It’s officially summer and the running is…well it’s joyful…and short. Here’s how the week in workouts went:
Monday: Rest
Tuesday: Speedwork at the Track
Wednesday: Strength + Core
Thursday: Run 3 miles
Friday: 2 mile trail run + Plyo Intervals
Saturday: Run 5 miles + swim
Sunday: CrossFit
Quality over quantity describes my running right now
Two different people this week asked me when I’m going to train for another marathon. The answer? Not anytime soon, in fact I don’t even have plans to train for a half. The 10k distance is where I’m at and I like it!
Like I told you last week, my Garmin continues to approve of my shorter distances. Apparently I’m peaking. Can’t tell you the last time it said that!

This article from the Wall Street Journal about how the “rules” for middle age are changing. Amen sister!
Thing 1 returned safely from her trip to Portugal. Although I missed her, it was good “practice” for when she heads off to college.
I’ve been experimenting in the kitchen. Stay tuned for more on that.
Season 2 of Big Little Lies. I watched season 1 in its entirety a couple years ago on our flight from London to Dubai and Dubai to Greece. It was fun to catch up on the first episode of the new season.

Rain rain go away…although I can’t complain about comfy running temps
While I know some of you are broiling in heat, Summer weather is mostly not here in the Chicago area. We have glimmers of gorgeous weather, but overall it’s still way too cool and rainy for THE END OF FREAKING JUNE!
How was your week? Are you running long or short? How do you feel about low mileage?
Be sure to join me right here this Friday for the June edition of the Runfession Friday Linkup!
I’m linking up with Kim and Deborah for the Weekly Run Down. Join us!

I am shocked at how cool and rainy it has been here in KS this year. I will take the cool but keep the rainy! Farmers can’t get fields cleared of wheat or planted (and sometimes re planted at this point).

I’m running shorter these days — with 6 mile “long” runs. I’ll pay the price when I start training for my November half, but by then it should be a bit cooler. 🙂 I haven’t started watching Season 2 of BLL. We started Dead To Me and that’s got us sucked in.
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
Nope, still running short too. Don’t mind it at all. I would like to get in one more state this year, but not sure it’ll happen. We’re only halfway through the year though so who knows?
We are back & forth, still plenty of rain, but it’s warming up in a hurry next week if the forecast can be trusted.

Did those to people that asked you about training for a marathon know that you already ran TWO this year?? I definitely didn’t expect you to run any more marathons this year. You deserve a break!
I feel like its been raining here since April. We’ve had more rainy days than non-rainy days, that’s for sure!

It could be worse… they had snow in Colorado yesterday!
I’m enjoying the short distances myself! I’ve got a half on the calendar for September, so there is that to think about, though.
Kimberly Hatting says
I have always loved the short runs! I do more of those than anything, even when I’m in full-on training mode. It’s no surprise that I wish the temps were a bit warmer. I’m wearing my arm warmers on more of my early morning runs than I’d prefer LOL At least they’re pretty 😉 Thanks for linking with us, Marcia!

I am enjoying season 2 and also re-watched a few of season 1 of Big Little Lies, but wish I had watched it all again…I even read the book, but still forgot about a few pieces of the plot line. Great show, great music!
Training for a 10k and keeping the long runs a bit ‘shorter’ sounds like a great plan after such a busy spring for you!
Deborah Brooks says
I am running shorter too it’s just too hot and I am ok with that for the summer. More time to do other summer fun activities. See you for Runfessions I have a few! Thanks for linking up

I am enjoying running the shorter races and training runs right now. I do have to begin thinking about MCM this fall, though. We had a beautiful day today, but my run was not great. I was still tired from my 5K yesterday. I guess I don’t recover as fast as I used to!
Black Knight says
I agree, in summer with all this heat, the runs have to be joyful…and short.
I am just paying the price of challenging workouts (and races).
But it mainly depends by the fact that often I forget how old I am.

The end of June and we’re STILL talking about the crappy weather. We went to the Cubs game yesterday and somehow the rain held off. Then the skies opened up. UGH.
Darlene says
I really like short runs. That’s what I do even when I am training sometimes.
Although, I know with a full marathon, I’d better get in the long ones and I will!!
I just watched a few episodes of Big Little Lies – I also read the book.
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
I’m deep into marathon training right now – and I love all of the runs other than my long runs right now! 🙂 But I have a goal, so they need to get done. I find it enjoyable to get out in the morning for just a 30 min run before work. It’s a perfect way to start my day!
I’ve been seeing so much about Big Little Lies. I need to check it out!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Running short sounds like the perfect answer for the summer heat – says the woman training for a fall marathon LOL! After all the miles you racked up at the beginning of this year for your two marathons I’m thinking a break from running long is needed!
Renée says
I’m running short!! Well… This is officially the start of marathon training for me, so distances will get longer. Last week I managed 10K, but not all in one go. I’m still not able to do that yet. I have already decided that Chicago is not going to be a time goal race at all. In fact, that whole PR thing may be well and truly out the window at this stage. The foot is hanging in there but it’s not great at times… so I will do what I can and grit my teeth and smile through training. Hey, at least i CAN, right?
what are plyo intervals?
It is blazing hot here right now, I would love to do a bit of a trade or a mix of our weather with yours? what do you say? 🙂
Liz Dexter says
Very wet over here, too … I don’t love shorter runs as I only get into my stride and comfortable after a good few miles. However I’m very much into no more racing, just running for the fun of it, even if that’s long!
Zenaida Arroyo says
I like short runs as well but sometimes I get a great feeling after completing a longer run. Sometimes the longer runs feels better than a shorter one. Weird how that happens.
I don’t blame you for not wanting to train for another marathon. You had a goal and you completed it. That is done. Now focus on the shorter races or maybe you can join me on one of my half marathon trips.
