I suppose we’re paying for our mild winter because this week was COLD. And snowy. Not words I typically associate with April but hey if we can have a pandemic, we can most certainly have snow. Before I tell you about the South Africa thing, here’s how this week’s workouts went:
Monday: Rest
Tuesday: 5 miles + yoga
Wednesday: Strength, Balance, Mobility
Thursday: Run 5 miles trail run + trauma yoga
Friday: Run 2 miles + Plyo Intervals
Saturday: Run 7 miles
Sunday: Heavy Strength
Mom Nature may be bipolar but her work sure is pretty.
On the fitness front, it was another solid week. I think having two yoga sessions back in my schedule is helping me both mentally and with my range of motion, which in turn is helping me to run faster naturally.
School is officially going to be remote for the rest of the school year and summer school will be conducted remotely as well. That comes as no surprise, but I am wistful, especially for my 8th grader. No graduation, no class trip. No final band concert. The calendar reminder for my trip to Atlanta popped up as well. I was supposed to spend a few days with Thing 1 at her sorority’s mother/daughter weekend. Sigh. My heart breaks for the high school and college seniors.
My dad was released from the hospital on Saturday. Fingers crossed, he’ll do okay at home, with nursing care and regular visits from both a Physical Therapist and Occupational Therapist.
Marcia’s Healthy Slice is on YouTube. Since all of my coaching is done virtually these days, and everyone wants workouts they can do at home, I decided to bite the bullet and take my pony show over to YouTube. It’s in the very early stages of development, but it’s going to be a place for workouts, running tips, recipes and other “old lady” fun. I’d love it if you’d head over, give the videos a thumbs up, and subscribe. Please and thank you!
Running to South Africa
Balega Ambassador Team Runs to South Africa. That’s right, our team, made up of runners from North America, the United Kingdom and South Africa, is virtually covering the 7,901 miles from Balega’s North American Headquarters in North Carolina to their headquarters in Cape Town, South Africa. What I love most about Balega, besides the fact that they make the BEST SOCKS EVER, is that they give back to the community. Please make a donation here to the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund. Whether or not you donate, use BALEGATHANKSYOU to get a free pair of socks when you buy 3.
Snagged the World Marathon Majors 6th Star in London in my Spandits! Boardies

Join me this Friday for the Runfession Friday Linkup! I promise your body and soles will thank you!
How was your week? Is school staying remote through summer where you are? Are you racing virtually?
I’m linking up with Kim and Deborah for the Weekly Run Down. Join us!

I’m really excited for you and the YouTube channel. One silver lining from this pandemic is that we are being forced to do things differently! I’m hoping that the telemedicine thing becomes an actual thing for me. I’m more than a little anxious about returning to work until they come out with a vaccine. I’m glad that we have some new options for a lot of things.
I need those socks, although graceful isn’t a word normally used to describe me! LOL
Beckett @ Birchwood Pie says
I just finished my virtual race series yesterday and I never expected to love it so much. I love the idea of “running” to South Africa.

Hoping all goes well for your father. Thinking of you all the time <3 Our governor announced Friday that all schools are closed for the school year (not a surprise), but all the on'line stuff will continue. I am really sad for all the seniors (HS and college). Last night would have been prom here. Although I'm finally out of that loop, I can't imagine the sadness for all the girls (and, who am I kidding, all their moms LOL).Onward!! We will all get through this.
TechChick says
Glad your father is out and I hope all goes well! They haven’t announced our schools to be closed for the year yet, but I think the announcement is coming soon. The Africa project sounds great. Balega’s are my favorite socks!
Cari says
I’m personally loving your YouTube channel because your videos this week were basically my personal needs. So cool re Balega. Will definitely donate.
Your London Spanits pattern is so fun and bright.
Keeping your dad in my thoughts. xx

Thanks for the code for the extra pair of socks! I love Ballegas. What a cool goal to run to South Africa!
Love the pic with your 6 star medal, what an accomplishment 🙂

