Week 4 (and month 1) of Tokyo Marathon training is over. I won’t say it’s complete because my training wasn’t the smoothest and my long runs suffered. I hoped November would be the “easiest” month weather wise, cuz we know December, January and February will be no picnic, but Mom Nature had other plans, giving us one of the coldest, snowiest Novembers on record.
It was a run-on-the-treadmill kind of week. Our home renovations continue and I’m so SO happy to say that, as of Saturday, our hardwood floors are finally finito! They’ve been a long time coming, with no shortage of blood, sweat and tears, but I love how they turned out. We still have painters coming and two more furniture deliveries, but having the floors done is a huge sigh of relief.
Not a great pic but you can get an idea of how dark the new floors are.
This week I basically lived in the basement to stay out of the way of the floor guys as they tore out our old blonde maple and installed new Bison Oak. The dogs were pretty upset by the change in routine and as a result I had Ozzy in tow at all times, which meant no outdoor runs. Not a huge deal since the weather was pretty much crapola anyway.
Monday: Rest
Tuesday: Speedwork on the mill alternating 400s/800s
Wednesday: Strength
Thursday: Rest
Friday: Treadmill Run 4 miles
Saturday: Strength
Sunday: 2 hr. Cardio Palooza at the gym
Thanks to winter storm Bruce (you know it’s a big deal when it gets a name) we started the week with a snow day, which is pretty much unheard of here in November. I was grateful for my rest day, and that our power stayed on, since 25% of our town was not so lucky. My poor mom was without power for a couple of days.
About that Cardio Palooza…
It rained all day Saturday and was still coming down Sunday morning when I had my coffee. There was supposed to be a window of clear time, but I opted not to wait, because the longer I put off my run, the less likely it is I’ll actually do it. So the Caveman and I headed to the gym where I ran on the Woodway for an hour then did 20 minutes each on the Step Mill, Rower and Assault Bike for a total of 2 hours of cardio. It’s not the long run prescribed on my training plan but it’ll have to do.

I won an Insta giveaway for these Caveman Protein Bars and wow they are so flipping good and the ingredients get two thumbs up!
Best Black Friday Deal
Who knew push ups could pay off? I’d been keeping an eye out for a coffee table tray. On black Friday I spotted one at Pier One and was pretty miffed when I learned it was not on sale. Figures. Then, near the register, I spotted a guy doing push ups on a piece of shag carpet. Turns out they were running a promotion where you could get $1 off of one item for every push up you could do, up to 50. Well hello lover! You know what I did to drag home that tray at a $50 discount right? Oh and for the record, the guy did 30 push ups. Ok I’ll behave now.
How was your week? Crazy weather? What would you do for a discount? My giveaway ends soon! Get in to win!

OMG, seriously? That is the funniest Black Friday story yet. Way to go and save $$!
I did not know the blizzard was named Bruce. Now it all makes sense…

OMG!!! I”d do push-ups for a discount like that! I’d even do burpees (because I am no longer afraid of those either). Way to go! The wood floors look beautiful 😉

That’s hilarious about the push ups! I love that story. It really does pay to be in good shape!

Love your flooring!
What a crazy discount but way to encourage healthy behavior after Thanksgiving overindulgence.

Now that is a good Black Friday story!
I love how dark your floors are! It must be such a relief to have that work behind you.

OMG on the push-ups! Did a clerk have to keep count? I wish I could have seen them as you pumped out 50! That’s a coffee table tray with a great story. I love your floors too. Are those all nick names for the gym equipment or special models?

WTG on 50 pushups! I’m not sure I would’ve made it that long. My record is 30-something, and then my arms are jello. Love the new hardwood floors! My townhouse needs new carpet since it wasn’t installed fully properly and there’s a seem that keeps splitting.
Sherry says
Wow! Awesome way to get a discount! Love the dark floors.

I hope the weather starts cooperating for your training! Winter marathon training has so many unknowns. That cardio palooza seems like a good workout!

I LOVE that idea for a Black Friday deal!! Way to go! I can’t believe you’re a month into Tokyo training already, time flies!
HoHo Runs says
You know Pier One thought very few (or no) people would do fifty pushups. And then BOOM. Love it! Your dark wood floors are very pretty. We did that a few years ago. Best decision ever. Maybe your December will be warmer than usual? Thanks for linking!
Thelma says
I think I could train like a madwoman everyday for a year and still never do 50 pushups! You go Lou!
Allie says
OMG that push up story at Pier One is the best!! More stores should do THAT for discounts!! And your floors look gorgeous!
We benefited from storm Bruce by skiing in it up in Vermont!! It was awesome but I know it’s a lot of snow for November…
Hope you have a good training week this week without the weather complications.

Interesting way to save a buck 🙂 I guess you might as well give it a shot for a discount!

LOL about the pushups for the discount! There was the time I pulled the shoe carousel out of a dumpster and carried it the 1/4 mile or so home (actually, closer to half a mile). We’re still using it today. 🙂 Not quite as nutty . . .
Our weather actually took a turn for the better, I think it’s been 3 days since it rained . . . but it also turned back into winter temp-wise.
I still remember when we had our kitchen redone, camping out with the dogs on the first floor (raised ranch, no basement), the cats locked into the laundry room — but yes, it was worth it in the end!
Hope you get a break in winter & can get back to more normal training.

That is so funny about the coffee table tray! Several years ago we had a very fit (and hot-looking, if I might add) medical student on our team. He challenged me to a push-up contest and there was no way I was going to lose. He asked me if I wanted to do the ‘girl kind’ and I said, “you can, if you want”. I think he stopped at 35 and I went until 56. He bought me an incredibly nice bottle of wine for beating him!
