Sorry for being MIA. I’m finally coming up for air after an epic graduation weekend. Whew! It was a whirlwind. I’m not even going to bother sharing my workouts because they were minimal and spotty at best. Some short runs. One visit to the gym….that’s about it. My Garmin is giving me the stink eye.
But wow! Graduation was something. I loaded my purse with Kleenex because I was sure I’d be a sniveling wreck. Turns out I didn’t shed a single tear. I was just so happy for the graduates and all that the future holds for them. I didn’t get melancholy. Who am I?
I thought my high school graduating class of 997 was incredibly large until I saw this one. 1100 graduates. I was amazed how quickly they moved through the ceremony. They’ve got it down to a science I guess. The traffic getting into and away from the arena was the worst part.
The Party
You know I’d been wigging out about the graduation party all month. It basically rains here every single day because apparently we live in a rainforest, so I was definitely questioning the wisdom of throwing a huge yard party. The 30′ tent arrived the day before. The yard was softish but could’ve been so much worse.
I’ve done many gatherings for 20 or so people but a party more than 4x that size put me way out over my skis. My anxiety was high. There were scattered showers the day before and it rained on and off the morning of the party. By noon though, it cleared and by 2pm the sun came out. By the time the guests started arriving it was sunny and 75. The weather could not have been nicer. I still can’t believe how perfect it was.
Is this GT garden gnome the cutest or what?
I went with a blue and gold Georgia Tech theme. I can’t tell you how many hours I sat assembling lanterns, making pom poms and rosettes to hang in the tent. It was worth it though because it turned out lovely…and I runfess I failed to get a pic. Sigh.
Love
I’ll be the first to tell you how smart my graduate is. Truly she can do whatever she sets her mind to and she makes it look easy although we all know it is not. But when she was honored by the American Society of Women in Engineering for excellence in Engineering, that sort of blew my mind. I did not see that one coming. She did not get the engineering gene from me!
This Bag Game from Vineyard Vines at Target was a huge hit.
Not Loving
So. Much. Leftover. Beer & Wine. We really aren’t drinkers and apparently our guests aren’t either. I suppose that’s better than someone being overserved and unruly.
So. Much. Leftover. Cake. Despite sending lots of dessert home with guests, there’s still way too much here. I’ll eat cake all day so this is probably more of a problem than the booze.
I always say that things work themselves out in their own perfect way and the graduation festivities were no exception. I was so uneasy about the weather, but even that managed to come through for us in the clutch. Good karma is a blessing!
The week ahead
Thing 2 has 6 more days of school until we’re in full-on summer mode. She’s got 3 more rehearsals before her flute recital next week.
I really do have to focus some attention on training for the Wonder Woman race coming up on June 9. Even though it’s “only” a 10k, my runs are in the ballpark of 3 and 4 miles lately with zero quality whatsoever. Oh well. It’ll be fun at any pace. Join me and use WWBIBRAVE to save 10% at signup.

How was your week? Are you dodging dicey weather? How big was your graduating class?
3 more days for my giveaway!

That’s a huge graduating class! I thought the schools here were big, but that’s at least a couple hundred more than my son’s class will be.
Glad the weather worked out for you! Congrats to your graduate!

What a relief the weather came around for you!!!! We had intermittent storms in the forecast all weekend, but didn’t get hardly any rain in the daylight hours. We had graduation in town, as well, so it was a relief for all the grad parties. That is a HUGE class! Congrats to the lovely daughter!!

Congrats to your daughter and … to the proud parents.
At my time we didn’t use the high school graduating class but I am talking of the “Stone Age”: 1974.

Awesome news about the weather! I’m SO happy everything turned out great – except for the leftovers but that’s probably a good problem to have considering what could have happened weather-wise ๐ And the honors for engineering? Wow. That is super impressive. This is giving me hope for the future – LOL!!
Good luck with the 10k. Just get out there and have fun!

Congrats to your daughter! Congrats to you and your husband for raising a STRONG and CONFIDENT woman!
I thought of you this weekend because yes it was gorgeous on Saturday. So glad you had great weather for the party.
If you still have beer and wine, let me know and I’ll take some from you. ๐

Congrats to the graduate and hooray for good weather.
I think you need another party for the leftovers.
962 in my graduation class.
Good luck with the upcoming races.

Awesome that the weather came through for you! Seriously, aside from Thanksgiving, which is usually 9-10 tops, I do very little entertaining. So not my mom’s daughter, they loved to entertain. I would probably be having panic attacks trying to pull that off.
I’m with you on a race without much quality training & mine’s just 5k, LOL! No big deal though. At least I know i can run it. ๐

That family picture is terrific . I am so glad the weather (and everything else) worked out, but am bummed you didn’t take pictures because I bet everything looked amazing. Huge congrats on the engineering award — that’s quite an honor. You must be bursting with pride!

1100 graduates. WOW. Mine was ~200 and college only slightly more. Grad school *NYU) was huge, but I skipped the full graduation. Congrats on survivng all the attendant activities and to your daughter on that engineering nod.
