It was a fresh start kind of week here. Classes started for both my college Sophomore and high school Freshman. It was remote learning, (thing 1 will start hybrid learning this week) but still, cheers to a new school year…hopefully a safe and healthy one. Before I get to all of that, here’s how my workouts went.
Monday: Walk 4 miles, Speedwork 6x400m
Tuesday: Walk 4 miles, Strength training, 1 hour volleyball
Wednesday: Walk 4 miles, Trail run 3 miles
Thursday: Walk 4 miles, Full-Body Strength training
Friday: Walk 4 miles, otherwise a rest day
Saturday: Walk 4 miles, + a kayak adventure
Sunday: Walk 4 miles, Trail run 4 miles
While I walked a ton and did a stair workout while in Atlanta, running there amounted to exactly bupkis, so I was compelled to absolutely NOT rest on Monday as I usually do. Instead I happened by the middle school track, that until now had been locked. Lo and behold it was open for business. Don’t mind if I do! I also noticed that the parking lot was pretty full, meaning many of the middle school teachers are opting to teach via Zoom from their classroom vs from home.
On the way home though, I ducked into one of my usual trails for a cooldown. With maybe half a mile to go I felt a sudden, very painful sensation on my inner ankle. It felt as if someone was holding a lit cigarette against my skin. I knew immediately it had to be a sting of some kind. The pain was acute but relatively short lived with no swelling whatsoever. But almost a week later, it continues to be SO itchy! On our walk the next morning, I noticed the hornet’s nest pictured above, very close to where I got stung. Mystery solved.
On Tuesday I did a strength sesh as well as shot two video workouts for my upcoming ZOOMA Back to School Challenge, which gets underway on September 1. Are you joining me?
By Wednesday I was whipped and I’m blaming delayed onset travel fatigue from our weekend in Atlanta. Nevertheless, the trails had me feeling brand new in no time.
Our weekend was low-key, except we finally got out on the water in our kayaks. Props to Mom Nature for yet another week of amazing weather!

Balance is something many of us take for granted…until we fall down. This video details 5 of my favorite balance drills. Check it out and thanks to everyone who has subscribed!

It’s that time again! Join me right here this Friday.
How was your week? Did you see the new moon? Do you feel fall in the air? Ever been stung by a hornet?
I’m linking up with Kim and Deborah for the Weekly Run Down. Join us!

Ouch on the hornet sting! It sure does feel good to get onto the water. I get the post move in fatigue. It was a lot both emotionally and physically this year. Impressed w your 4 mile a day walks and I hope to extend mine more when it cools down a bit more. Thanks for linking!

I’ve gotten two bad stings this summer. One on my wrist while working at my computer in my basement, and one on my head while running past a fallen hornet’s next.
The volleyball sounds fun though!
Good luck to Thing 2. Hope things stay ok for Thing 1.

That’s a sizeable honret’s nest! Yikes!
How nice to get out on the track – I keep stalking ours, but it remains locked tight.
Hope both your daughters have great school years!

Sorry about the sting! The kayaking looks like so much fun! Good luck to your daughters with their new school year!

Good luck to the kids for the new school year. I think ours all go back in a week or so. And ouch on the sting! I got bitten by something in the week and yes, the itching, argh! At least it’s cooler here now so I can wear longer leggings to hide the plasters!

I’m LOL because apparently great minds think alike since my video is also on balance this week!
Ouch! I just HATE getting stung. I do have an essential oil mix that really helps with the itchiness (I’ve used it for some mosquito bites lately) but you have to have good oils & a carrier oil. Anyway, it’s 5 drops each lavender & peppermint mixed with the carrier oil. I may just have to travel with this stuff now!
Fingers crossed on healthy schooling.

Ugh to that hornet sting! Sorry that it’s still so itchy – hopefully it gets better soon.
I’m glad that back to school went well for your daughters. I like that the teachers are able to teach via Zoom in their classrooms. I bet that makes things a little bit more “normal” for both them and the students.

Glad the hornet sting was relatively minor. I was stung once under the tongue while riding a bike-taught me not to blow bubbles while riding!
Hope Things 1 and 2 have a good year. I can imagine it would be easier for the teachers to work from their classroom with all their materials than from home.

Hasn’t it been amazing weather the past couple of weeks? If only we could bottle it. The hornets do love it tho. Hoping to avoid a sting. One year I got stung in the eyelid when I was running and my whole eye swelled shut. It was very dramatic. I do fear inhaling one of those little buggers.
I hope and pray that Maddie stays safe down in Georgia as well as my Matthew in Madison. College kids aren’t so great at social distancing. Mike didn’t even want to go to visit him on our way home. Ugh.

Ouch! It’s been a while but yes I have been stung and it HURT. Congrats on the first week of school.

Ouch to that sting! The nest resembles the beauty from our driveway last year, thankfully none of those little beasts bothered any of us. I’m loving all those walks you’re knocking out…just a tad bit envious #sigh

We had a couple days of cooler weather but it was short lived and now the heat and humidity is back. I don’t think I’ve been stung by a hornet- sounds painful!
Jessie says
Yowsa- that nest! Scary. Glad it was just the one sting! Crazy how that stuff keeps itching/hurting for way too long.
I hope school all goes well. What a weird year.

And I learned another new word – bupkis! Thanks, Marcia! 😉
Sounds like a great week except for the hornet sting. I didn’t get stung by anything yet.
We also went to our lake last week. We used our stand-up paddles. It’s so peaceful and relaxing to be out on the water.

Oh, I am all about those kayak adventures! So fun!
Balance is definitely on my list of struggles right nowl It used to come so naturally, but now I need to work on it more. I think I need to get a bosu ball.

I got back on the track this week too. I’d say it felt good, but in a “painful the next day” kind of way. LOL!!! At our bootcamp workouts, we always sneak in some balance work – like standing on one foot during our arm moves. It all helps!

Love that teachers have the option to teach from their classroom. Crossing my fingers we get the chance too.
Ouch on the sting. Bees scare me so I tend to freak out when I see one but try now to make drastic moves.
I kayaked once when I was in Alaska and don’t think I will again. I mean it was fun but I was also terrified!
The weather last week felt good but now it is warming up again. Fun times!

Thankfully, I’ve never been stung by a hornet because I’ve heard it’s really sore. I did have an incident on a race once where I had a very itchy sensation on my arm. Thankfully, it didn’t sound as bad as yours did but it was uncomfortable for at least a km of the race. Must have been some kind of insect.

I love to kayak! I got out on the lake a couple times this Fall but hoping to try a crisp Fall morning. I have only kayaked in summer.
