Happy Friday party people! Are you all in for the holidays? I sure am. Buckle up cuz things are going to get busier than they already are.
Although I know I made the right decision to DNS Philly this weekend, I’m feeling unexpectedly blue about it. I hate signing up for races then not running them. I hate not seeing my friends even more. Especially now that my hip is 100%, every email I get with my bib number, runner tracking, etc. is like a tiny knife in my runner’s heart.
It was pretty cool to see the Abbott World Marathon Majors people do the drawing on Twitter for the six 5-star finishers getting a free entry into Tokyo. I’m not sure when they’ll do the drawing for London, but I’m really pulling for Becca on that one!
The poop on my sleeve was nowhere near as artistic as this
I’m pretty sure I got pooped on during my long run over the weekend. I was wearing a windbreaker and toward the end of my run I noticed what looked like crushed berries sort of on the back of my arm. I can’t recall leaning on or brushing up against anything so I’m going to have to blame it on birds.
Speaking of birds, it’s been coldAF the past couple of weeks but I noticed the robins haven’t migrated South. I suspect they instinctively know when it’s migration time (which typically is in October in this area). Since they haven’t gone anywhere I’m going to conclude this cold snap is an aberration and as soon as it passes, we’re in for a mild winter. Hear that Momma N? MILD WINTER!
The ZOOMA Women’s Race Series is looking for ambassadors for their Texas-Lost Pines race on March 8-9. In 2019 there’s also a ZOOMA Texas Wine Country Race Series on November 1-2. Run them both to complete the Texas 2-Step Challenge. Sounds fun, yes? Find the ambassador application here.
With the holidays approaching, my friend Nana’s having a private jewelry sale. Snag some great deals on running-themed pieces and “civilian” stuff as well. It’s a private sale so to get the deals sent to your inbox you need to subscribe here by Sunday.
Any fun plans this weekend? Thanksgiving plans? Have you started holiday shopping? Ever been pooped on?
I’m linking up with Meranda and Lacey for the Friday Five.

I always feel like I am missing out on marathons when I don’t run one in November. I cant believe its been 3 years since my last one! I haven’t even thought about holiday shopping. Maybe I’ll do some online shopping over Thanksgiving weekend.

The only poop I saw and it was in abundance, was on the ground at Lake Arlington. The geese were out on the pond but they left their mark on the path. It was like running an obstacle course. Ewww.
I hope Mama N is your BFF and telling you the truth!

I don’t want to say I’ve never been pooped on because you know it will happen. We even have birds that build a nest year after year in the light over our front door, which obviously we rarely use.
I think you dodged a bullet with Philly, quite frankly, considering our weather at the moment — snow & freezing rain & traffic jams have been everywhere. I have to imagine they’re getting some, too. I’m not so sure about the mild winter, but I’d be totally down with it. We didn’t get fall (just like we didn’t get spring).
Those are lovely areas of TX but can’t do it.

It’s supposed to be good luck, at least! I would have FOMO over Philly, but as Judy said, I’d be worrying about the road conditions after yesterdays snow. I am going to try to celebrate my birthday this weekend before I do the last of the Thanksgiving grocery shopping ….

Sorry you have the Philly blues. Years ago, I had signed up for MCM with hubby, then got the flu one day before the race. I couldn’t run it and was a little jealous of Bill getting to run such an awesome race. I finally got to do it this year. Maybe you will do Philly another year. You have a lot on your plate right now with Tokyo and London!

That’s interesting about the birds. I still see them around too!
I am confused about you running Philly. I got from your last post that you were DNS the marathon and assumed you were not making the trip to PA but then you went on to say you were running the half instead. I suppose you are not running Philly half then, was it another you were speaking of? Now I feel I need to go back and reread…haha.
Thanks for linking up.

I have been pooped on a number of times. I must attract it

I will miss seeing you in Philly this weekend for sure. You have so many fun races on your schedule we are all going to have FOMO of you!

Too funny (though icky!) on the poop LOL At a graduation party, I had a full plate of food (including a corner piece of cake), and there was a flyover, and a deposit made on my plate. It didn’t hit the cake…but I had to sacrifice that to the garbage. So nasty!!

Those emails do hurt. I DNS’d a race in 2013 when my ITBS was really bad. I know I made the right choice, and it hurt all the same. No packet pickup, no pinning on the bib. Then it poured (I mean POURED) that morning so I didn’t feel as bad.

I’ve never been pooped on! I do remember one time when I was a kid, my parents took me and my brothers out for ice cream and a bird pooped on my dad’s ice cream cone! I did not get any Christmas presents yet. I am out of ideas. I do mostly everything online so I’m not worried yet.

I totally feel ya, I was really excited about running CIM here next month and a double round of flu followed by pneumonia completely wrecked me. I am better and back to running but I am not recovered enough to do any structured training or long runs. I may just run the course easy to become familiar with logistics.
The detail about poop, hilarious. Good luck on recovery!

I was supposed to run a 5k today. Cancelled due to the weather. I’m sorta glad cuz I’m tired. Tomorrow there was a fun Raffle run. Cancelled as well. That I’m bummed about. Instead I’m running with friends if we can find a clear path.
I’m hating winter already and it’s only November.

I totally get the FOMO – it’s never fun to DNS. But it sounds like it was the right choice. Glad your hip is feeling better!
