Well here we still are. It’s August already. While technically there’s still plenty of summer left. I’d be lying if I didn’t notice the later sunrise as well as how our driveway lights are starting to click on earlier and earlier in the evening. Is it too early for pumpkin spice? Why yes. Yes it is, although it is not too early to see Halloween stuff in the stores. I’m sitting down and catching up on life over a cup of coffee with Deborah and Coco and you. What’ll ya have?
Over coffee I’d ask you if you heard the news about the London Marathon cancelling. They waited so long, they really ticked off lots of runners. The World Marathon Majors came out with a statement that said any virtual majors would not count toward the six stars. I get it. What I don’t get is I have a friend who raised 10 grand to get a spot in the Boston Marathon this year. She thinks they’ll make her fundraise all over again to get a spot in next year’s race. That would be a total buzzkill.
Over coffee I’d tell you I was a guest on two different podcasts recently. I think they’re both going to air next week. I’ll keep you posted.
Over coffee I’d tell you we’re taking Thing 1 back to college in less than a week. While of course I’m always wistful about back-to-school, she’s been home since mid-March and it’s time for her to get on with collegiate life. She’ll do a mix of in-person and remote learning, but in the event the campus shuts down completely, the plan is for her to stay in Atlanta and learn from her apartment vs return home. That said, they do have a long break at Thanksgiving that will last through the end of the year. She’ll be home for that.
Over coffee I’d tell you I finally got a haircut. The first one of 2020. Oy. And no pic either. My bad.
Over coffee I’d tell you that as a coach, it’s so gratifying to hear people say they showed up consistently, lost weight, ran faster etc. because of a plan you designed. The ZOOMA Summer Challenge I coached was filled with women who got amazing results. I’ll be coaching the Back to School Challenge again this year, it runs from September 1-30. Registration is open now!
What would you tell me over coffee? Anyone heading back to school in your world? What podcasts do you enjoy? When was your last haircut?

At this point the race cancellations don’t surprise me any more, I just don’t know why some races have waited so long to cancel. I’m just kind of glad I only signed up for one race in 2020 before all this started. I hope the transition back to college goes well for your daughter!
Wendy says
I’m so sad for all the cancellations–it’s hardest for the kids, I think! I’m glad to hear Maddie is heading back to GA no matter what. I’m sure you’re a bit nervous! What a crazy year. I miss our lunch dates!

That’s awesome that you were a guest on two podcasts, Marcia! Yes, please keep us updated!
The London Marathon waited far too long. I’m so interested to see what our local Zurich Marathon will do. They have 8’000 runners registered and they insist it is happening in real life on 6 September. And registration is still open.
People are starting to get upset becomes it is becoming more and more obvious that it isn’t going to happen.
Zenaida Arroyo says
I don’t understand why they’re waiting so long to cancel the races. The way things are now, every race scheduled for this year needs to be cancelled now. Why give anyone hope?
No picture of your haircut? So did it really happen?
How fun about the podcasts? I don’t listen to any but would be interested in listening to you.
Coco says
LOL on the pumpkin spice. Just say no! Ooh, I can’t wait to hear your podcasts! Back to school sure is different this year. My friend’s son is starting at Duke, and has to go this weekend but won’t learn until later if any of his classes will be in-person. If not, they will be allowed to move out for the semester — what a logistical nightmare!
I made a hair appointment for this week. I figured the bangs I butchered have grown out enough for her to fix them, so it’s a good time. 😉
Deborah Brooks says
Got my hair colored and cut yesterday always feels so good! My son is also going back next weekend (we are taking him) and sounds like they have a similar plan in place. I feel he just needs some socialization at this age so he doesn’t get depressed. He has pretty much been in our basement all summer! Fingers crossed for both of them for a healthy semester. That is fantastic that your Zoom program is going so well! Congrats and thanks for stopping in for coffee
Darlene S. Cardillo says
Yes. That’s so cool. Can’t wait to listen to those podcasts.
Doesn’t a haircut make you feel renewed? Did you color too? I’m still not at let it go gray.
Summer has sped by. Wish the pandemic had.
Kimberly Hatting says
Awhhhh, the Ozzy man made it to the cover shot of your coffee post 😉 Aren’t our doggy kids the greatest? My last haircut was a couple weeks ago, and it was my second COVID cut (the other had been in late May, after a 4-month sabbatical). That’s great the daughter has a plan in place for college. I hope all goes well!
Cari says
So great to know you’ve had a direct impact on so many people.
Cannot wait for a haircut. I have straw growing out of my head right now
The lampposts are definitely on longer into my morning runs. I don’t mind this week’s temps though
Denise @ runheartfit says
That would really suck if your friend has to raise money again to get a spot in Boston.
Very cool about the podcasts. I listen to a couple true crime podcasts and another fitness one but would love to check out your interview.
Beckett @ Birchwood Pie says
Obviously racing is in a tough spot right now, and if I lose out on a $30 5k entry fee, that’s fine. It’s not fine if the race doesn’t honor all of your friend’s hard work to raise the $10k. C’mon Boston, do better!
I can’t wait to listen to your podcasts. My two favorite shows are Ali on the Run and the Run Eat Repeat podcast, I also listen to Rambling Runner and Lindsay Hein quite a bit.
Kim G says
That’s awesome about the podcasts – I can’t wait to listen to them once they come out!
I was very surprised that the London Marathon waited so long to make their announcement. I can understand why runners were upset. I really hope that your friend doesn’t have to fundraise again for Boston in 2021 considered she raised over $10K this year!!
Chocolaterunsjudy says
I actually did have 2 haircuts at the beginning of 2020. Nothing since then.
My brother leaves with his youngest next week to drive from CA to CO. Almost all my nieces & nephews are in this weird twilight zone — often back at home in their late 20s/30. With or without a job.
Why run a world major virtually if you’re not going to get your star? I actually think it’s somewhat unfair. I think it takes a lot more grit to do something like that on your own. I suppose I get it. Maybe they need some kind of special star.
Jenn says
I got my hair cut in February before the madness. So six months. I am desperate for a change, so I have to figure that out. Soon.
I know a few people heading off to college. It’s definitely interesting and much different from when i went.
I hope they don’t make your friend raise $10K again. That would be absolutely awful. I get that it’s for charity, but that’s a lot of money and she isn’t getting her end of the bargain: running Boston.
Michelle D. says
I hope things work out for your daughter and she’s able to take her classes in person. I guess at this point the kids should be prepared for almost anything!
I will never understand why London waited so long. It would just be so wrong if your friend is expected to fundraise again for Boston! That’s a crazy sum of money, especially in these uncertain times.
Yay for a haircut!
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
I did not hear about London….so frustrating. I feel for your friend and Boston. I can’t imagine how hard it has been to fundraise this year, then to possibly have to do it all over again next year?
It sounds like your daughter has a good plan for back to school. Hopefully everyone remains safe and healthy!
Farrah says
I don’t understand why races wait that long to cancel–I understand wanting to be hopeful, but at this point, any race this year should really be virtual.
That’s awesome that you were on 2 podcasts! :] Can’t wait to hear more about them!
