Welp, here we are, sitting down for the final Coffee Date of 2019. Is it just me or was 2019 the fastest year yet? Pull up a chair and let’s get started. I’m linking up with Deborah and Coco.
Over coffee I’d tell you I got new “long run” shoes. My old pair had two marathons on them so I figured it was time…ya think?…even though I haven’t done a long run since maybe spring.
They’re a newer version of the Asics Gel-Nimbus and they’re definitely different through the toe box. I’ve only run a few miles in them so far but let’s just say the jury is still out.
Over coffee I’d tell you I ended up NOT entering the Chicago Marathon lottery. It would’ve been cool to have the 2010 and 2020 medals but other than that, I couldn’t think of a single reason why I’d want to slog through a summer of marathon training. My daughter’s comment “why would you run Chicago again when there are so many other marathons you haven’t run?” may have helped keep me from hitting the enter button. Speaking of other marathons, a few friends have put some other races on the table for consideration. Gotta love running friends who start a sentence with “Hey why don’t we….” It is a special kind of crazy and I wouldn’t have it any other way. It sure beats the people who say “Aren’t you old to be running marathons?”
Over coffee I’d tell you the college daughter will be home for winter break next week and I couldn’t be happier. Her first semester flew…for me anyway. We’ve got snow and single-digit temps in the forecast before she gets in though so I hope that does not throw any kinks in her flight plans.
Over coffee I’d tell you we’re not traveling over the holidays. No, instead we’re helping the college daughter with apartment arrangements for the 2020/21 school year, figuring out study abroad stuff and wading through Thing 2’s music opportunities for next summer. Time to go out and shake that money tree. Hard.
Over coffee I’d tell you the ZOOMA Women’s Race Series (which I work for) has THREE half marathons in the 2020 Bib Rave top 20. ZOOMA Amelia Island and ZOOMA Cape Cod won for Best Half Marathon. ZOOMA Amelia Island and ZOOMA Texas Wine Country won for Best Medal/Swag. How cool is that? ZOOMA’s complete 2020 race calendar comes out on January 1 so stay tuned!
What would you tell me over coffee? Any holiday travel plans? Big races for 2020?
I’m linking up with Lacey and Meranda for Friday Five.

You sure have a lot of good stuff happening! It’s been fun to see everything really pop for you this year. Enjoy the holidays and let’s plan something for 2020!

Oh, gosh, my daughter’s first semester ended with snowmaggedon. She technically took her last final but mentally was already heading to the airport to get home. Then she was stuck in the house with us for a few days until our street got plowed! I’m sure your daughter’s trip home will be smoother!

Friends actually invited us down to TX over the holidays, but alas, no affordable flights could be found at this late date. 🙁 Unless something shows up in the next couple of weeks — I was totally ready to do it!
There are definitely many marathons out there for you, & I bet you’ll pick something wonderful.

It is fabulous when the college kids come home for a few weeks. We are headed out of town for Christmas week again and I am looking forward to unplugging and relaxing with everyone. I need to do another Zooma run soon! That was my first half years ago when they had one in Annapolis. Thanks for linking up!
Catrina says
Yes, why do a marathon twice if there’s so many others to try out?
Congrats on winning the top places with the ZOOMA Women’s Race Series! That must be very satisfying.
And yes, we’re travelling to Switzerland, so I am looking forward to that!

I have never done a ZOOMA race. They sound awesome and are at very appealing destinations. Hmmm…
I am with your daughter. So many races, so little time. I have only done one marathon twice (after I vowed never to repeat), MCM.
Have fun with your college daughter. I was always beside myself with anticipation when my college-age kids came home for the holidays.

Well, my season and year has come to a bit of a crashing halt, so I’ve got literally nothing planned. In my head, I’ve got ideas, but I guess we just have to see how my surgery and recovery goes.
Love your new shoes! Hope they carry you fast and far!
Denise says
That Zooma Cape Cod Half sounds like a bucket list run. After April I’m not sure when I’ll make it back to New England.
I agree with your daughter…there are so many races, why repeat.
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Hopefully, your daughter’s travel home will be uneventful! Enjoy having her home 🙂

My thoughts exactly on repeating marathons (though I have run Grandma’s twice & am considering going back again LOL). This year has really flown by, even with all the weird weather it brought along. I got one of my new Black Friday shoes this week, and have already christened them. Second pair is arriving tomorrow, I believe 🙂

I love your new sneakers – so pretty 🙂
I can’t imagine how thrilled you must be to have your daughter coming home for Winter break. I hope that it’s a super fun time for all of you!
Farrah says
Ooo, I hope you all have fun together as a family! That’s awesome that she’ll be studying abroad! I really wanted to do that while I was in college but didn’t have enough time. :[ (My original plan was to graduate a year early so I could use the would-be money for senior year’s tuition to go, but I figured doing my junior and senior recital in the same year while trying to double major would be pretty rough, haha.) Best of luck with the planning!

I bet you will be happy to have a full house again! You probably don’t mind not traveling and being able to savor the at home time with your family!
I have not thought about any races for 2020 but I am hoping I get to do more than I did this year. You are right. The year flew by quick but I am thinking the older we get the faster the years go! -M
