Seriously HOW can we be saying goodbye to May already?ย Maybe that’s a good thing as this month has been exceptionally cold and wet. Let’s sit down and catch up over coffee, runfession style. Since today is one of our rare nicer, warmer days, I’m going with cold brew. I’m linking up with Deb and Coco for the Ultimate Coffee date. Join us!
If we were having coffee I’d tell you there’s glorious daylight very early in the morning here now and I love it. It’d be SO nice to get out and run in that peaceful pocket of time. There is no better feeling of accomplishment and no better way to set up a great day than to get up and out there and have that workout nailed down early. All that said, I runfess I have yet to do it. I blame having one kiddo still in school, but if I really, really wanted to, I could work around that and be back home by 6:45. I’d probably be more motivated if I had a big race on the horizon, but I runfess I’m enjoying the fact that I don’t.
I runfess over cold brew that my MIL aka “the hurricane” can clear a room with her social skills or lack thereof, and our graduation party was no exception. She worked the yard, dominating conversations, talking all about herself or one-upping anyone who could get a word in edgewise. It was quite a spectacle. Do you ever think about how you come across to people? Why there are some people you meet in social situations that you are drawn to or make you feel great while others are….well…self-absorbed snores? Can you tell when you are boring someone? This article sheds some light on what to look for.
Apparently the FCC has a plan to block robocalls. It would give US telecom firms more leeway in implementing anti-robocall blocking systems. US telecom customers received 26 BILLION robocalls last year which is a 46% increase over the previous year. I runfess “Elizabeth” has been calling me for literally years now. I’m not even sure what company she reps, but she calls about “winning” a cruise or some BS jazz like that. I’ve hung up on her, I’ve stopped answering her calls, I’ve tracked where the call originates, I’ve reported the calls, I’ve blocked all the numbers she calls from and I runfess I may have shouted at her to stop calling. All to no avail. Clearly she has driven me nuts.
If I were runfessing over cold brew, I’d tell you all the cake and snacks in the house since the graduation party have really awakened my wicked sweet tooth. You’ve heard me say before that the universe gives us exactly what we need in it’s own perfect time and this book is a testament to that. When I agreed to review it, I thought it was just a cookbook, but there’s a lot more to it. It starts with an 8-day program for retraining your tastebuds, which is exactly what I need right now. I’m going to be starting this asap. Stay tuned.
I runfess over cold brew that since the Tokyo Marathon, I’ve become addicted to my weather app. I stalked the rain in Tokyo, the weather for London and of course the forecast for our party. Did you know that if you watch the app during a thunderstorm it flashes lightning in real time to what is going on outside? It’s very cool….but yeah…I really should cut back on my weather stalking.
Alright your turn: What have you to runfess? Do you get robocalls? Are you a slave to your weather app? Final day for my giveaway! Are you in?
Black Knight says
May has always been a good month in my running life: many races and good weather.
I don’t get robocall calls because few persons know my cellular phone number and I don’t share it with commercial companies.
I don’t trust my weather app. As a good old sailor I am the best “weather app” of myself.
Allie says
I could also run very early and be back to get the kids ready but why would I do that when I can wait until 8:30? LOL!! I did NOT know that about the weather app and lightening but it sounds pretty cool. I’m also addicted to my weather app…like on a daily basis!!
Hope you don’t have to check yours as much this weekend ๐ Have a great one!
Darlene says
Yes. I get so many robocalls. From all over the world.
Any runner is obsessed with the weather app. Now if it would actually right??
I always have a sweet tooth. Sigh.
Wendy says
What is this weather app you speak of? I have WTF and Accuweather. No lighting flashing feature on either.
We keep our landline just for the robocalls. That’s the number we give out and it keeps the robocalls down on our phones. I still get some–the Apple Watch has come in handy for screening, especially when I’m at work.
