It’s summer. It’s hot. It’s humid and my coffee is over ice. Let’s catch up over a cup. I’m linking up with Deb and Coco for the Ultimate Coffee Date. Join us!
If we were having coffee, I’d no doubt show you my brand new World Marathon Majors mug. Abbott finally opened their online store and I did not hesitate to treat myself to some hard-earned swag.
I’d also tell you that what I really REALLY hoped for was a 6-star jacket, alas at this time Abbott is only taking pre-orders for a men’s jacket. I realize that as a woman, I am in the great minority of 6-star finishers, however if it’s a pre-order, couldn’t they have offered a dang women’s jacket?? I suppose I could roll over and buy a men’s jacket but I runfess it’s pretty ordinary. For $150 I don’t want ill-fitting and ordinary. I’ll pass.
Over coffee I’d tell you that my 6-star finishers certificate arrived as well. It shows the dates of all my WMM races along with finish times. You’ll have to take my word for it, since I’m hesitant to post it here, given the way bib numbers, names, everything is stolen from the internet.
Over coffee I’d tell you the charity spots for the 2020 Tokyo Marathon, opened this week. And the system crashed. There’s speculation charity spots have already sold out. There’s a 1.1% chance of getting in through the regular lottery. It’s pretty weird to sit and watch the pandemonium from the “other side”, because that goal is already checked off!
Over coffee I’d tell you that Thing 2 starts 8th grade on August 15. That’s the same day we need to be in Atlanta dropping off Thing 1 at Georgia Tech. Why oh WHY must the schools in this district start so darn early?? Getting out in May is way over rated since the weather isn’t even nice yet.
Over coffee I’d tell you the herbs and veggies I planted in containers on the deck are coming along nicely. I’d also tell you I think I bit off more than I can chew when I planted a 30’x30′ plot in the community garden. I simply don’t have time or shall I say I don’t want to devote the time necessary to do all the weeding out there. Ugh.
What would you tell me over coffee? Are you growing anything this summer?
Wendy says
The weeds are the reason we gave up our community garden plot. It would have been a full time job to keep up with it. We did enjoy all the tomatoes we got when we did have that garden!. Our backyard perennial garden is so full of weeds. Ugh.
It is crazy how early school starts around here! One year due to construction, we started after Labor Day. It was great!
Coco says
I love your mug! It’s ridic they don’t have a woman’s jacket. I’d call them out on social media. 🙂 I nearly killed my basil by waiting one day too long to water it — luckily it came back to life. I brought it inside this week because it’s been SO HOT and that way I can pick leaves without getting attacked by mosquitoes.

I hear ya on the gardening! Every year, we have the best intentions….This year, we scaled back on the number of plants, of course, that does free up more room for the weeds LOL Fingers crossed we can stay in control this year. Bummer on the jacket, but that’s a pretty sweet mug!
Deborah Brooks says
wow August 15 is early for regular schools to start. They just changed our district to the week before labor day instead of after wards. The college packing mayhem should be starting soon! Let me know if you need any tips on doing it from out of state. I assume you know about the bed bath and beyond discounts and pick up there? That was a lifesaver for us
Denise@runheartfit says
We don’t have a community garden in my area but 30’x30’ would be a huge commitment! Bummer about the jacket. Don’t they know that runners are almost 50/50 men and women? Or is it not the same in Japan?
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
The mug is a beauty! It should bring you many happy memories. Too bad about the jacket.
My herbs are doing well, the chard is doing well, the lettuce is just hanging in there. I had one tomato ripen so far, but I didn’t get to it in time. 🙁 There are plenty others growing, though (and I’m the only one here who eats tomatoes).
School starts about a month later here (and gets out a month later). But when we lived in TX it was the same deal with starting earlier & getting out earlier. I can see that will be a hectic weekend for you!
Zenaida Arroyo says
Love your mug! I would be ticked off too that women’s jackets aren’t available.
We go back to school August 26th. Last year we started a week earlier and that is why we were able to end at the end of May. Now we go till the first week of June. Oh well.
Black Knight says
A very beautiful mug.
Sorry for the jacket.
I have just bought the basil this morning! My wife takes care of the garden where we have many herbs and fruit plants.
The animals are my duty, I feed them and I clean the territory where they rules!

I’m sorting out our garden as getting new blinds on the back window in the sitting room means we can see a dispiriting square of dark plain patio, shed, bin and fence. Nice! I have friends with allotments and no one can cope with them really!
Sandra D Laflamme says
Not cool about the jacket. Why oh why in this day and age would they still only be offering a mens jacket! The coffee is iced here too as it is hot! Hot! Hot!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
It’s crazy to me that they’re not offering a woman’s jacket?! I do love your mug 🙂
I think herbs and tomatoes in containers are just about all I can manage this year. 30 x 30 is a serious commitment for sure.
Ugh sorry, you’re dealing with colliding school calendars already. I’m surprised Chicago schools wrap-up so early.

Love the mug! ANd boo on the jackets, ordinary and ill-fitting, no way. Thanks again for the hotel help the other day I’m sure you’d posted it, but asking was just faster
