It’s early. I’m relaxing in my outdoor sanctuary, aka our backyard deck and sipping that first glorious cup of coffee. A warm breeze is whispering through the trees and the wind chimes are treating me to melodic notes. Sleep has been hit or miss lately, usually miss, since my mind tends to race at night, so it’s nice to be out relaxing, breathing deep and escaping from the world, if only for a few minutes.
I’m joining Deborah, Coco and YOU for the Ultimate Coffee Date.
If we were having coffee I’d tell you the Caveman had his follow up dr. appointment and his giant cast was replaced with a robo-brace. I had the opportunity to see the incision. I anticipated a neat little line. Um no. All I’m gonna say is YIKES! The technology involved in triceps reattachment is so fascinating though. They screwed an “anchor” into the bone, to which the triceps are attached. Over time (2-3 years), the triceps will regrow onto the bone and the anchor will dissolve. Cool, right?
If we were having coffee I’d tell you now that school is out, there’s talk about how the high school will potentially open for the new school year in August. The scenario that was described as “most likely to happen” is one where the student body is divided into groups and only one group attends school on any given day to promote social distancing, while the rest learn remotely.
If we were having coffee I’d ask you if it’s warmed up abruptly where you are. Seriously we went from frost to record heat (94 degrees) over the course of a couple of weeks. I’m in that place where I don’t remember what my warm-weather non-running wardrobe even is, since I haven’t changed out my closet yet. I do love these fleeting days of maximum daylight though.
If we were having coffee I’d ask you what you’re watching since the Caveman and I seemed to have adopted an after-dinner Netflix date. We just wrapped up the final season of Dead to Me, which was definitely not as good as the first season. Now we’re watching Little Fires Everywhere. The jury is still out on that one, although we’re only one episode in.
What would you tell me over coffee?
Wendy says
We are Netfixing here too.I loved Dead to Me, but Little Fires Everywhere was just ok. We finished Mrs America, which I loved, but Mike thought was ok. We also watched White Lines, which he liked but I did not. LOL
Catrina says
That triceps reattachment really is fascinating! Will Caveman have to wait 2 years until he can workout or can he go back to a normal gym routine when the robo-brace is off?
I like the peaceful setting of your morning cup of coffee, by the way!
Beckett @ Birchwood Pie says
Yes we need more details on robo-brace! We saw Robocop not too long ago and it was a fun watch. I haven’t gotten past the 2nd episode of Dead to Me. I tried Little Fires but I just couldn’t get into it. Someone recommended Waco on Netflix and at first I was like “nah, no way would I be interested in that” but it was really good.
Deborah Brooks says
Ouch on the tricep! Wow 2-3 years to really heal that’s incredible. I did not love little fires everywhere. I am a big fan of the 2 actresses but I thought both of their characters were so unlikable for different reasons. I need a character to root for and just could not find it. If you have apple tv, Defending Jacob was really good. I’ve never watched so much tv before! Thanks for linking for coffee!
Darlene S Cardillo says
I love Dead to me but yes season 1 was better. Looking forward to season 3. Haven’t started a new series…been walking outside in the evening and then reading.
Yes…all of sudden it is summer…I went from tights to skirts in a blink of an eye.
Kim G says
Oh man, that robo brace looks intense! But I guess it’s better than the large cast he had before?
The school scenario sounds in line with what they are thinking about doing here. Honestly I think that’s the only way they will be able to actually have school in a building. Hopefully the students will adjust to the 50/50 split, but kids are resilient so I think it should all go well – fingers crossed.
Erica @ erica finds says
Did you watch Big Little Lies? The Americans? We’re watching the last season of Homeland now and Kim’s Convenience for lighthearted humor. Fleabag?
Kimberly Hatting says
That robo brave definitely looks high tech! I’m in search of a new series on Netflix…I’ve seen the first two episodes of Dead to Me, and it’s looking pretty twisted, but in a compelling suck-me-in kind of way 🙂 Happy summer!
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
We recently wrapped up Longmire. We both really like it. Now we’re on to Game of Thrones (yes, we’re that behind the times). He bought that a while back. Not sure what we’ll both be able to settle on after that.
Yikes to the Caveman’s brace!
The school opening sounds a lot like my brother’s job. He’s in the office for 1 week, back at home for 1 week — they divided his office into 2 groups. He’s very happy to be out of the home again, actually!
Laurie says
Is there anything better than drinking your first cup of coffee sitting on your deck? Love that mental image! Your poor hubby! Glad to read he is on the mend, but Ouch! We have not watched Dead to Me yet. I will suggest it tonight. We watched Grace & Frankie and loved it and the Komitski Method and liked it. Now we’re watching Community. It’s OK.
Michelle D. says
Wow, that is some brace your husband’s got there! With the 2-3 years needed for the triceps to reattach, is he able to return to working out?
I’ve been struggling to find a new series to get into – we liked Little Fires. So many people recommended Ozarks, but I couldn’t get past the first episode…my husband’s willing to try it again. Have you seen Modern Love? It was so so good…but I think that might be Amazon Prime…they’re all starting to blend together.

It will be really interesting the see what schools do in the fall. How will parents manage that if they have to be back at work but their kids are home several days a week? So many unknowns.
Jenn says
That robocast is CRAZY! It’s amazing what they can do. Truly amazing.
We just watched Defending Jacob. It is HEAVY. Super heavy. As a mother, I couldn’t breathe watching most of it. I am also watching Snowpiercer, which I enjoy (see the movie first, if you haven’t). Tonight, I want to rent Selma.
So far, the surveys have indicated that most people want school to resume as normal in fall. There is a lot of chatter about things like meals being delivered to classrooms, electives being cut, and teachers moving from class to class vs the students doing it. We are watching it and will make decisions as needed. Virtual school is an option in our district, and I guess I could homeschool, if I had to.
Farrah says
It’s definitely gotten wayyyy hot lately, although I’ve been perpetually inside, so I don’t notice it quite as much (only when I go out to drive to work).
I still need to watch Little Fires Everywhere! (I need to finish season 2 of Big Little Lies first though, hehe.)
Coco says
I really liked Little Fires even though I didn’t like the book that much. We also like Mrs. America although I’m not sure I’d suggest a show about political battles right now. For that reason we’re watching Never Have I Ever — clever high school drama is much easier to handle.
Orthopedics is amazing, but wow on that robo arm — is he in a lot of pain?
Irma says
I can’t help with the TV shows as we’re not big TV watchers. I would be fascinated watching how they reattached the your hubby’s tricep! That sounds so cool! Will he need the brace for 2-3 years until it has fully re-attached?
I think schools here will also be combo of online and in person. I have younger kids so some of the guidelines seem awful – how are kids going to play? Socialization is a big part of why kids go to school and some of the recommendations seem contradictory to kids’ developmental needs. As the summer goes on, I think things might change as we see the trends change.
I am definitely not prepared for this heat and have been doing more treadmill running with the AC and fan on!
Cari says
That brace is something else. How cool that the anchor will dsolve. Like a hardcore version of dissolving stitches for teeth extractions
