This week found me scrambling. Scrambling with a crescendo of flute concierge duties and work before the holidays. Then there was drama. The kind of drama that makes this runner head for the trails for refuge. Thank God for running and nature and endorphins.

I won’t go into the neighborhood and extended-family related drama, other than to say it was hurtful and tough to move-on from, but I’m trying to learn from it and let it go. All the holiday-related unhealthy food (delicious though) likely contributed to my bad mood, but let’s just say I needed to burn off the crazy, and burn I did. Ozzy was a very happy running buddy.
Other than a day or two where it was chilly, our week of weather was unseasonably mild and dry. Perfect for running! We won’t have a white Christmas but I’m over it. I love that we’re at the solstice and days are getting longer.

Family Time. A birthday near the holidays is kind of overkill at an already festive time. But one very wonderful benefit is having everyone home together to celebrate. I am treasuring having our college daughter home, even if she’s freezing because her blood has been thinned by mild Atlanta weather. It’ll feel like she’s on vacation when she heads back down South. Haha!
Unexpected Surprises. None other than this pair of Nike Vaporflys (among other goodies) showed up for my birthday. These are the ones the elites are wearing and running so fast in. Certainly I’d never in a million years have gotten these for myself. Before I opened them I couldn’t even imagine shoes were in the box, that’s how light they are. Is this the universe’s way of telling me to pick up the pace? I’ve only run in them once so far but I will say they feel like no other running shoe I’ve tried. Stay tuned for a full review.

Came this close to being hit by a car. In the crosswalk in front of Target no less. You probably know the area well: Stop signs on each side of that large, striped crossing area. I was proceeding as normal, pushing a highly visible giant red shopping cart, and was already more than halfway across when the car from the right decided he’d roll on through. I had to jump back as he hit my cart. He was on the phone and did nothing more than give me a stony glare as I shouted WTF??
Downton Abbey, the movie. I was so excited to watch this as I never watched the series. I figured it’d be great. Maybe it was but I found it so dry and slow to develop, I fell asleep then was totally lost. Oh well.
Join me this Friday for the FINAL Runfession Friday Linkup of the DECADE!

Sounds like a tough week! Thank goodness for running. I almost got hit in the crosswalk in our neighborhood this week. Drivers are out of control.
Enjoy your family and don’t let the haters get under your skin! <3

You got VAPORFLYS!!!! You must let us know how it feels to run in them, I’m really curious if they’re different.
Oh, extended-family-related drama is always tough. But on the bright side, you have your kids all back home and can enjoy the time together. And then there’s the running – the best therapy ever.
That 2nd photo with the lake is beautiful!

I’m glad that you had a great birthday but sorry to hear about the other drama 🙁 I wish that the holidays could be a drama free zone. It’s supposed to be a time for fun and celebration!
The story about the guy that almost hit you with his car has my blood boiling. People literally do no pay attention when they are driving and it drives me INSANE. I am glad that you are okay, but just so annoyed that he didn’t even try to apologize or seem horrified.
Kimberly Hatting says
That idiot driver! Were you close enough to kick his car? At least you shouted at him LOL I had someone drive through a 2-way stop intersection last week. I always slow down (if I don’t have the signs) because I’ve learned to never trust anyone…and this guy just cruised on through. Ugh on the drama. Some people seem to thrive on making others feel miserable. Sorry for that damper on this “time of good cheer”season. Wishing you and your family a great Christmas, Marcia 🙂

My goodness, glad you’re OK. I’ve been on a bus that got hit by a car, when i was at school, but nothing since thank goodness. And Vaporflys, wow! Happy running in them!

How does someone hit a shopping car? Ugh, drivers on their phone drive me crazy. I see so many on my way to work and don’t understand why they don’t put the phone down. I am sorry to hear about the drama. Those are some sweet shoes!! Cannot wait to hear how you like them.

Running sure is the best stress reliever and maybe some retail therapy 🙂 Hope you had a great birthday. It is nice to have the whole family together on your birthday. Enjoy having everyone home this week! merry Christmas

Sorry for the drama. And the guy who hit your cart…seriously?!? So glad you weren’t hurt!
I can’t wait to hear more about those Vaporflys!
Enjoy having everyone home!!

Wow, what a week! Glad you can let go of the drama. I let that crap go with my family years ago. I was out shopping at Target last night. I think your driver made his way into my neighborhood. So many distracted drivers. Anxious to hear how you like the Vaporflys. My son is minutes away from a BQ and is thinking about getting them.

So sorry about the drama. No one needs that this tome of year – or ever! Yikes on the Target crash. I’d say near miss, but if he hit your cart that’s close enough! I am trying to be so careful crossing streets because I know people are harried and NOT paying attention but I’d expect someone to stop at that crosswalk! Enjoy your daughters— and the new shoes. I need to find a new shoe since Mizunos have gone too narrow in the toe box for me. 🙁
Debbie says
Ugh! I hate that some people get in a car and forget they were ever pedestrians! I’ve had a few close calls but I’ve never been hit. Enjoy the holidays with your family!
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
Sorry its been a tough week for you but Im glad you could run and that the weather cooperated! People who use their phones while driving make me so angry. Its so so dangerous! Glad that you were ok and I hope that even though he didnt apologize or anything maybe it reminded him to pay better attention. Hope you enjoy the holidays!
Jenn says
Oh, my gosh! I’m so sorry you’re having drama. That’s awful and I hate that for you 🙁
Happy birthday! Enjoy your new shoes – they look amazing!
People are insane in their vehicles this time of year. I wish it wasn’t so, but I’m glad you’re ok.
Cari says
Hope everything family/neighbor wise will be OK. Happy belated, I’m so glad to know you!
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
Usually I’m jumping out of the way of cars backing out of driveways in our neighborhoods. A few close calls but thankfully no hits. Family drama can definitely be tough. 🙁
I haven’t worn Nikes in years but you make me want to (although I suspect too rich for my blood).
Hope everything smooths out & you have a great holiday (and happy belated birthday, I’ve sucked with these lately even with FB reminders).
Jessie says
Ugh, so sorry about the neighborhood and family drama. That does not sound fun. Glad you were able to relieve the stress with a good long run!
Darlene says
You definitely have to have watched the series. I loved the movie.
Happy birthday. I’m a NiKe but fave switched recently. Darn feet.
I see lots if trail running. I wish ours weren’t buried in snow.
Happy holidays
