It is officially spring, even if Mom Nature hasn’t quite gotten the memo yet. Better yet, IT’S SPRING BREAK here and we’re headed to warmer climes, which is amazing.
My workouts? It’s complicated. First, here’s how the week in workouts went:
Monday: Rest
Tuesday: Run 5 miles
Wednesday: Strength/core
Thursday: Run 4 mile progression
Friday: Rest (Shamrock Shuffle Pkt. Pickup)
Saturday: CrossFit light/high reps
Sunday: Shamrock Shuffle 8k (stay tuned for the recap)
Spring Break
Speaking of memos, my body hasn’t quite gotten the one about how I’m supposed to be recovered from Tokyo and ramping up for London. I’m still feeling a little rickety to be honest. One day my left ITB will be a little achy, the next day the spot where I had that strained popliteus muscle will be snappy and weird, then a hip flexor will be ornery. It all sort of comes and goes. Is it real? Or am I paranoid? It’s enough to drive a runner crazy.
I’m erring on the side of caution because my A #1 goal is getting myself across that London finish line in 35 days. (What??) Pushing too hard now and getting injured is the last thing I need.
Loving
I received my official Tokyo Marathon Finisher’s Certificate and 5th World Marathon Majors Star this week. After chasing the World Marathon Majors goal for 10 years, it’s time at last to alert the Abbott authorities so they’re ready with the 6-star hoopla in London. I can’t. Freaking. Believe it.
Watched
The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley. This is the story about Theranos, the company founded by 19 yr. old Stanford dropout Elizabeth Holmes. I well remember when she was all over the news with her “breakthrough” blood test that would change the world. This documentary was fascinating on so many levels. It was like the Biomedical field’s own Fyre Festival-caliber debacle but on an even grander scale.
Leaving Neverland. I made it through part one but this was so disturbing and hard to watch, I’m going to take a pass on part two. It’s the account of two boys, then aged 7 and 10, who were befriended by Michael Jackson at the height of his stardom. Heartbreaking. I’ll leave it there.
Be sure to join me right here this Friday for the March Edition of the Runfession Friday Linkup!
How was your week? Spring break plans? Congrats to everyone who ran the Los Angeles Marathon!
I’m linking up with Kim and Deborah for the Weekly Run Down. Join us!
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
I don’t have HBO, so haven’t seen either of the documentaries.
Hang in there! I bet as long as you keep being cautious you’ll be ok — our bodies just seem to like to complain. Those damn phantom pains!
Deborah Brooks says
nope you do not want to get injured now! Take extra rest days your body will thank you. The Theranos show I liked. I could not watch Neverland had to leave the room while hubs watched it was so disturbing. Glad to have you join the weekly run down
Wendy says
I’m so glad nothing happened to you today at the Shuffle! Now you can just baby those legs for a couple more weeks. It was so great to spend the morning with you!
I could not watch Finding Neverland. I”m sorry but MJ just gives me the creeps. I am intrigued by that Theranos story. Is it on Netlfix?
Kimberly Hatting says
I think you are training so smart, for Tokyo & now for London. You’re inspiring, and it’s exciting following you on your quest for the next World Major. Thanks for joining us in the WRD.
Coco says
So freaking excited for you for London! You are 100% right to be playing it safe! I wouldn’t even walk my dog at this point. 😉 I followed the Theranos story as it unfolded because many of my clients are in the diagnostic space. What a debacle. As for Neverland, it’s only one side of the story (or two?), but I have no problem believing it is true. Hurt people hurt people. Very sad. Let me end this on a happier note by suggesting the Green Book.
Cari says
Yeah, hard pass on Neverland.
Yay six-star hoopla!
Kim G says
You’re so smart to ply it safe and I’m sure that your body will appreciate a few extra rest days.
I heard about that documentary on Theranos and I really want to watch it. Just the little but that I’ve heard about the backstory makes me want to learn a whole lot more!
Black Knight says
I agree, you needed a few extra days to recover completely. Enjoy London!
Erica @ Erica Finds says
Sorry that I missed you at Shamrock! I didn’t realize you were going to be running! I saw Pete and Mo.
I read the book Bad Blood about Theranos. It’s unbelievable. I have to see the documentary.
Michelle C says
I am really having trouble making it through both leaving neverland 1 and 2. I can’t believe anyone would do that to a little child, both the mind games and the other stuff. What a monster. Makes me sick 🙁
Sandra Laflamme says
So exciting that you will be getting your 6 World Marathon Majors star in London. Keep that body healthy!!!
Allie says
OMG on the marathon majors!!!! How exciting!!! I’m sure you will be as fine as anyone can be running 2 marathons that close together – LOL 🙂 You are smart to take it easier and be cautious.
And I’ll take a hard pass on anything Michael Jackson related. I seriously don’t know how people can watch?!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Nothing wrong with extra rest days – it’s all about getting that final star!
I would definitely be interested in watching the Theranos story – I don’t think I could stomach Neverland.
Yay for spring break! Enjoy the warmer weather!
Zenaida Arroyo says
Remind me but where are you going this week? I feel like I should know but right now at 6am I cannot remember.
I am so excited for you too to run the London Marathon! Wished I were going too since I would love to go there one day.
Denise @ runheartfit says
You are such and inspiration Marcia! Keep doing what you’re doing.
I haven’t watched Neverland. I think Michael Jackson had a messed up life and turned into a messed up person. So sad.
