It’s October and it’s time to sit down and catch up over a cup of your favorite fall beverage. I’m going with Trader Joe’s Autumn Maple Coffee with Nut Pods Pumpkin Spice Creamer. (affiliate link). If this brew does not conjure up all the cozy autumn feels, I don’t know what will. I’m linking up with Deborah and Coco for the Ultimate Coffee Date.
If we were having coffee I’d tell you that by the time you read this, we’re in Atlanta for parents’ weekend and I’m SO excited to see a certain teenager again. 6+ weeks apart will do that.
If we were having coffee I’d tell you that October just might be my favorite month of all. How can you not love cool, crisp autumn air, vibrant fall colors and the crunch of leaves beneath your feet?
In the stone age when a 22:XX 5k put me 2nd overall female and wasn’t even a PR. Can I have that girl back please?
If we were having coffee I’d tell you I was a little wistful when I learned that, after organizing it for 20 years, the Rotary Club in our town decided to no longer put on our local 5k (and the scene of my 5k PR). It was a great race where you could pick the charity you wanted to run for. It had a pretty course, age group awards 5 deep, and a post-race pancake breakfast with all the trimmings. It’s no secret that the popularity of running is on the downswing but seeing this race go away feels like the end of an era.
If we were having coffee I’d tell you that, despite the downswing of running, the popularity of the Boston Marathon rages on. Even after tightening up their qualifying times AND adding 1,500 spots to the field, 3,161 qualifiers still did not get a spot in the 2020 race. That’s significantly better than the 7,000 qualifiers that were turned away in 2019, but still. So disappointing.
Erica and I in the Chi Marathon Blogger Press Box
If we were having coffee I’d remind you that I’m going to be in the Now Foods booth at the Chicago Marathon Expo on Friday, 10/11 until 2pm. I’ll also be hanging out in the Blogger Press Box (BPB) at mile 13 on runners’ right on marathon day. I can’t wait to give you all Mo cowbell! Remember you can save $10 when you spend $40 at Now Foods with MARCIANOW10.
What would you tell me over coffee? What’s your fave month? Have you noticed a decline in running’s popularity? Do you have a local race you love?

It’s sad to see a favorite race come to an end. There’s been a few in my area that are gone, at least all the memories live on. Have a great weekend!!

I haven’t noticed much of a decline in running races around here–but it doesn’t surprise me. Hopefully, the cream will rise to the top and that bad races (Christmas in July, I’m looking at you) will go away!
Have SO MUCH FUN this weekend! Are you going to a football game?
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
Awww, that sounds like such a great 5k. Our big local half/full next weekend still sells out. I’m not quite sure why, most of my local runner friends don’t run it because we train there all the time. I’ve never run it.
I’m not sure I’ve noticed a downtick. Or maybe I’m just kind of blind.
Have a great weekend — hope it’s not too hot, LOL!
Beckett @ Birchwood Pie says
I’m sorry about your 5k. Our local firecracker 5k was canceled this year, which was a kick in the gut since we’d run it as a family several times and that’s where we took our first ever family photo, but at the last minute another sponsor picked it up. Hopefully that will happen with your race.

I still have 2 more weeks until I get to see my son. Enjoy your weekend with your daughter. Are you going to a football game? Those are always fun. Thanks for linking up for coffee today

Enjoy your time with your daughter. My girls chose to stay local which made me happy but I feel like they are missing out on such a great experience.
I can’t wait to wear that Boston jacket. I’ll probably wear it everywhere. Hehehe.
Coco says
October is my favorite month too. Hopefully we’ll have fall weather this weekend! Bummer on the race. I hadn’t heard about running being less popular but I guess Boston will always be a bucket list race.
Thanks for joining us for coffee!

That creamer definitely sounds like the epitome of fall! My favorite season when I’m on the west coast is summer, but it’s fall when I’m on the east coast! The leaves are just so pretty, and I love that cool crisp air as well! :]

I’m totally with you on Team October. April too, although sometimes spring allergies make me crazy.
Enjoy Parents’ Weekend and Chicago expo
I know this is a factor of NYC being just so large, but we haven’t really felt the downswing. NYRR races still fill up, and while they do end some, it’s usually because they’re adding another i.e. Scotland turned into an Italy run.
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
That’s too bad about your 5K – sounds like such a great race! Surprised they let it go – I feel like we’re drowning in 5Ks around here.
Keeping my fingers crossed that we get to see each other next weekend!
Enjoy Parents’ Weekend!

Ah the old days of running 5ks were amazing! Let’s just be happy we experienced it, right? I absolutely love October too and I’m getting ready for a half marathon this Saturday – fingers crossed all goes well!!
Have the best time in Atlanta!! I mean, how could you not? Hope you get to sneak in a few runs too 🙂

It is sad when a favorite race comes to an end. The race where I set my 5k PR bit the dust too and I was very disappointed. Hope the weekend with your daughter was wonderful!
