Greetings again from isolation. While this is probably the closest many of us have come to the zombie apocalypse, the Runfessional must open. It’s a socially distant activity after all, not to mention essential. I’m also linking up with Meranda and Lacey for Friday Five. Let’s get started, shall we?
I runfess that although I notice SO much less traffic and noise, the cars that do pass on the main road near us seem to drive generally much faster than before, and the speed limit is already 45mph. The other morning I heard a loud bang with lots of skidding after. I wondered why the skidding would not have taken place BEFORE the crash. And what do you hit when there’s no traffic? Later on I noticed a deer carcass on the roadside. While I feel bad for the deer, I can’t help but think THIS IS WHAT YOU GET, PEOPLE!
I runfess I’ve been sloppy with my hashtags lately. Case in point: #instarubbers. Maybe this is why creepy men message me.
I told you recently how thrilled I was that the kids were taking the initiative to work out in our pain cave. Um yeah that was until I heard a shrill squeak coming from the treadmill belt. Upon further investigation it appears said belt has shifted off to one side. I haven’t even run on the treadmill in weeks. I runfess my treadmill will be turning 20 years old soon. If it were a person it’d be in the highest risk group for Corona, but it still ticks me off that someone had to go and wreck it.
Marathon Tours put together some really kickass fall marathon packages. While we’re all familiar with 2fer challenges like Boston to Big Sur and London to Paris, with so many spring races pushed to fall, now there’s the possibility of 5fers. The email I got mentioned banging out Berlin, Prague, Loch Ness, Paris, and Dublin consecutively. I runfess though, after Berlin was canceled, I suspect it is likely none of those races will happen in 2020.
Not going anywhere near the pain cave ever again.
If you’ve joined me for one of the ZOOMA online challenges, you’ve likely seen Ozzy “helping out” on some of the workout videos. He’d become a viewer favorite….until the unthinkable happened. I runfess I was going about the workout as I usually do, when Ozzy decided he’d participate with utmost enthusiasm as he usually does. However, someone’s tail managed to get beneath someone’s sneaker-clad foot. Said tail was stomped on, inadvertently of course. A certain tail owner howled in agony. A certain accidental stomper tried in vain to remove her foot from said tail. Shrieking and cursing ensued. All was captured on video. I runfess I fear if I shared the footage here PETA would come after me. Is it any wonder Ozzy will no longer enter the pain cave?
Your turn: What have you to runfess? Are you signing up for fall races?
Angie @ Planted says
#instarubbers… I died with this! LOL. Don’t encourage the creeps on social media 😉 And poor Ozzie, I’ve done that to Riley and it seems the quicker I try to lift my foot, the longer and more painful it is! Oy.
Thanks for hosting! It’s been a while since I was able to participate. So I am glad I added it to my calendar to remember!
Beckett @ Birchwood Pie says
I hate to be a pessimist, but I don’t have a good feeling about fall races. A major August race where I live was cancelled this week and the town is saying no gatherings over 250 people for the rest of the year so things aren’t looking good.
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
My treadmill belt needs waxing and I watched a YouTube video and it seems pretty straight forward on how to loosen the belt to apply the wax under it. I wonder if you could loosen the belt to realign it. It’s seems like it would be worth a try!
Poor Ozzy – I hope he’s feeling better.
Thanks for the linkup!
Kimberly Hatting says
Oh, poor Ozzy!!!!! I’m sure he still loves you (maybe not your sneakers LOL). I get so many creepers on Insta…I don’t even check out their profiles. I am liking the limited traffic (which wasn’t that bad before all the COVID stuff)…but the fewer cars are definitely driving faster, and sliding through stops. NOT good.
Catrina says
Poor Ozzy! That must have been hilarious to watch!
Shame about your treadmill – it’s a good thing this happened now, at least you have good weather to run outside.
I don’t think any large-scale events will happen until there’s a vaccine. And that could take a bit of time… I’m thinking 2021. In the meantime, you’re doing well at keeping fit and healthy!
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
Oh, poor Ozzy! I’m sure he’ll be back when the memory fades, dogs are like that! Lola likes to follow us down the stairs, in general I think so she doesn’t get stepped on. And Bandit has a tendency to walk in front of us on walks, and I keep warning him he’s going to get kicked — and he does, occasionally. But the squeal that cats do when you step on their tail . .
My treadmill is also turning 20, just like my car! Thankfully it still works. Or at least I assume it does, I haven’t been on it in a long time.I am the sole proprietor of it, though.
Coco says
Oh, poor Ozzie! The treadmill issue may be fixable if it’s not too far gone. I think you are supposed to check/align the belt once in a while — not that I’ve done that with mine. I’m wary of let my husband near it with his tools because right now it ain’t broke …. I really can’t imagine lining up to race with thousands of other runners, let alone traveling to get to all those races.
