Traditionally I do a “MAYhem” post on this blog, because everything seems to hit the fan in May. However this year mayhem has come in mid-April. Blame having a graduating senior in the house…oh and the London Marathon mere days away.
Here’s how London Marathon taper week 2 panned out:
London Marathon Taper Week 2
Monday: Rest (trip to see Dr. Miracle)
Tuesday: Ran 6 miles (felt great)
Wednesday: Strength/core
Thursday: Ran 5 miles (last half mile did not feel so great)
Friday: Rest (back to Dr. Miracle)
Saturday: Run 8 miles
Sunday: Rest
It was a week of improbabilities. We started with a crazy blizzard, dumping 8+” of snow on the area. Thankfully it melted almost as quickly as it arrived. Almost.
We saw “washed up” Tiger Woods win his 6th Masters Championship; a dog fight to the finish of the men’s Boston Marathon while a virtual “unknown” woman took the lead early in Boston and held it to win. Say what? Then there was the alert that the high school was on lock down due to an “unknown threat.” Just when you think you’ve seen it all, Notre Dame burns down. Sigh.
On the running front, I’ve been niggly. Maybe it’s taper “maranoia” maybe not. While the pelvis adjustment I got seemed to work wonders, after a couple of runs I started feeling not-so-great again. I already had a follow-up Chiro appt. scheduled so in I went. Turns out my pelvis was misaligned again. I got readjusted and taped.
During my weekend long run all felt great until mile 4. At that point that niggle behind my knee presented itself, it was minor and not painful but not perfect either. By mile 5 it faded away and stayed gone. According to Dr. Miracle it could be scar tissue from my injury a year ago. I’ll go back for one last appt. before I leave for London. I swear it takes a village.
The week ahead
I’m headed to London on Thursday morning. Before I go though, we’ve got the last high school track meet before Conference Finals and Sectionals, as well as Senior night, Sports Awards Night and a flute recital. I’ll miss Maddie’s senior prom because it’s falls the weekend I’m in London. Sigh. Like I said: It’s all hitting the fan.
There is rain in the London Marathon forecast. I’m going to hope it goes away of course, but even if it doesn’t, I’m going to suck it up and deal. I’ve got my deluxe rain poncho. There are no sweep times like in Tokyo and the low for the day is higher than the high was in Tokyo. I’m going to have fun with whatever the day brings and grab that 6th World Marathon Major Star!
Finally, I LOVE this article about overthinking, worrying and obsessing. It’s about letting go of angst related to not having things we want or cannot control. It talks about building habits that foster positive thoughts and focusing on the good things.
Runfession Friday Alert! Because I’ll be in London on Runfession Friday (4/26), for April only, I’m going to move Runfession Friday back a week to Friday, May 3 and combine it with the Ultimate Coffee Date Linkup. Be sure to mark your calendar and join us!
How was your week? Did you celebrate Passover? Easter? Do you tend to worry? Overthink?
I’m linking up with Kim and Deborah for the Weekly Run Down. Join us!

After the Tokyo rain and sweeps, I think London will be a breeze! Have fun and enjoy the whole experience! I love how you summarised the week from Tiger Woods to Notre Dam – truly a week of highs and lows, and the most unexpected! Good luck with the last few days of prep for London – travel safely and have a ball! 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
No matter what this time of the year always seems to get crazy busy! I am hoping those little twinges you are having go away as quickly as they appeared. You have put in the work so just try to relax this week and enjoy!

That article is perfect for my own personal situation. It’s hard to let go of the things you can’t control. Like the weather… I’m so excited for you that I can’t stand it! But is it wrong that I’ve already started on my Runfessions? So many runfessions as always…
At least being so busy this week will keep your mind off of the BHAG.
Renée says
I’m wishing you calmness and zen in the upcoming days Marcia, no matter what all is going on. You are going to do amazing in London 🙂 if it rains so be it, there’s no way it will be worse than Tokyo.
I do worry and overthink, but not so much as I used to.
Coco says
It was quite a roller coaster of a week. I hope you are mostly suffering from maranoia (love that word). You are going to have a great time in London, no matter what happens. You have worked so hard for this – it’s time to bask in the experience.
Thank’s for the head’s up on the runfessions. For once I hadn’t forgotten.

You’re going to be so busy this week you’re not really going to have time to be nervous! And while rain may be int the forecast, it’s far too early to tell what will really happen. But yes, this is the one to savor!
So what will the next goal be?
Kimberly Hatting says
Wow, things definitely are hitting the fan! I hope all calms down with your body so you have a smooth experience in London. I also hope Momma N grants you a pass on the rain.
Jessie says
Have a wonderful time in London, I’m so envious. It’s a fun one!

It really was quite a week! Sorry to hear about all the “niggles” this week. It seems like Dr. Miracle is always able to work his magic so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that all goes well in London!

Have a great time in London! One of my coaching clients is running it too. It’s her first marathon so it’s extra special.
Becca | Rabbit Food Runner says
Your schedule is jam packed but silver lining is, at least it’s taper and not peak week with more mileage 🙂 Safe travels to London!

I’ve said it before and I will say it again but I am so excited for you!!!
Darlene says
This is it! So exciting! And no matter what, it will be more enjoyable than Tokyo.
I eat all the food so I celebrated both Passover and Easter.
Have a 15k Sat…rain in the forecast as well.
Hope we both have good weather.
Michelle says
So much going on – I feel your pain! My “mayhem” seems to have crept into April too.
Here’s hoping the niggles are just maranoia. I am so excited for you to get to London and just soak it all in!
Sending you calming vibes for this week!

I certainly hope the rain isn’t during your race. Boston really lucked out since it wasn’t looking good in the days leading up to it.
Montana @ Pretty Lil Mudder says
Notre Dame broke my heart. As a history buff it’s hard to see true Medieval architecture destroyed like that.
Have a great time in London! I hope the weather turns out ok for you!
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
I’m with ya – race day is Sunday for me (in Toledo, Ohio). Yikes!!! Like you also, I have a crazy month but unfortunately it’s April and not May! My schedule gets slammed. I hope you have a great race in London and those niggles don’t bother you too much!!
Allie says
AHHHH!!! Good luck woman!!! Sounds like even if it rains, it will be ok and not nearly as insane as Tokyo! I just hope you can enjoy it all and just being in London and all the excitement around such a huge race. Can’t wait to follow along!! Cheers!

I’ve had an insanely busy week and the next 36 hours will be that plus more. Somehow it will all get done. See you this weekend!

Wow! so much exciting stuff going on with London coming up and a graduating senior. No wonder things are a bit mayhem. Good luck in London and have a great time!
