It’s Thanksgiving week! Are you ready? Are you hosting? Traveling? Looking forward to being with family? Thing 2 has one shortened day of school this week and Thing 1 flies in Monday night. Hooray! On the surface, my workouts look similar to every other week lately, but there was something very different, which I’ll tell you about in a minute.
Monday: Rest
Tuesday: Treadmill Run 2 miles + Yoga
Wednesday: Rest
Thursday: Trail Run 3 miles + Tabata
Friday: Strength + Tabata
Saturday: Trail Run 4 miles
Sunday: Strength + Stepmill Tabata
It was a mostly uneventful week, although I scored two victories and had a bit of a scare.
The victories: I got my 6 month dental checkup out of the way and a haircut. Those don’t sound huge but I’m glad to have them done.
Grateful to be running my beloved trails!
The scare: In a word (ok four) I bashed my knee. I was basically standing there doing nothing, lifted my leg for who knows why and caught my knee on a heavy stool. It doesn’t sound like much but wow it hurt for hours. It swelled and was still swollen the following day, although significantly less painful. I figured it was just a stupidly acquired bruise. Except the next day that knee was very unstable. If I wasn’t extremely careful, it would buckle and I’d see stars. I wasn’t sure running would be possible so Tuesday’s workout was on the treadmill. My knee was fine running, as long as I didn’t hyper-extend. It’s been feeling stronger by the day. I still have some bruising and superficial soreness but thank heavens the buckling thing is gone. Phew!
Loving
Cauliflower/white-flesh sweet potato mash made with coconut milk.
I officially made it through a full month of Auto Immune Protocol Diet. To be fair, it’s a modified version that’s gluten- and soy-free. I mostly avoid dairy (except for cheese!) and I still eat nuts and seeds. I’ll buckle down fully after the first of the year, but even to the extent I’m following it, I feel much better. Less brain fog, brighter mood. White-flesh sweet potatoes were new to me, but twice the price of orange sweets. Not the most colorful dish ever but the mash is tasty and surprisingly sweet. I’ll bet it could be made with broccoli as well.
Not Loving
Almost daily I get creepy “hi beautiful” DMs on Instagram from strange men. It’s always someone who appears to be a doctor, divorced dad, or most commonly a military guy. The accounts are eerily the same: Maybe a dozen (usually fewer) posts, but if you look at the first one, you’ll realize it was posted just a few days before the most recent, so the account is new. I figured it was some kind of scam and have been deleting the messages and blocking the accounts as soon as the messages pop up. Going forward I’m going to be reporting them.
This week I learned they’re Catfishing. Apparently some women are “lonely” and start talking to these guys. A relationship grows and ultimately the woman is scammed out of lots of money, or worse, sexually assaulted or even murdered. The pics and names used are stolen identities.
Also be aware that your likeness and/or name can be stolen from the internet and used in scams as well. A Google Reverse Image Search will show you where your likeness is turning up. Creepy, right?
Join me here this Friday for a Black Friday Edition of the Runfession Friday Linkup!
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving! How was your week? Any weird aches or pains? Have you been catfished? Fave Thanksgiving side or dessert?
I’m linking up with Kim and Deborah for the Weekly Run Down. Join us!

Nice workout week!
That catfishing thing is really creepy. A friend of mine is a university professor and someone stole his identity (name, photo and all). The impostor made strange appearances on the social media and my friend had a hard time to get the problem solved. Scary.

Oh no! I’m so sorry to hear about your knee! I am glad that it’s feeling better now but I imagine that must have been so scary.
You’ve been doing so well with your new diet and I’m glad that you already seeing the positive effects from it!
Every now and then I get random messages on Instagram but I always delete them. They usually seem to come from users in other countries though.
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
I’ve pretty much been off of IG for months now . . . but before that, yeah, I’d get a lot of those (but thankfully not daily) & I guess I’m not that hard up. 🙂 The worst is people targeting seniors by pretending to be their grandchildren in trouble!
Glad your knee is on the mend. That didn’t sound good.
I only eat Asian sweet potatoes, which sounds like what you’re describing. What passes for a sweet potato in America I have never liked, but I love the firmer Asian ones. I don’t care how much they cost.
Enjoy all that family time! Have to say I am enjoying not hosting this year. Our pocketbook enjoys it, too.

That catfishing thing sounds really scary! I get some random weirdos DM’ing me occasionally, but like you I just delete and block the accounts. Sometimes I’ve reported them because they are annoying. But I don’t really respond to many DM’s on Instagram for that reason. It usually has to be someone I’m familiar with and follow in order for me to engage.
It’s sad that we have to be this cautious these days. There’s no length to which people will not go to scam others. 🙁
Hope your knee gets better soon! I pulled my hip at work the other week and it’s been bugging me ever since. I’m hoping my physical therapist appointment tomorrow will help me work out the kinks.

