Here we are nearing the end THE END! of the beast of a month that is this February. I’m like a caged tiger circling (and packing and printing out a million things) as the days dwindle down toward the Tokyo Marathon. Before I hunker down for that 15 hour flight, let’s open the Runfessional. Priorities, right?
I runfess I’m coveting these shoes something fierce. Seriously all the jacking around I’ve done with a long-run shoe and as soon as I find one, I learn I could have had my Asics in this sweet Tokyo edition. Alas it appears they’re sold out in my size. I’ll keep an eye out in Tokyo just in case.
I runfess the bad manners in the school pickup line are wearing on me. Blame my adrenaline-charged stress/nerves heading into Tokyo, but it’s really getting to me when some parents think they’re more important than the rest of us and park in handicapped spaces without batting an eye. Some of them create their own line by double parking next to the official one, which not only blocks traffic but forces their kids to dart across traffic. I runfess I might have accidentally leaned my elbow on the horn when I got behind one of them. Put me down for a death glare too.
I runfess I felt a pang of FOMO when I got the email that the Lululemon Seawheeze lottery was open. Despite the rain and issues I had there last year, the course is one of the most beautiful I’ve ever run and I’d do it again in a heartbeat. College move-in for the teenager is that weekend though so sadly, I am out.
I runfess I find the Tokyo Marathon jacket to be…um…not the most attractive. But I’ll likely shell out thousands of yen for one anyway. It comes in black, yellow, navy and light blue. What color would you get?
I runfess that while Japanese running shoes are my jam (hello Asics, my love) I’m a tad worried about the sizing of the rest of the Tokyo gear. My feet may be petite flowers but I’ve got broad shoulders like nobody’s business and I fear I’ll need a Japanese XXL to accommodate my hulking mass.
I runfess I’m so excited about the Women’s Day 5k I’m going to make it my first post-marathon run upon my return from Tokyo. I mean how cute is that purple tank? The goal is to have runners from all 50 states participating and as many countries as well. Sign up here and save 15% with code RUNWITHME. While I’m planning to run on March 8, the run can be completed anytime in March.
Your turn: What have you to runfess? Have you entered the Lululemon lottery? Any lottery? Would you buy the official Tokyo jacket?

It’s funny about the jacket – the year I ran Boston (2015), the jackets were royal purple and bright orange. Yikes!! I thought they were ugly at first, but after I got mine, I have grown to love it. What’s more funny is that those jackets are $110 – but after the race they showed up in our local TJ Maxx store (in Ohio!) for $45!! What the heck?? It made me think my cherished jacket was going to be worn my random people who had not qualified, or run Boston. Oh noooooo! And I also thought people would think I bought mine at TJ Maxx. No one has ever asked me about it, thankfully.

For the Tokyo jacket, I prefer the black one. I’m just not a fan of that color blue…
The Tokyo sneakers are awesome! Hopefully you can get a pair at the expo. If not, maybe Asics will restock the on their website, or there’s always eBay!
Kimberly Hatting says
I am SOOOO excited for you!!!! Bummer on the shoes, but if by chance you’re able to score a pair, then go with the black jacket 😉 I do NOT miss the days of drop-off/pick-up. I’m such a rule follower, and seeing all the rudeness (and ignorance) just really annoys the %^*# out of me. Lucky for all the rule-breakers, I’m too nice to call them out on their behavior LOL

I feel for you on the parental pickup line woes. Since I live a block from the grade school, we experience that nonsense on a daily basis. Turning left into the parking lot and pulling out in front of me, doing a u-turn in the middle of my street, dropping their kid off in the middle of the street…it’s just crazy. My neighbors and I always have stories to share!
I’m so excited for you–too bad those shoes aren’t available. Wouldn’t that just be the icing on the cake? Good luck, or as they say in Japanese, ganbarou!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Those Tokyo shoes are pretty awesome – fingers crossed you can snag a pair at the expo. I also think I’d go for the jacket in either the black or navy.
Don’t even get me started on the pick-up line antics! I’ve been known to give out my fair share of death glares too.

OMG I’m so excited for you!!!…except for that plane ride – yikes! I actually like the simplicity of the jacket but not sure about color…the blue is nice?? Whatever happens over there, I hope you have an incredible experience!! Looking forward to stalking your social media feed 🙂

I’m pretty sure i’d Buy the jacket. Choosing a color would be hard, I’d normally lean towards navy, but light blue is more visible. I bought the jacket from my Austin half (second, was supposed to be my first, and of course home for many years).
Great minds think about shoes, obviously. My feet are big (hips, thighs, booty too) but the rest of me is petite. Not always easy to dress.
So excited to follow you on this journey!

Those Tokyo shoes are awesome. I hope you find some. I’d go with the black jacket. Basic black sort of goes with the low-key design. 😉 Ugh on the school pick up line. I think ours had to have teachers out there enforcing the rules.

Oh cuteness on the Tokyo shoes! Hope you find them in your size. I also can’t do the Seawheeze that weekend why did they change it? I will be doing the Zooma virtual as well. Very excited for you!
Erica @ Erica Finds says
I think blue! I’m so excited to follow you and others I know in Tokyo this year!
I did Seawheeze the first 2 years and love Vancouver but I think I’ll probably not do it again. It’s run its course for me. No pun intended.
Erica @ Erica Finds says
Oh and I signed up for Zooma virtual b/c I’m doing a 5K with Nuun on 3/8 at Expo West!

I think I would opt for the black jacket, but that’s just me. That would go with the black Asics (I’m going to assume they will have your size in Tokyo). My friend, Nancy left for Tokyo yesterday. She is going to do some touring before the race. Good luck to you gals!
Darlene says
The jacket is ugly but you will only run Tokyo once, right? Go for it. You bet, I’m buying the NYCM jacket no matter how it looks. I’d choose blue, I think. So excited for this experience. Counting down too!!
MCM Mama says
Altra has one of their shoes with a Tokyo design as well. I’m not running Tokyo, but I seriously want the shoes. That jacket doesn’t excite me, but I’m sure I’d buy it, sigh.
Becca | Rabbit Food Runner says
The Tokyo jacket… is pretty boring. I don’t even remember what my year was. Come to think of it… I don’t recall seeing jackets. Period. Regardless, have a blast!
Cari says
Japanese sizing… ooph. Could never buy shoes and I went to south Korea when I needed a wardrobe update. Seoul has a lot of military families shopping so stock sizes for a range of humans.
I don’t love the Tokyo jacket, but it could be cute in black
You’re going to rock!
The Accidental Marathoner says
I can’t believe Tokyo is already here! You will have an amazing race and an amazing time. Those jackets are beyond ugly, but given the choice, I would choose black. Can’t wait to hear about your adventures!
Thelma says
Lou, I hope you’re been Duolingo-ing Japanese and are now fluent so you can barter yourself a pair of those badass shoes! Oh man, it’s going to be so much fun ::squeal::. I say go for the black jacket, but I do like the blue too.
Zenaida Arroyo says
Love those shoes! So excited for you to run Tokyo and cannot wait to hear how it goes.
I like the blue jacket.
cathy says
oh yeah you have to get the jacket!!! I am a fan of bright colors so I would go with yellow! Love those Tokyo shoes! Wow! Almost there, so exciting!
