It’s that time of year. Even though not much has bloomed around here yet, my seasonal allergies are telling me otherwise. While mostly my symptoms aren’t THAT bad, there are days when I literally want to claw my eyes out. The itching and burning gets so irritating. I’ve learned that there are things I can do to minimize the discomfort so I don’t have to miss any workouts. Here are some tips for staying active through allergy season.
I received product and compensation from Mom’s Meet in exchange for testing and review. All thoughts and opinions, as always, are my own.
Staying Active Through Allergy Season
Run/workout early or late. Pollen levels reach their peak around midday or early afternoon. Aim to get out early in the morning or later in the evening to avoid it.
Note the pollen count before you go out. If its super high the treadmill or gym may be your best option.
Protect your eyes and lungs. Wear sunglasses to keep irritants out of your eyes and a bandanna to help you breathe clearer air.
Treat allergies with medicine. I recently had the opportunity to test Similasan Eye Allergy Relief. It’s a gentle remedy that originated in Switzerland over 35 years ago. It relieves symptoms by engaging the body’s own defenses to support the immune system.
Formulated with natural, plant-based active ingredients like Eyebright flowers and Sabadilla Lily, Similasan Eye Allergy Relief is non-GMO verified and contains no harsh chemicals, antihistamines or vasoconstrictors. I love that I can use it as often as I need to with no known side effects or contraindications.

Eyebright (euphrasia) temporarily relieves watery discharge, redness and swelling of the eyelid.
Sabadilla helps relieve watery eyes and eyelid redness.
How does it work? It’s very easy to use. Just a couple of drops in each eye does the trick. While the first dose took a little while for me to notice relief, as I continued using it consistently, I noticed the itching/burning stopped.
Try Similasan for yourself with this money-saving coupon. Find it at Target, Walmart, Walgreens, CVS, Whole Foods, Amazon and many other stores.
Do you suffer from seasonal allergies? How do you get relief?
Has spring sprung where you are?

When I was young, my allergies to grass were really bad. As I’ve aged, they have almost disappeared. But sometimes they do rear their ugly head.
And I wear contacts.
UGH!!
Thanks for the tips.
Fingers crossed that they will keep at bay this year.

Allergies have been fierce the last few weeks. I find if I try to blow dry my hair out before bed to get the pollen out it helps a bit.

Great tips! I have the worst allergies which is not fun for a golfer considering I have to be around grass, plants and everything else that drives me crazy on a daily basis.

Spring is springing (but not quite there yet) — still there are quite a few bulbs blooming, the forsythia is in its glory — but the bike path was pretty darn barren.
Luckily I don’t usually suffer with allergies. Mr. Judy is a different story (but totally resistant to anything I might suggest).

Even though we had snow earlier in the week, I could feel the allergens affecting me! It’s that time of year. My patients love the natural products. I’ll have to recommend this one!

Several years ago, while undergoing an extensive house remodel, I was a major mess with allergies. My skin was in constant turmoil (I later learned, via allergy testing, I’m highly reactive to drywall dust/cement dust/grout) and my eyes and sinuses were on constant high alert. In addition to the skin allergy testing, I also underwent testing for sinus allergies…and I’m basically allergic to everything but the sun, moon and stars. Pollen, trees, grass, cats (off the charts) and most dogs (thankfully, Max is one of very few breeds with low dander…a huge criteria before we considered rescuing him). Several years of allergy shots (5?) and I can be outside without much issue now. But I’m very leery of plant-based products, especially eye drops LOL

Spring is indeed in full bloom here! For as much as I check the weather app, I’ve never taken noticed to the pollen count. I’ll be sure to do that now! Thanks for linking up with us!

Great tips. Unfortunately I suffer from seasonal allergies: nose and eyes are in the troubles. I will survive……

Like Kim, I’m wary of plant-based things, lots of people have waved Rescue Remedy at me over the years but all that pollen, not so sure! I dose up and wear sunglasses and indoors if it’s bad a wet hanky over my face for 15 minutes does the trick. It’s really allergic out at the moment; I think everything has come out at once!
