It’s been a week. What’s that thing they say about stuff happening in threes? That has been the case here. Before I get into it, here’s how the week in workouts shook out.
Monday: Rest, Walk 4 miles
Tuesday: Run 3 miles, Lower Body Strength, walk 4 miles
Wednesday: Upper body strength, Good Posture Workout, walk 4 miles
Thursday Run 3 miles, Walk 4 miles Wicked storms
Friday: Walk 4 miles, HIIT Workout
Saturday: Walk 4 miles, ZOOMA Popsicle 5k
Sunday: Walk 4 miles, Trail Run 3 miles, Heavy Strength
It’s been so dang hot and my running miles reflected that. Even getting out early offered little relief. I don’t “have” to run. I reminded myself of that. With no races on the horizon there’s no official training happening. But I do want to keep the habit going. So I kept my runs to a bare, slow, very sweaty minimum.
Where have the decent humans gone?
Road Rage. What is it good for? Those of you who saw this Instagram post already know what I’m talking about. I’m trying to stop the incident from swirling on repeat in my head so I’m not going to rehash it here, but I’m starting to wonder if all men in extra large pickup trucks are mentally ill. It kind of reminds me of the guy at the grocery store who called me the “C” word once because I got in a checkout line in front of him (he was behind me, I did not see him. The eyes in back of my head were not working that day). Wtf?
Scams on the Elderly. If there’s something in the running for worse than road rage it is this. My dad’s been holding his own at home, which makes me so happy since the last place I want him to be in the age of Covid is in a senior home. Last week he got a call from someone supposedly arranging/adjusting his home care. My dad’s body may be trashed but thank sweet Jesus, his mind is sharp and when the convo turned to “I need your bank account number and social security number” he referred the caller to me. What the bloody hell.
I needed to vent those two things but I’m also going to remind myself that, although they were close calls, I came out of the road rage incident upset but unscathed and my dad did not get scammed. It does make you wonder about human nature though. Geez.
Shifting Gears
New On YouTube. Screen time and stress take a real toll on my neck, upper back and shoulders. I created this quick sequence to strengthen that upper back area and encourage you to keep those shoulders from rounding and slumping forward. Give it a try and let me know if it helps.
Because I want to end this post on a positive note. Look how cute these socks from Balega are! They showed up at the perfect time and were just the reminder I needed this week.
How was your week? Is the heat affecting your workouts?
I’m linking up with Kim and Deborah for the Weekly Run Down. Join us!

Love those Balega socks! Very cute.
Ugh, your stories make my cringe. What kind of monsters take advantage of the elderly and glad your dad is sharp, but how many others aren’t. 🙁
I hope this week has less of those kinds of stories to share!

It does seem that men that drive large pick up trucks are usually overcompensating for something – I’ll just leave it at that, lol. So glad that both you and your daughter are safe and that you were able to keep your composure because I don’t know if I would have! People who attempt to scam the elderly are the lowest form of trash. My grandma almost got scammed last year but thankfully she didn’t fall for it.
Those socks are so cute! We all need a little love right about now 🙂

I’ve been saying how people have become more mean during the Trump reign and it is true. He sets the tone for the rest of the country. Finally, he is wearing a mask. And what Kim said about the men in large trucks, it is true. Same with large boats. Small hands, small…you know what I mean.
Here’s to a better week!

I’m in agreement with Kim about men in large trucks! Sorry you had a crazy encounter. And, yes there is a special place in hell for people who try to take advantage of the elderly.
Wishing you a better week ahead!

My daughters both have mentioned (more than once) that whenever there’s an issue with parking spaces (someone parking too close or taking up TWO spots or parked at a weird angle so no one else can infringe on the next available spot, etc.), it’s ALWAYS a big truck LOL We have a lot of those in Iowa. SO glad you came out of the road rage incident unharmed, but ugh. As I eluded on your Insta/FB posts, Karma will have her way with those idiots…it’s actually kind of nice to sit back and watch it all play out without having to do anything on your part LOL Glad to hear our father is doing alright as well. And, yes, to all the heat this week!

So sorry about the road rage incident and so glad your Dad didn’t fall for that scam! Yikes! My FIL fell for a tricky computer scam, but luckily he told us about what was going on in time for us to stop the hacking. All kinds of scams are on the rise these days with scammers taking advantage of people stressed out and distracted by covid and related job insecurity, etc. Glad those socks brightened your day- they sure are cute!

Well, you saw my comment on your post. I’d rather not drive if I don’t have to. Too dangerous out there.
I must have those socks!!! Which style are those? I like the fit. My favorite is the ultra light no show. They’re perfect for running.
When someone calls I don’t answer unless the contact is in my address book. No thanks. Leave a message and I might return your call.

Ugh, why do people have to be #$&!@$? I guess some people don’t have enough problems so they try to create more? I am very glad that you, your daughter, and your father are OK. Someone once tried to scam my father-in-law over the phone and told him that his grandson was in jail and needed bail. Unfortunately for that person my sister-in-law happened to be visiting when they called and she tore them a new one over the phone.
Now for some happy news – I just did your posture workout and it is legit! I used some muscles that I don’t use very often and yes posture is definitely an issue for me. How often should I do it, every other day?

my parents also got one of those phone scam things last week. I have noticed that people seem to have such pent up anger and no filter at all. We had a run in w a guy on a bike going the wrong way on a sidewalk. Apparently he decided he had the right of way and called me some nice names. I think the Covid stress is getting to some people more. Anyway glad you and yours are ok! I need to do your posture workout-I can always work on that. Thanks for linking and have a great week ahead

We all need heart socks, and could do with more love in the world. Scams on the elderly are so horrific because not only do they not always have the faculties to spot them, but they can often least afford to be scammed. Glad your dad had the foresight to send them to you. And hugs, so glad you’re safe
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
I’m sorry you had to deal with people like that this week! Glad all worked out ok, but its so frustrating. Hope this week is a better one!

I love the socks! You know how I love my hearts.
Don’t even get me started on the scams & the elderly. Heck, we’ve been getting scam calls about Social Security! Unfortunately my Dad’s mind was NOT ok, and he once gave his CC to someone in France. 🙁 It’s truly sick all the junk mail he used to get about donating, too (and he was a sucker for all of that, too).
I do have to say that my mom’s place has been doing a great job of keeping them all safe. So far, so good, knock on wood.
Catrina says
Balega socks are still my absolute favourite. I don’t have the beautiful ones with hearts, though!
Sounds like you had a rough week, Marcia! I hope this week will be kinder with you. Sometimes it all comes at once, doesn’t it?
Take care!
Jenn says
The heat is effecting everything.
People who prey on the elderly and vulnerable deserve a special spot in hell. I just don’t understand it.
We live in an area of big ol’ trucks and vehicles, and the drivers can be aggressive at times. It’s hard to swallow it and not react but some days, I lose my mind right back. Enough of the craziness.
fairytales and fitness says
I’ll be checking your posture video out for sure! That is something I always worry about because my posture is terrible. I wonder what that comes from? Not having enough upper body strength???? -M
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
It’s not surprising that so many people fall for scammers. What scum. You should see the stuff we get at my office. I work at a bank and some of the emails we get look pretty legit. And sadly, some of our clients fall for them. I love Balega socks! I get the ones with inspirational phrases on them and it’s always nice to read them when I get laced up to go!
The Accidental Marathoner says
I’m so glad you and your dad are both safe! What a bunch of assholes people are. Your YouTube videos are great – nice and short but killer workouts! I’ve referred a few friends!

Love the socks, shame about the arseholes. You are a force for good in the world, though, esp with the great workouts you share.
