Yeah it’s been quite a week. Thank my lucky stars, full moons and everything else for running, that’s all I can say.
Here’s how my workouts went:
Monday: Rest
Tuesday: Run 2 miles + Strength, Balance, Mobility
Wednesday: Trail Run 5 miles
Thursday: Lower Body Burn Workout + Yoga + 3 miles for Maud
Friday: Rest (dr. with Caveman)
Saturday: Trail Run 5 miles
Sunday: Strength + Core Tabata
I’m grateful there were only flurries on this run…just saying.
We’re tracking unseasonably cold again this year. Let’s just say I’m glad I did not give into temptation and try to plant anything yet, because we were treated to a late-season hard frost. 26 degrees is not what comes to mind when I think of May. Last year I well remember agonizing over the cold/wet forecast because I’d planned a large yard gathering for Thing 1’s high school graduation, so I guess this is not unusual. Weather is the least of my worries though. Read on.

I was in the midst of Cinco de Mayo/Taco Tuesday dinner prep when a very loud and ominous clatter arose from the pain cave, along with a blood curdling groan. Long story short: The Caveman had a mishap and ended up rupturing his triceps tendon. We…I mean he, spent the evening in the ER while I waited in the car…because you know, Covid. Since then it’s been all doctor’s appointments, X-Rays, MRIs, second opinions, and what have you. Hopefully surgery will happen this week.
ZOOMA Fitter Stronger Faster Challenge ended this week. Summer Challenge starts June 1. There’s still time to join us and if you join the ZOOMA Run Club before May 15, (there’s even a free option) the 8-week Summer Challenge is only $35.
Lower Body Burn Workout is new on YouTube. Thanks to all of you who’ve given it a try and subscribed! I really appreciate it!
Happy Mothers’ Day! How was your week? Any fun Mothers’ Day plans? Ever gotten injured in the gym? Are your Covid-19 restrictions easing up at all?
I’m linking up with Kim and Deborah for the Weekly Run Down. Join us!
Wendy says
Geez. As if things couldn’t get worse. I swear, the planets need to get inn alignment or something. 2020 has just sucked. I hope Greg heals quickly. Will he need surgery? Is he in a lot of pain?
Hang in there. <3
Coco says
Yikes on the home gym mishap — I guess you got some May-hem after all. I hope he’s not in a lot of pain and his surgery goes well. I bought some flowers for our planters on Friday and luckily our temps stayed above 32F. My little basil plants I got in March are about to give up (I’ve moved them inside on cold days) but I got some new ones at the Farmer’s Market yesterday. ,
Beckett @ Birchwood Pie says
Oh no, poor caveman! I hope he’s OK and heals up quick.
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
Oh no poor Caveman & poor you — I’m so sorry! I hope that everything goes smoothly & sending healing vibes.
Obviously, not only cold here but actual snow. Not a fan.Still cold today, but a heck of a lot warmer than yesterday & no more snow. Please, God, NO MORE SNOW!!!!!
Have a great mother’s day, Marcia.
Cari says
*Hugs* You more than all of us need a do-over on 2020.
Might have to steal Coco’s “MAY-hem”
Our PAUSE was extended through June 7, but I don’t even know what that means anymore. I just *selfishly) want some fresh fish. It was good to get out of the neighborhood and I’m looking forward to more of that as the weather improves. Maybe? We also had sub freezing and that’s absurd
Jessie says
Oh my goodness, a ruptured tricep! That sounds so terrible. I’m so sorry to hear this! Ugh, and what at time for it to happen. Thinking of you and the family!
Deborah Brooks says
oh wow I bet that tricep is so painful! Hope all goes well with the surgery. I would have waited in the car as well! Need to check out your workout as I am always looking for new ways to mix it up. happy happy mother’s day to you!
Kim G says
Oh no! That injury sounds absolutely brutal. Prayers for a successful surgery and speedy recovery for your husband. I hope that you are doing okay too – I can’t imagine how stressful that must have been for you!
