The Coronavirus crazy train continues on down the track. Here in Illinois we are sheltering in place, which really is no different from what our family unit had already been doing, except now the Caveman needs to work at home too. I am more than happy to do whatever will stop this awful virus from spreading. Thankfully the running and workouts continue and I am ever so grateful for the stress relief. Here’s what went down:
Monday: Rest
Tuesday: Trail Run 4 miles
Wednesday: Rest (took my dad home from nursing care)
Thursday: Trail Run 4 miles
Friday: Strength, Balance, Mobility; Yoga with Adriene
Saturday: Trail Run 5 miles
Sunday: Heavy Strength
It snowed lightly during this run but it was still amazing
I should’ve called out my Garmin sooner because this week I was treated to three stellar runs. While I am honoring my commitment to keeping the miles short, each run felt eerily strong and effortless, yet was significantly faster than my usual pace. This week Garmin raised my VO2Max and proclaimed my workouts to be “productive”. Alrighty then.
Despite the world being turned upside down, nature goes on, business as usual. Although we’ve got nothing close to blooming yet here, there are buds and the birds and squirrels are busy. I even heard the call of the cricket frog.
My dad is home. I’m relieved he is out of the extended care facility for coronavirus risk reasons, but he’s not as strong as I’d hoped and I’m praying he can hold his own, especially at a time when hospitals/medical personnel are overwhelmed.
I love having the kids home, although I know they miss their friends. Thing 1 will start remote learning this week. Thing 2 is doing remote music lessons and will start remote school next week. My heart breaks for the seniors whose trips, proms and graduations are canceled. At this point I am doubtful Thing 2’s 8th grade graduation will happen.
I’ve been cooking a lot and doing my best to limit my visits to the grocery store to once a week. I made batches of my Mexican Hot Chocolate Protein Bites and my Cinnamon Crunch Protein Bites.
ZOOMA Fitter Stronger Faster Challenge gets underway on 3/23 and I’m so looking forward to coaching it. Due to the circumstances, we opened the workout and Facebook group portion of the challenge to everyone (including you) FREE. Learn more and register here. If you want the swag, register with SPRINGBREAK to save 15%. I designed this challenge to be a Conditioning Plan that will work with any training plan you’re already using. It includes strength exercises, form and agility drills, and simple speed workouts. With 1000+ participants, this is our largest group ever. With all of us practicing social distancing, I’m hoping this group will be a great way to connect as well as a source of encouragement and moral support at a challenging time.
When worries start to creep in I especially love these words of wisdom from my friend Eckhart Tolle
How was your week? How are you coping with our “new normal”? What do you fear or worry about? What are you focusing on?
Join me this Friday for the Runfession Friday Linkup! I promise you’ll feel better!
I’m linking up with Kim and Deborah for the Weekly Run Down. Join us!

I’m amazed too, how nature just carries on as usual while our world is crashing around us. At any rate, it’s very calming to see.
I hope all goes well with your dad. It must be very worrying for you.
Your Zooma challenge sounds great! Nice that you made it available for free! I’m sure many will be inspired by it.

It’s nice to see green returning to our world and I love listening to the birds. It’s been interesing navigating between the positive and trying to avoid the people (my sister) who is just so upset about theinconvenience this has brought into her life. Glad your dad is holding is own.
That’s great that ZOOMA challenge is so successful! Perfect timing.

Exactly – if staying at home will help, I’m more than happy to do it. Shelter in place isn’t mandatory yet, but frankly it will be soon and we’re on board. My stepsons are delighted at not having to go to school and at getting extra screen time to chat with their friends.

It’s great that your dad is home. I hope he continues to get stronger!
I love the quote from Tolle. I have one of his books on the shelf and have been thinking now might be a good time to re-read it.

Somewhere in the midst of this week I realized I’d stopped writing down my 3 things I’m grateful for each night. Weird, because in general I’m not *too* freaked out. I got back at it.
I do worry about my mom. I hope your Dad weathers this storm. I must admit I’m grateful now that my Dad is gone, because had he been alive it would have been more of a nightmare than it already was (and it was a nightmare!).
I think it’s hardest on the kids. 🙁

Have you shared those Mexican hot chocolate protein bites before? Gosh, they look like a little piece (bite?) of heaven. Our biggest concern is our son’s well-being…he spent a week in Florida with a few friends. Thankfully, they drove down (and back), and were cautious while there, but still. He’s being quarantined in the basement, and everything is getting washed and sanitized. He’s moving into his condo this week, so we also have that on tap. Thinking of you and your father….

We were talking this morning how ironic it is that everything is blooming and green at the same time everyone is sick. It’s so odd. I am glad that your trail runs are giving you a great escape mentally. The Zooma challenge sounds great how fantastic to have so many people on board. Thanks for linking up and have a good week

Those protein bites sound great!
I’m sure this period is so hard on kids…especially the young ones who don’t understand why they can’t go play 🙁

It has certainly been a super crazy week! I’ve been trying to get in good quality workouts while I’m working from home. We’re not “shelter in place” yet but it’s coming.
So glad to hear that your dad is back home. That’s wonderful news!
Those mexican hot chocolate bites look so good!

You are lucky to have your kids home. Mine are all on their own and I miss them and seeing my grandkids! We are sheltering in place too but we do leave home to go for a run.
Love that Eckhard Tolle quote! 🙂

I am so sad for all the kids. Little man didn’t have anything important going on this year (he had his moving up ceremony this year and his grade trip happened already), but all the students who will not a ceremony, or graduation or prom or trip, or get to finish their sports or other activities. It breaks my heart.
Kids are resilient and will be ok, but it’s just not how it should be. <3
These are truly the strangest of days.

So glad to hear you were able to bring your dad home. Fingers, toes crossed he can remain healthy.
I signed up for Zooma. Need to go read the instructions. Social community is so key right now. Glad your Garmin decided to quit being mean to you.
Those Mexican hot chocolate bites look AMAZEBALLS

All our daffodils are in full bloom now, but we still are having temperature swings. Glad your Garmin is showing you some respect! I hope your dad continues to get stronger.
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
I am also trying to focus on the positive things right now. It can be so overwhelming to think about how bad this has gotten and how long it will go on for. I’m glad your dad was able to get out of his facility and i hope he stays healthy!
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
I hope your Dad (and everyone!) stays healthy! It’s hard to ignore the negative buzz which is causing anxiety, and just get the updates I need about the virus situation. I even saw someone on FB complaining that a Stay At Home order was violating his rights. Really? Ugh.
Darlene S Cardillo says
The new normal is not fun. I’m trying to stay active. It is challenging now that winter weather has returned.
I and everyone I know is healthy…that is the good news.