Kimberly Hatting says
Like Wendy, we’ve kept our land line for the unwanted calls…and when it rings, my eyes do an automatic eye-roll because I know it’s probably someone I don’t want to talk to (if it’s even an actual person). I have a couple different weather apps, and they seldom agree on what’s happening outside LOL I need to ditch both of them and find a different one….but I do stalk the weather a lot, especially the day/evening prior to a #5at5 or a big race.
Coco says
We get so many robocalls – on the home phone, cell phones, and at work! I just don’t answer unfamiliar numbers – but then I might miss a random call that’s real. Ugh on your MIL’s “manners”. I have a friend that dominates every conversation — even with boring shit like recapping the movie she just saw — and it does make me think twice about doing something with her. What weather app do you use for stalking?
Chocolaterunsjudy says
Oh, I have definitely seen people glaze over when I talk sometimes (and not about running, LOL!). And then there are the people you just click with.
I’m also enjoying the no pressure need to run. For now.
Half the battle with eating is actually doing a reset now & again. It can really work miracles! I’ll need that after this weekend, this race is sponsored by the company that does one of my favorite chocolate chip cookies (at least from childhood). You get a box. It’s dangerous. Some years I do better than others!
Laurie says
I can imagine you are enjoying the fact that you don’t have a big race on the horizon. You had a busy spring! Sorry to read about your MIL. Yikes! I will read the article. I worry about talking about myself too much, especially if friends ask about running adventures. Thanks for sharing. we are having a party tonight, so the timing is good for me to read.
Deborah Brooks says
I do love the stories about the MIL ha ha. She really sounds like a real piece of work! I bet she really entertained your friends. I am looking to get back on track in June as well and that cookbook sounds interesting
Kim G says
Looking forward to how you enjoy that cookbook and the 8 day program. I could definitely use a reset for my tastebuds as well.
The robocalls drive me crazy. I usually notice a huge uptick in them around election time. If I don’t know the number I usually just let in ring, then I’ll go in and block the number but sadly I don’t think it really helps.
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Oh so many robocalls! Most of them come through our landline but every now and then I get one on my cell which really aggravates me.
I’ll be looking forward to your review of that cookbook – I runfess that my eating is all over the place at the moment!
HoHo Runs says
I had a major attack of the sweet tooth that lasted a few months! And, gifted me with a few pounds. I’m now “better”. Congrats on completing the World Marathon Majors! I may not be commenting, but I do keep up with my buddies. ๐ Very impressive, sista. Thanks for the linkup.
Sandra D Laflamme says
I am a weather stalker too! Constantly checking the weather. I too have been having a sweet tooth. And I don’t even have anything special to celebrate lol!
Anna @ Piper's Run says
I’ll runfess that I wanted a cold beer the other night but I also wanted to run. The run won over and then I forgot to have my beer post run! HA!
Becca | Rabbit Food Runner says
I always like looking through cookbooks to see what flavor pairings they use. It’s like research haha. I’ve also been stalking the weather – it’s been such a monsoon
The Accidental Marathoner says
Oh, that MIL of yours! You are in good company, my friend! Yes to the weather app (I’m a total weather-stalker)! It will show ‘active’ rain, lightning, etc., and I love it! We still have our landline, mainly for my 90-year old mom who lives with us. She has a cell phone, but the landline is better for a potential 911 call, and her emergency alert system needs a landline to work. The robocalls have been crazy of late, even on our cells. The cookbook sounds interesting…can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it.
Missy @ Getting Fit to Find Myself says
I love that we are having coffee over a cold brew! In my book, it is the only way to have coffee! My weather app is my lifeline! I check it several times a day! I swear it’s a trait I got from my grandfather! Though it was the tv forecast for him!
Farrah says
26 billion is beyond ridiculous. I’ve been blocking numbers left and right but they always get through. It’s nice to know the FCC actually has a plan for blocking them (I’m not gonna hold my breath though… ._.).
That cookbook sounds pretty awesome! Definitely looking forward to seeing what your thoughts are on it!
