Boston racecourse. She’s resigned herself to never finishing her 6 star quest. I’m so sad for her. Very raw deal if you ask me.
Speaking of virtual races, I signed on to run ZOOMA’s Cape to Coast Challenge. I don’t run a lot of virtual races, but when I do, I make sure the swag is top notch. Mostly since it’s cooling off and we all know how great running is when it’s cool, I wanted something to inspire me to ramp up my miles a bit. So I’ll be running ZOOMA Cape Cod this month and ZOOMA Amelia Island in October. ZOOMA Amelia Island was going to be our annual girls’ running weekend before COVID got in the way. Sigh.

Upper & Lower Body Heavy Strength. Grab your heavy dumbbells and join me for this one!
How was your week? Has it cooled off where you are? Do you decorate for fall? Is it too early for Halloween stuff?
I’m linking up with Kim and Deborah for the Weekly Run Down. Join us!

COVID messed with a lot WMM chasers. It’s so sad.
That ZOOMA swag is amazing!

We didn’t get quite as much rain, thankfully. That’s amazing that your trails aren’t a muddy mess, but glad for you!
No Halloween decorations yet, but yup, saw several Fall Harvest type decorations on my run this morning.
Hope you have a dryer week next week!

Oh man, that does really suck for your friend. I’ve thought about going the charity route when I got cut from getting in Boston, but that fund raising level shut that idea down quick. That’s some serious cash your friend raised! We had several local runners doing their virtual Boston races today. I cheered them at the finish line!
Kimberly Hatting says
That’s a total bummer on your friend’s Boston experience. Total buzzkill. Agreed on the rain…we definitely needed it, but an entire week of it was overkill. At least it wasn’t a super heavy rain (on any of the days) or else we would have had major flooding to contend with (like the derecho wasn’t bad enough). I guess Momma N cut us a tiny bit of slack with that. I used to decorate for all the seasons, but in recent years I don’t do much other than Christmas.
Deborah Brooks says
we also had ridiculous amounts of rain and flooding here. I am seeing signs of fall but it’s still warm. I am all about the fall decor and that’s going to be mu project for the next 2 weeks. Way to get those runs in despite the weather; You look happy 🙂

I do hope that Boston will reconsider their stance on that. I can understand not counting a virtual race for the six star, but I wish they could count her fundraising for this year to count for next year’s in-person race. Raising $10K is no easy task!
I love the Fall art that you picked up. I need to check Target for some Fall items to add to my workspace to liven it up a bit.

Seeing you on the track reminds me that I should start doing that too once I’m back into running regularly again. I live right next to one so there’s no excuse!
So nice you could celebrate your mum‘s birthday together! I bet she was happy to see you. This pandemic thing has really been hard for the elderly.

We’ve had so much rain — I think August was 8” over average and we got torrential rains on Thursday that caused a lot of flash flooding. I did have to wear a light sweater for church outside this morning!
Once thing I miss running with Scooby is track workouts. Yay on the higher VO2MAX!
Beckett @ Birchwood Pie says
Nice swag! The swag bag for my next half came this week and I’m not going to open it until I run the race, so I’m pretty excited to get to peek into the box.
Michelle D. says
Oh man I feel for your friend and the whole Boston situation. I was surprised to see that charity runners were not cut any slack on their fundraising. Kudos to her for raising $10K especially in these difficult times!
How nice to get some time on a track! The gates around our local track remain locked and I’ve heard they may not open at all for the rest of the year.
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
That’s really too bad for your friend. So frustrating!! It seemed like many people were able to make the most of running Boston virtually. We still had some humidity this week but its finally starting to get a little cooler.
CAri says
I’m with you on fall but no Halloween yet. We need the rain so I can’t complain, but I’m loving the fall temps
Also doing Amelia Island. Let’s have some fun virtual mishief with high fives or something!
Renée @runlaugheatpie says
we really needed rain too! but after coming back from Sicily it was NOT WELCOME in my world! This week it’s supposed to be blazing again. Welcome to the Netherlands. Don’t like the weather? Wait 5 min.
I was going to do a Fitness Blender kettlebell workout after work but I think I’ll check your video instead!
Zenaida Arroyo says
I love that backpack and the coffee mug!! Is it something anyone can buy?
Ugh, that sucks for your friend. I hope the BAA would let her sign up without having to raise money again. She met the goal and raising $10K is not easy. Why is the amount so high to run the Boston Marathon? I am all for raising money for charities but I find that amount to be ridiculous.
Jessie says
I had meant to research whether the virtual races would count towards a star. Tough tough tough, especially when she raised SO much money. Argh. What a bummer.
Katie says
I did your heavy strength workout this morning. Hurts so good!! I love all your dumbbell workouts in particular… the combination and variety of moves are new and different.
Jenn says
Great week!
I am starting to decorate for fall and Halloween. Usually I wait until October 1, but I think I need to start now.
It’s been storming and awful nonstop here, but no chill in the air. I would adore some cooler temperatures.
Liz Dexter says
I’ve resigned myself to never getting to do London now. It’s OK, I can deal with it, but I had to have a think about it. I’m enjoying just running although I did a virtual marathon over the past week and have a marathon to do in October plus a free for all fundraiser with a medal and buff for doing whatever distance you choose the last week of September.
Shathiso says
Oh no! So sorry to hear about your friend 🙁 And what a lot of money she raised too. I haven’t been doing a lot of speedwork and I’ve noticed my VO2 Max has taken a big hit as a result!
