It got hot and busy up in here. Say what? Add virtual graduation and all the festivities that went along with it, a recital and some appointments to the mix, and I feel like I was busier this week than I’ve been in some time. Here’s how the workouts went:
Monday: Memorial Day virtual 10k + walk 3 miles
Tuesday: Walk 4 miles + Strength + Core Workout
Wednesday: Walk 3 miles + Trail Run 4 miles
Thursday: Walk 3 miles + Trail Run 4 miles + Bootcamp Workout
Friday: Walk 2 miles Rest (Final farewell to 8th grade car parade)
Saturday: Walk 3 miles, Run 5 miles (flute recital)
Sunday: Walk 4 miles, Strength-Balance-Mobility
I was reminded how much I loathe running in heat/humidity. Even the trails under overcast skies are challenging when the dew point is 70. That said, by Friday the heat and humidity blew out of here, blessing us with a gorgeous weekend.
I went to the dentist. There were a ton of precautions: temperature taking, hand washing, bringing my own pen to sign things and wearing my own sunglasses as a face shield. It all went well though and the kids will go this week.
Ozzy had a spa day. I need to follow his lead because my hair is atrocious.
We wrapped up middle school with a final celebratory car parade. After 13 years of pickups, dropoffs, volunteering, and countless trips bringing forgotten lunches, gym clothes and what have you, it was bittersweet to see the teachers and staff, thank them one last time and say goodbye. Cheers to our rising high school freshman and college sophomore!
Thing 2 had her spring flute recital via Zoom. After much deliberation on whether the recital should be postponed, her teacher decided to just go for it, because who knows when large groups will be allowed to gather again? Her performance was amazing. Her attire, not so much. I’ve learned to pick my battles though, and as you know Zoom is from the waist up, so whatever. Insert eye roll here.
New on YouTube. I runfess I may have created this Full-Body Cardio Bootcamp workout as an alternative to running when it’s wicked hot/humid out. Give it a try and let me know what you think!
The week ahead
- Caveman has a post-op dr. appt. He won’t be allowed to drive anytime soon, but he is hoping to get some of his mammoth cast off.
- ZOOMA Summer Challenge gets underway. I’m coaching it again this year. Still time to join us!
- I see my thyroid dr. Finally following up after the AutoImmune Protocol adventure I embarked upon at the beginning of the year.
Final Words
I’m sad about Boston’s deferral but not surprised. It’s a massive bummer though for all who’ve worked so hard to earn a spot.
I’m heartsick about the violence happening across the country. I’m all for peaceful protests, but the fires, vandalism and looting have gone way too far and in no way honor the family or memory of George Floyd.
How was your week? Do you do an alternate workout when it’s too hot to run? Any graduation celebrations?
I’m linking up with Kim and Deborah for the Weekly Run Down. Join us!

What a week it’s been–it’s so hard to recap it all, isn’t it? Thank goodness for some of the normal stuff we’ve got going on. I’m going to try your bootcamp workout–I love me some bootcamp!
Have a good week.

Aw man I got schooled by the heat! I did most of my runs close to my house where there’s a lot of shade and it was still very humbling. I can see from your mileage that you’re going to finish your state challenge in no time!
Deborah Brooks says
I am jealous of Ozzie’s spa day! I am all about the boot camp when it’s crazy humid. I did the same this week. I see you are also enjoying the daily walks. They are great aren’t they? I am enjoying listening to my books on audible while walking. Thanks for linking

Well you already know how I feel about summer running, lol. I just try to deal with it for 3 months until I can get my glorious Fall running 🙂 I’m loving Ozzy’s new haircut – I’m supposed to get my haircut in a few weeks, keeping my fingers crossed that it happens!
Congrats to your daughter on her graduation!

So happy Thing 2’s performance went well! Great photo of her – she will always remember her Zoom attire for that recital. 😊
A boot camp is a great alternative to running in the heat. Great that you are so active despite having so much going on!
Liz Dexter says
I’m kind of pleased I have got into running early as it does save me from the heat! I had two hot walks today though to meet friends at the park and have blisters from my shoes! Well done to your daughter for her recital!

I need to check out your boot camp cause you know how much I loathe running in the humidity!
I’m jealous of Ozzy’s spa day LOL – I’m in desperate need of a haircut!
Congrats to your daughter on her recital and graduation! My son’s middle school graduation is this week – really where has the time gone!
Jessie says
Oh my gosh, Ozzy looks so adorable! What a cutie.
70% humidity is so tough! But, better than ice I guess 🙂 Great week for you!
Coco says
Congrats to Thing 2! LOL on her recital attire, but as someone who’s taking this opportunity not shower every day, I can’t criticize. 🙂 I’m so used to staying home, it will be hard when I am “busy” with errands and such again.

Things are definitely picking up again especially with the end of the school year. It’s hard going from our little bubble back into society. It’ll be a process for sure. Congrats to your daughter! Business up top is the new look. 🙂

Tough emotional week for all of us. I agree…the rioting and violence serves no respectful purpose. Anyways, huge congrats to the graduate 😉 Our weather roller-coaster’d all week…hot/humid last weekend and Monday, then it got cold and rainy, then warm, then pleasant over the weekend. All that weather guessing keeps us young…right?
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
That’s a lot of waling & running this week! Good job, Marcia!
When it gets to hot, I have my treadmill, although I haven’t been on it in months.
I am overdue for a dentist appt, but I’ll wait a while yet. I had an appt. The day after my Dad died. Obviously that didn’t happen, and since that was the end of January — yeah, I’ll be ok for a while.
Darlene says
I went to the dentist and they took all the necessary precautions.
You had a big week in terms of running and walking.
We had spring summer and fall all in one week. When it’s hot, I’ll walk instead of run. No races coming up so who cares?
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
I’m with you on the kid’s clothing choices! My daughter is the same way 🙂 Glad the recital was a go. They put so much hard work into things like that. My daughter will not be taking band next year (her senior year), so we missed out on my kids performing together for one last time. Bummer.
Jenn says
Congratulations to your daughter! I have had to let go of wardrobe disagreements. It’s just not worth the fight, sometimes LOL!
I hope caveman is able to get some of that cast off, too.
This week was pretty quiet. We are still laying pretty low, and now just trying to wrap my head around everything going on. It’s just too much too process.
Zenaida Arroyo says
When it is too hot to run, I just don’t run. Haha! I took my mother to the dentist and they took both of our temperatures, had to wait in the car until they were ready for her, and then still I had to wait while she went inside.
The weather was brutal!
I am sure this is not the way you were hoping for your daughter’s school experiences (finishing up 8th grade and finishing up 1st year of college) to be like for them.
I am not surprised about Boston. I am surprised they decided to postpone it in the first place. It is sad for those that were planning it to run it this year. It it even more said for those first timers. 🙁