When you subscribed to my channel, I was surprised, but I just assumed you must’ve had a channel for a while! I will head over there & subscribe!
My nephew is a HS senior. They don’t know what they want to do about college next year now.
Even worse are my late 20s nieces who are now living back at home.
Good luck with your father. I really hope that he can stay where he is!
Deborah Brooks says
Just signed up for your YouTube channel and look forward to seeing more of your exercises. Something I have thought about doing but not done. Your hips one reminded me I need to get back on those! I need to try Spandits I do love colorful prints. Thanks for joining us and see you at the Runfessions

Love that you have a Youtube channel! I just went over to subscribe to your channel and view videos! 🙂
My heart also breaks for all the 8th graders, high school and college seniors 🙁 Is there any talk of possibly doing a late summer (August) graduation? I know that has been discussed here but don’t believe anything has been finalized.
Continuing to keep your dad in my prayers and so happy to hear that he was released home yesterday.
Laurie says
Glad to hear your dad was released from the hospital. That must be such a relief for you! Lots of good news from you – I love the Running to South Africa concept. Balega is the only brand of socks I wear to run. They are so comfortable!
Michelle D. says
Continued good thoughts to you dad.
My 8th grader is more than a little bummed to see all of the fun middle school graduation stuff slip away. 🙁
I’m psyched to check out your YouTube channel! And, love the idea of the South Africa run!
angela @ happy fit mama says
Our Governor made the call on Thursday that school is remote learning for the remainder of the year. Not a big surprise but I’m super bummed for my kids. It was their last year at their school before they move on to the BIG middle school. They won’t have a 4th grade graduation ceremony or any of the other fun stuff they usually get to do before moving on. And the summer is still a big question mark with camps but I have a feeling that those won’t happen either. I mean…how can they?
Coco says
Good news on your father. I hope he stays healthy and gets stronger. Cool on the YouTube channel, I don’t spend much time over there, but I I do follow the links from you FB page. Yay on the Spandits, but they’d be crazy not to have you as an ambassador again. Bummer on the school year, but at this point it’s probably too complicated to open everything up again.
Darlene S. Cardillo says
Congrats on your channel. I need to check it out.
Balegas are my favorite sock too.
Did a virtual half today. It sucked.
I’m over it. On to the next.
Catrina says
I love Balega socks, too! What I especially like is that they always have a personal story of one of their South African workers on every pair of socks. They’re going through a rough time right now with the pandemic, I don’t even want to think about what is going on in the townships right now. Thank you for supporting the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund!
And of course, congrats for starting up on YouTube!
Black Knight says
Congrats on your channel and thank you for supporting the covid-19 solidarity response fund.
No virtual races around here. However I couldn’t enter a virtual event because my treadmill is broken and I don’t succeed in buying a new one.
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
Our schools are closed through May 15th as of right now. I’m sure they will be closed for the rest of the year but I get the sense that they want to have a (better) plan in place and do things incrementally. One of my main roles is to plan trainings, most of which take place in the summer, and right now I have no idea what that will look like. Totally agree that its heartbreaking for the seniors who are missing out on so many important milestones.
Sounds like you have alot of great things going on! Its crazy that so many places had snow this week.
Glad your dad is home and I hope he does well with some help!
fairytales and fitness says
I hope things go well for your father.
Congrats on the Youtube Channel! I rarely check out youtube, unless I need to figure out a tech problem…haha, but I will certainly check out your channel!
Yup, our schools here are closed and we will be doing online learning for the remainder of the school year.
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
Great week of working out! I keep saying I’m going to do more yoga and then I don’t…ugh! I subscribed to your channel!
Zenaida Arroyo says
I am loving my Balega socks too! That is interesting about summer school being remotely. Excited about your YouTube channel. I subscribed to it too. Ugh on the snow. I did not like it one bit but at least it was gone in the afternoon.

:hugs: I am thinking about your dad and I am so sorry for your 8th grader. Little man’s 6th grade trip got in right before the shut down (to Sea World, no less), so we lucked out. He will only miss the all-school dance for the rest of the year, so we are lucky in that way. These kids have had it so rough and it breaks my heart.
I can’t wait to check out your YouTube Channel. I got rained out of my first Cto5K this morning, so I did Level 1 of 30 Day Shred (just because I remembered it being a good workout) and I was able to JUMP!!! So maybe I am strong enough to do some different things!