Wendy says
LOL, #instarubbers! I blame my big old lady arthritic thumbs for any hashtag errors. I dropped my laptop this week and now the shift button doesn’t work, so capitals don’t always happen either, lol.
Cocoa wouldn’t let a little pain stop her from her duty of licking the weight plates! I’m sure Ozzy will return. He can’t be without his mama!
Darlene says
I have two cats but no pain cave. Poor Ozzy.
I wonder too if any races will happen. NYC just cancelled the Mini 10k.
This will be a year to remember but not in a good way.
Deborah Brooks says
While I was on one of my walks last week, not 1 but 2 cars came flying around the corner and almost took me out. People are driving like lunatics! maybe they heard that toiled paper was back in stock at the grocery store! I sure hope that the fall races will still go on! Thanks for the Runfessional always fun
Michelle D. says
Ok that #instarubbers will keep me giggling the rest of the day!
Poor Ozzy! Hopefully, he’ll be back on his coaching duties in the pain cave soon!
The roads have turned into the wild, wild, west – it’s crazier than usual out there.
Vanessa Junkin says
Running on roads for all my runs (and not at the local park where I often run), I’ve noticed that some cars don’t even seem to be giving the six feet of social distancing space! I’m thinking maybe smaller races might be able to happen in the fall, but I worry about larger ones. I signed up for the Philadelphia Marathon (which is in November 2020) at the end of 2019. Trying to be hopeful, but I also want to be safe.
Jennifer @ Fit Nana says
OMG. LOL at that hashtag!!! I screw mine up sometimes but I don’t think I’ve ever done anything that spectacular.
How was there no skidding BEFORE hitting the deer? Oh wait, probably texting. Sometimes, I really hate people. :/ I live on a busy road with the police station about a block away so, while people sometimes drive fast, 35 is the speed limit and that’s where they stay. It’s the neighborhood streets BEHIND my house that can get dangerous. Speed limit is 25 and I swear some people drive back there so they can speed past all the businesses on the main road. Again, at times my relationship with people is tenuous, at best.
Poor Ozzy! Rigby’s been interested in what I’m doing in the garage but the loud weights hitting the floor usually sends him running so I haven’t had to worry too much about him. lol
Laurie says
Awww…poor Ozzy! Maybe it’s for the best if he doesn’t enter the pain cave anymore. My dog Benji follows me everywhere I go. I even have to lock the bathroom door to get some alone time to pee! I have been drooling over some of Marathon Tours’ trips for this fall and next year – Madagascar Marathon, anyone? But I am afraid to sign up for anything right now with all the uncertainty of whether travel is allowed.
Kim G says
OMG that typo for #instarubbers just made me LOL. Thanks for that laugh – I really needed it today!
Awwe..poor Ozzy! I’m sure you were both totally traumatized by that but I bet he won’t come near the pain cave for a while. Sorry to hear about your treadmill 🙁 I know it’s 20 years old, but doo you think it’s something that can be replaced/fixed? Or might you search for a new one?
Katie says
My treadmill is super-easy to fix when the belt goes off-center… I just take an Allen wrench and there’s a hole in the side by the belt, and you crank it and you can see the belt re-centering. Not sure if yours is the same but check and see if there’s an Allen-wrench type hole in the side and you might have it fixed in 2 minutes! My treadmill is also very old.
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
These drivers out here are crazy! People are not minding speed limits and have no consideration for pedestrians…it’s the worst.
I hope you can fix your treadmill!
I’m a little worried about the fall races…I heard about Berlin and now I’m wondering if any more marathons will end up canceled. I saw Chicago has the option to opt out of 2020. I’m planning to run the Philly half but for now just keeping my fingers crossed!
Jenn says
Poor Ozzy!
Guess who’s signed up for the 12K at Amelia Island? This girl! I wanted to do the Seaside Challenge, but it wasn’t offered as part of the rewards I had earned, so i might have to figure out if I can upgrade.
MCM Mama says
I runfess I’ve been not running on my treadmill because I need it to be there for me when I have no choice. This has resulted in some crazy loops but I’ve managed to get it done.
I agree that it’s likely that many of the large fall races will be cancelled. I have my fingers crossed that smaller, local races can still happen…
Cari says
Poor Ozzy. Must have been the week for that. My friend’s furball also accidentally got underfoot this week. Luckily just scared but otherwise OK too
Creepy old men need to knock it off. So much of it lately and I do not get how their ROI is worth it.
Irma says
Pain cave and instarubbers…if I didn’t know this was a running blog… ;-D I’m so annoyed with cars right now as well! I’ve also noticed an increase in sports cars and large SUVs in our area when I’ve been out running who don’t understand the concept of “speed limit”. I am thankful for the warmer weather to run outside though it makes me miss my running group even more!