Thanks for posting that new workout on YouTube – I’ll check it out!
Catrina says
I’m so sorry, Marcia. I think I would have cried while waiting in the car.
But, always the brave warrior, you still managed to log a solid running week. Good for you! It’s therapeutic, for sure! 😊
Kimberly Hatting says
OMG on the Caveman! How scary…for him and for you (as you waited outside, in the car). This week was rather a shock to the system (after last weekend’s warm temps). I, also, have procrastinated planting my flowers, and it paid off. That said, yesterday’s hour-long garden squat session left me a bit weary LOL
Michelle D. says
Ugh, I’m sorry to hear about your husband! I hope he’s not in too much pain and doesn’t have to wait long for the surgery.
While I had prepped garden beds I’m so glad I held off on planting anything new. What’s in the garden already is most unhappy with these temps!
I loved that lower body burn workout – I’ll definitely be doing it again.
angela @ happy fit mama says
OMG! A ruptured tricep? How did that happen?!?! I hope he’s doing better with each day. I feel so bad for anyone who has to have surgery or go to the ER right now. No one wants to be alone in situation like that!
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
That’s terrible! I hope he is feeling ok and heals quickly. It must have been so stressful to have to take him to the ER right now, especially since you couldn’t go in to help him.
Erica @ Erica Finds says
Yikes! I’ve never heard of a ruptured tricep – but I know achilles hurts like hell. Best to Greg on a quick recovery!
Darlene S Cardillo says
Ouch! GL to Greg… and to you!
2020 just plain sucks!
Tired of being cold…Mother Nature just wants us to stay indoors. I for one refuse to listen.
Your meme is so true…if not for running, I may go insane.
Debbie says
That must have been so scary! Like it’s not bad enough to have to go to the ER any time, but add on Covid and it’s even worse. II hope his recovery goes well, it sounds really painful. The great workout meme is hilarious and so, well, male! As my husband said after he fell running last week, “if the bone ain’t showing you gotta keep going!”
Laetitia Brock says
OMD, I’m sorry you (the caveman) had to make a trip to the ER…
Jenn says
Oh my gosh! Your poor husband! It’s awful enough to have to go to the ER, but especially now. Sending lots of hugs and good thoughts to him and you. <3
I've never gotten hurt in the gym, but I did fall down stairs, so that's not saying much LOL. I also stepped in the hole in my yard with my bad leg today, so that was super fun. I need to be supervised at all times, clearly.
Things are really easing up around here. Salons and barbershops opened today! You couldn't pay me enough to visit one at this point, but I know people are so excited. I'm ok with beaches and the zoo and places like that being open, but that's where my comfort zone ends.
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
Sorry to hear about the Caveman, that sounds rough! We had a quick cold snap but then I saw it’ll be up to 80 degrees in Philly by this weekend, go figure! Apparently Bucks County, just outside of Philly, is trying to get out of staying under the Governor’s Stay at Home Order, but otherwise, we’re riding this out at least until June 4…
Jennifer @ Fit Nana says
Oh MAN! That had to hurt!! I can’t even imagine what that felt like!! I might sympathy puke if I gave it too much thought.
I get the whole COVID-19 thing but not being allowed in the ER with him, and staying out in the car, is just so frustrating. At least he’s an adult. Could you imagine having to do that with a child (adolescent or teen, I would certainly hope parents would be allowed in with small children)? GAH!
I guess, technically, my meniscus fully detached while I was in the gym. It was definitely injured before (I can recommend a PT NOT to go to down here) and I probably should have been more careful. You could hear the POP over the music, and if you’re familiar with CrossFit gyms, you know how loud that music can be. Luckily, it didn’t hurt. Sounded way worse than it was. Took several months for surgery but that’s a whole different story.
Zenaida Arroyo says
That sounds painful! Did you wait a long time for your husband in the car? Regardless that must have been a horrible experience for the both of you. I hope he is doing better.
