Under two weeks now until I head to Tokyo for a certain marathon. Weather stalking has commenced and for now it looks like I can expect low 40s to mid 50s, low humidity with ocean breezes and 20% chance of rain. Sounds perfecto for running to me, especially after being brutalized by Mom Nature for most of 2019 thus far.
While I’ll try hard not to over pack, I want to leave space to drag souvies home after all, we do have pre-race and post-race dinner festivities and the Teenager is lobbying hard to take a bullet train to Mt. Fuji, so certain non-running attire is required.
Here are some of the things I’m already throwing on the Tokyo Marathon “pile”:
Spibelt. I swear by the double pocket one for racecations and foreign travel. Tokyo checks both of those boxes of course. I keep running stuff in one pocket and hotel/ID/cash in the other. Works like a charm on and off the racecourse.
Nut Butter. Apparently this isn’t available in Tokyo so I’ll BYO stash.
Fré Skincare travel set. This skincare line was a game changer for me. It’s all-natural and specially formulated to keep sweaty, post-workout skin clean and fresh without drying it out. Valentine’s Day ONLY Fré is BOGO. Buy one product or set and get another FREE! My 3 favorite products are the Purify Me cleanser, Revive Me replenishing serum and Detox Me mask. Check it out here.
Recovery Supplements. I’m meticulous about recovery and I swear by these supplements from Now Foods. I know they’re a big reason I’ve managed to stay health all winter long despite the exhaustion of marathon training and all the bugs going around. Use MARCIANOW10 to save $10 when you spend $40 at nowfoods.com
Balega Silver Socks. Typically I wear Balega Blister-Resist or Hidden Comfort socks for marathons but the Silvers were fantastic with my new Asics Nimbus during my 20 miler so Silver it is! Plus who can resist pink and purple? Not I.
Great Lakes Gelatin Convenience packs. Two daily servings of collagen has been my routine for over a year now and I love the health benefits. I take that habit on the road with me with these single-serving convenience packs from Great Lakes Gelatin. Save 20% at greatlakesgelatin.com with GLGRunDefinitely20.
One week from today we’ll open the Runfession Friday Linkup! Join us!
What are your racecation travel essentials? Have any winter/spring trips planned?
I’m linking up with Lacey and Meranda for the Friday Five.

I also can’t believe it’s less than 2 weeks & the weather absolutely sounds perfect. I would LIVE to see Mt. Fuji! You are going to have an amazing time!
I actually do always take some nut butter with me. And some of my own baked goods. I actually brought my foam roller on this one — despite it just being 5 days I took a large checked bag — it’s how I roll. My roller is hollow so I was able to stuff things in the center & yes, i’ve Been using it,

Wow! It’s come so quickly! So exciting! I can’t believe they don’t have nut butters in Tokyo though!

Love all the things you listed, especially that spibelt. I didn’t know that they had a double one available so I’m going to check that out!

I have tried the Vital collagen and haven’t felt a difference maybe I need to try the one you use. I love packing nut butters when I travel.
Virjinia @ With Purpose and Kindness says
Those are definitely great travel essentials! Nut butters are a must for me too when I travel! I also try to pack a good book or magazine for flights and stuff. I hate reading off my phone for a long period of time. Good luck in Tokyo!

2 weeks! So excited for you!
I need to visit the NOW site – I need to re-visit my whole recovery game.

seems like you pretty much know what are “must-have” items for your suitcase! I can’t believe it’s only 2 weeks now!!!
I also tend to take certain items with me, but one thing we always take are “krentenbollen” – these are raisin rolls essentially and we eat them the day/evening before a race and race morning! usually with a little honey or even nutella or jam. These always go with us wherever we go! I would likely also bring my own gels depending on what brand the race has. And I’ve been known to take supplements too – usually magnesium citrate!

Your adventure is on the corner. Enjoy these few days of tapering before the “great day”. I have planned a trip to London in early march to watch the rugby match England-Italy, on the same day (in the morning) I will enter the Parkrun.

I agree with the Teenager re: Fuji. If you have time for an overnight, Kawaguchiko is a great town in the Fuji Five Lakes area (Fujigoko, I have no idea of its actual English name). Can make for a better chance of seeing Fuji-san since she’s temperamental.
Pink & purple!
Prepare to fall in love with Pocky.