I get creepy DMs, like you mentioned, as well.I usually report/block all of them. Speaking of freak aches…last year, on Christmas day, mid afternoon my left elbow started hurting. I could not figure out why because I had not done anything out of the ordinary so I surmised it was from pulling a heavy platter/casserole out of the oven and maybe twisted my arm weirdly. I had two major raking session in my yard this week…and the elbow hurts in the SAME place again.I’m guessing (this time), I raked too aggressively with that “compromised” elbow LOL

Ooof on your knee! I’m glad you’re feeling better. It reminds me when our coffee table took out my big toe nail. That did require a trip to the podiatrist. 🙁 Ick on the catfishing. Why are people so creepy? And slimy?
Enjoy having your girls home! I’m hosting, but everyone’s local so it’s just for the day.

I think we talked about this before, but I always check to see who’s following me–I get some sketchy people (men) who have no posts, follow tons of people but have minimal followers. I block those regularly. I’ve never tried Google reverse image search. Huh.
So sorry to hear about your knee? Are we becoming klutzy old ladies or what? LOL! I’m still nursing that sore toe and elbow from my wipeout last week. Be careful! And enjoy your week. We really need a lunch date. I’m free on Mondays and Thursdays now. Let me know…
Beckett @ Birchwood Pie says
I’m so glad that your knee is OK. I have a tough time with the adulting required for routine appointments too. Congrats on getting through your first month of AIP. I’d be really interested to try the white sweet potatoes. Also curious what my husband would think of them since he claims he hates sweet potatoes:-)
Darlene says
Hope the knee is ok. Congrats on surviving your diet.
I am not hosting but going to my MIL – she orders out…I hate it. I would host and cook good food.
I love sweet potatoes. I prefer t hem to white and make them often.
Liz Dexter says
No Thanksgiving here!! Sorry to hear about the knee, but glad it’s on the mend. I get weird military guys on Facebook and my husband gets ladies who have mislaid their tshirts on Instagram!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Oh no – sorry about your knee! The whole catfishing thing is so creepy – I get weird DMs from time to time…I feel like they come in waves. I’m always quick to block. I hadn’t heard about the Google review image thing.
Nice job with your new diet! Good to hear your feeling some positive effects.
Enjoying your family time! My brother’s hosting so I’m just on the hook for a couple of side dishes.
Deborah Brooks says
Ouch on the knee! It’s the worst when you get hurt doing nothing! Funny you should mention the DM thing. Lately I’ve been getting a bunch of those as well. On the one hand, super creepy and weird on the other hey, we still got it! LOL Have a great time with your kids this week. I am loving having everyone under one roof again
angela @ happy fit mama says
There are so many weird things out there. I’m not surprised at all by the catfishing. There’s a woman on Insta who shares all the creepy men she blocks and reports daily. Have a great week with your family and I hope your knee is better soon!
Cari says
So scary – glad your knee is OK
The catfishing is major creepy, wish the sites would crack down on it
Congrats on a month of AIP
Zenaida Arroyo says
I do get weird messages/requests too but just ignore them. So creepy though! Yikes about your knee. I hope it gets better soon. Have a great Thanksgiving with your family!
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
The catfishing thing is so creepy! I think my settings only allow people who I am following to send me DMs otherwise I need to approve them. Sorry about your knee but I’m glad it sounds like it is getting better quickly!
Shathiso says
How weird about your knee! So glad it seems to have fixed itself, but quite scary!
As for the cat-fishing, have read so many sad stories. I’m with you on that, start reporting them.
Renée says
oh my gosh Marcia! what the heck did you do to your knee!?? So glad the worst of it was over quickly. Now that you mention it I had the weirdest pins and needles in both of my legs last thursday. I admittedly had been sitting for a while at work and when I walked downstairs to leave the building it was just the weirdest feeling. Tingling and COLD and alternating left, right, left, right. I though OMG NO PLEASE DON”T LET THIS HAPPEN TO ME AGAIN. And after 5 min walking it went away. But I was so scared that somehow another disc was bulging somewhere!
I’ve never been catfished. I’ve been completely used and abused by a person in real life though hahaha! OK it’s not funny. It never was. Anyway, we used to watch Catfish on MTV and I was always so shocked how people would actually believe these people who were contacting them. So sad. I had a “hi beautiful” message last week. I just instantly block. Ain’t nobody got time for that.
Enjoy your Thanksgiving!
Denise @ runheartfit says
Funny that you mention catfishing because a friend was just telling about a guy she “met” on a dating app who turned out to be a scam artist. She didn’t fall for his scam but did communicate with him for months before she figured it out. They have pretty elaborate stories and spend a lot of time gaining your trust before pouncing. Scary.
Hope your knee is okay.
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
The catfishing stuff sounds pretty creepy. I work at a bank and I’m always impressed with the new ways people are trying to scam our employees to get things like wire transfers. There are some pretty good attempts so we always need to stay on alert when we get emails.
Lex @ Flecks of Lex says
Catfishing is one of my favorite topics when I get together with my single girlfriends for brunch! I have definitely seen some savvy catfishing, unfortunately with particularly vulnerable targets. It’s really sad to see the damage they can do!
San says
Oh, I’ve gotten those message… strangely enough, I get them more on my private account than on my public account…. which makes no sense to me.
