I’m supposed to be reviewing my year for the Tuesdays on the Run Linkup but I’m so far under water right now, it’s all I can do to recap last week. Speaking of that Linkup, my lovely co-hostesses and I agree, TOTR has run its course. There are a few weeks of topics left, so have at them if you are so inclined, but stick a fork in us, cuz we are done. It’s been fun but all good things come to an end sooner or later. Thanks everyone for joining us here over the years.
But wait, all is not lost, Zenaida and Kim have already expressed interest in carrying on the torch of a Tuesday running linkup. Stay tuned to them for that.
It was a cat-and-mouse kind of week. Between work, holidays, school obligations, kid and dog wrangling and home renovations, I was pulled in a million directions. With painters here all week, I squeezed in workouts where I could and called it a win.
Isn’t it amazing how, just like that, 6 weeks of Tokyo Marathon training have slipped away? Holiday chaos will do that I guess. Dare I say this week was halfway decent?
Monday: Rest
Tuesday: Run 3 trail miles + Strength
Wednesday: Run 4 miles
Thursday: Run 6 miles + Strength
Friday: Rest
Saturday: Run 15 miles (bowchickabowow)
Sunday: CrossFit
Mom Nature smiled and gave us mild (above freezing) temps and gorgeous hoarfrost. I’m holding renowned Weatherman Tom Skilling to his promise of a mild winter and this week he delivered. I delivered probably the longest run I’ve done since running the Berlin Marathon back in 2017. I’ve yet to adopt that marathon mindset where “only” 15 miles feels short.
In Other News…
I finally made some soup. Because I had no dry white wine laying around, I used a different recipe than usual for French Onion Soup, and while simpler overall, I think this recipe came out better. Don’t you love when that happens? I failed to take a pic but the recipe is here.
We attended the “Frozen Flutes” holiday concert starring Thing 2 and her music school. She joined this flute academy just 3 weeks ago and had to learn all the music for the performance in a very short amount of time. Her hard work paid off. I’m so proud of her.
A celebration at Main Street Social topped off with S’mores Lava Cake was a fun way to usher in a new year.
Oh right….and it’s my birthday. Cheers to another lap around the sun!

Could these holiday socks from Swiftwick be any cuter?
These Vision Five Snowflake socks are made of moisture-wicking merino wool that regulates temperature to keep your feet comfy but not overheated. They have medium cushion and a seamless toe to eliminate friction. I’ve been loving them on the trails lately. The snowflakes are so festive and there are also other holiday designs. Not only do you feel good when you wear them, Swiftwick donates a portion from each Vision sock sold to charitable initiatives, so you can feel good about buying them too. Get free 2-day shipping (in time for Christmas!) when you spend $100 until December 19.
How was your week? Are you feeling the holiday chaos?
I’m linking up with Wendy and Holly for the Weekly Wrap.

Happy Birthday and nice job on keeping up the training despite the chaos!

Happy birthday!
Kudos on keeping up the running amid all you have going on. Your Saturday mileage was a test of whether we’d say or sing bowchickawowow isn’t it. LOL.
I will miss TOTR, guess I need to get it together for runfessions and coffee.

I hope it’s been a festive day of celebration for you!! Bummer the link-up is winding down, but I can imagine the increased workload that comes with it. Congrats to the daughter! That’s a short turn-around for learning music! I also played the flute 😉 I love those snowflake socks…are they as cosy as they look?
Melissa says
It’s really time to day goodbye to TOTR? i will miss everyone! I do need to check out your other linkups but this has been my primary one. Great job keeping it together with so much going on.
Fairytales and fitness says
Aww we too will miss TOTR!
Thanks for hosting all these years. Are you slowing down in the blogging department or just giving up the link up? We’ve seen ourselves really slowing down with blogging this year.
Happy Birthday to you. I hope it was a good one!
Wendy says
I’m so sorry to see TOTR go to the great linkup in the sky. I’ve enjoyed the writing prompts. I do wonder tho–is blogging dying?
Anyhoo, I hope you enjoyed your birthday! Hope to see you soon. XOXO

Happy Birthday week! It does seem like these past 6 weeks have flown by, and I am not even counting anything down. I do love those socks! Congrats to Thing 2. You’ve got a gifted daughter. 😉

We will definitely miss TOTR. But it’s a lot of work so it’s understandable. How will we keep up with everyone????
Sounds like you did great this week all things considered. While we’ve had some mild weather, we’ve still had some winter-like weather, too (hello, 20 feels like 7 at the moment). But then it’s supposed to be 50 by sat — with rain, of course.
No holiday chaos for me. 🙂 That ends with Thanksgiving.
Laurie says
Happy birthday! Looks like you had a great running week – 15 mile long run. Go you! You are gonna crush Tokyo. I will miss TOTR, but I can understand it must be a lot of work.
Deborah Brooks says
Ooh that coffee topped with lava cake? Yum! Hope you had the happiest of birthdays. Congrats on your 15 miler I am sure that gave you a huge boost! Yay for your daughter stepping in and learning so quickly. Sad to see the TOTR go but link ups are a ton of work.

I hope that you had a wonderful birthday! That lava cake looks simply divine – yum!!
Great job on your 15 miler. You did a nice job of getting in some quality workouts despite everything that you had going on this past week.

Happy birthday! I’m not feeling the chaos exactly, I’m more looking forward to getting these next 3 days done and starting my vacation. I plan to have a lot of fun with parents, and also taking time to relax and enjoy the season. I’m really hoping 2019 is a really good year. I sure could use it.
Rachel says
Oh man, I’m so sorry to hear you guys are disbanding. But I totally, 100% get it. Hosting linkups is hard work!!
That s’mores mug looks amazing. I hope you had the best birthday. <3

Congrats on getting that long long run done amidst all the holiday chaos.
Zenaida Arroyo says
Is that what they said about winter? I heard it will be a very cold winter. I like your version better. Love those socks! I have one with the turkey that is perfect for Thanksgiving.

Happy Birthday! I feel your chaos — I can say I’ve never been as stressed at Christmas as I am this year Although I haven’t linked in a long time, I’m sorry to see TOTR go. I think a lot of bloggers have stopped blogging opting to use more “instant” social media platforms. Thanks for linking!
