Ah Thanksgiving week! It was a great one filled with family, relaxation and a welcome break in flute concierge duties. Since my last Rundown, Thing 1 has flown in and back to college again, but we made the most of our fourish days with her. I don’t bother with tallying my mileage for the month because who cares? But here’s how my workouts went:
Monday: Rest
Tuesday: 3 mile Trail Run
Wednesday: Strength
Thursday: 5k Turkey Trot
Friday: Rest
Saturday: 4 mile Treadmill Run
Sunday: Strength + Tabata
The funky knee issue that I told you about here, continues to assert itself on and off. While it doesn’t seem to affect my running, I’m definitely on high alert for any pain or instability. It seems like there’s something (a tendon??) on the inner side of my knee causing it. It can feel perfect but the other day I was crouching down cleaning and that seemed to aggravate it all over again. Then it vanished as quickly as it appeared.
Despite our group being about half the size as usual. Thanksgiving dinner was very nice.
My grain-free (autoimmune Paleo) stuffing was met with some reticence but everyone loved it once they tasted it. While it was mostly a bunch of veggies, the thyme and sage seasoning gave it great stuffing-like flavor, so it’s all good, not to mention very healthy.

With the holiday, I had time to catch up on some Netflix and the like:
Brittany Runs a Marathon. We finally saw it and as soon as it ended I fought the urge to enter the Chicago Marathon lottery. It was so inspiring and a great reminder, even to us “well-seasoned” runners, just how life changing (mentally, physically, spiritually) running a marathon is.
Bikram: Yogi, Guru, Predator. Certainly I’ve been familiar with Bikram “hot” yoga for years, but I knew nothing about its founder. This Netflix documentary paints a very disturbing yet thought provoking picture of Bikram Choudhury.
Lindsey Vonn: The Final Season. This HBO Original documentary is a very real and raw depiction of the circumstances leading up to her retirement from ski racing. Especially in sports where we’re taught to “Never Give Up” how do we know when it’s time to say when?

Thanksgiving Eve marks the end of another delicious year of Greg’s Frozen Custard as it’s now closed until spring. Greg’s is iconic in these parts. Last year we waited in the crazy line for one last custard when the woman in front of us bought everything he had left. That wasn’t going to happen again so this year I headed over early in the day and got myself a pint. Let’s see how long that pint lasts in the freezer.
Besides Thanksgiving dinner, we’ve eaten out every single night this week. It’s fun to an extent and then it get ridiculous. Tis the season, I guess.
How was your week? Did you turkey trot? Does anything near you close for the winter?
I’m linking up with Kim and Deborah for the Weekly Run Down. Join us!

Yes. All my outdoor ice cream haunts have closed.
I ran two turkey trots. Even though I have this annoying ball of foot pain.
Now what?
Deborah Brooks says
Ooh thanks for reminding me that I wanted to watch the Bikram movie. I have read a few disturbing things over the years. Glad you had a great Thanksgiving. It’s so nice to have all the kiddos under one roof even if it is only for a short time

Your grain-free stuffing looks great!
Yes, I ran a 5k Turkey Trot and it was such great fun. I love short races. 😊

Our local ice cream place closes earlier in November. There are many ice cream places here, and people hotly debate which is the best. We don’t go all that often, and I’m not that much into ice cream when it’s cold out (but it was good on top of the hot apple pie on Thanksgiving).
I never care about monthly mileage, although Strava sends me the deets (even though I haven’t used it in ages).
If it’s not high fat and high sugar, I can get the side eye from family. Of course it wasn’t at my parents this year.
Thanks for sharing the documentaries. Wish I had HBO, I love Lindsey Vonn.

Our local ice cream place closes for the season at the end of October, but this year they “re-opened” for the week prior to Thanksgiving. What the WHAT??? Our youngest daughter worked there for 3 (4?) years, so we know all the good eats there LOL…but I resisted and did not make one last trip there last week. Not one. Of course I trotted, it’s the thing LOL Glad you had a good time with the college daughter home 🙂

Jealous that you’ve seen all 3 of the movies/documentaries I have on my wish list. We’re still stuck in football season and on our ‘off nights’ lol, it’s a thing, we’re watching Schitt’s Creek. Hilarious.
Hell yes I Turkey Trotted! Pretty excited about how well it went, although I am very sore today. I realized over the past month that my body is not happy with high miles. Glad to cut back for a while. Oh, and your comment made me look up my miles for this month. It was my second highest of the year with 82. Hard to believe this is where we are at now, isn’t it?

I started watching the Bikram documentary and then stopped because I thought Ron might want to watch as well! I had NO IDEA about the founder!
Our most famous ice cream shop in Arnhem, Trio, actually closed already at the end of October. From the time they open in March until end of October there is almost always a queue out the door. We think Berna’s down the street is just as good and there’s never a line so we go there. Rebels!
glad you had a good thanksgiving! your stuffing looks good – sweet potato?
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
So glad your daughter made it in and out safely! Travel can be a real challenge at this time of year.
I still haven’t seen Brittany Runs a Marathon, but want to. I’m a big Vonn fan so I will have to take some time to catch that documentary.

We did the same thing when our favorite ice cream place closed down for the season at the end of October. We bought 2 pints and neither lasted more than 2 weeks. It’s so dang good!

I loved Britney Runs a Marathon. Really heart warming! Yes, marathons change our lives.
Thanks for the documentary recommendation too!

It sounds like the key to your knee issue is to stop cleaning. 😉 I do hope it goes away without getting worse. Are there a lot of holiday concerts you’ll be concierge for? It’s the season!
Kim G says
I’m glad that your grain free stuffing was a success – it looks really yummy!
I watched Brittany Runs a Marathon last weekend and really enjoyed it as well. While if didn’t make me want to run another marathon (I’m still on retirement, lol), it did make me want to train harder. She really went through a great journey!
Beckett @ Birchwood Pie says
I loved Brittany Runs a Marathon. I hadn’t heard of the Lindsay Vonn doc, but it sounds good, I’ll have to check it out.

I also saw and loved Brittany Runs a Marathon. Made me more excited to run the NYC Marathon (crossing my fingers I get in).

We started watching Brittany Runs a Marathon and of course I passed out about 20 minutes into it and my husband and mom saw the whole thing. They both liked it, surprisingly enough. My mom said she didn’t expect it to be not just about running. I’ll have to queue it up for myself again. Mrs. Maisels is starting up again this week, so that will be our new indulgence. We also have a small local ice cream shop that closes for the season, but we don’t go much these days anyway. I thought for a second you said you DID sign up for Chicago – then I reread. My son and I will be there again this year.
