We’re playing favorites here at Tuesdays on the Run. Favorite running cities, that is. We wanna know about the place(s) you love most for running and why.
Favorite Running Cities
I’ll be the first to admit I’ve been blessed in the global running department. Partly because I had the opportunity to live in Europe and the UK for a few years, partly because I tend to be a tad intrepid. When I think of rave runs, several come to mind. Heck some of my runs have been downright ragers. When it comes to picking favorites, two things are most important: Safety and scenery.
In Michigan at peak fall color time
Gasping for breath on the trails at 10,000 ft elevation in Leadville Colorado
Starting down the mountain with the moon setting in front of me and the sun rising behind me in Utah
Running under the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin
Making the right on Hereford and left on Boylston to finish the Boston Marathon
Running through the National Mall in Washington DC
The Lakefront Path here in Chicago
My trails here at home
In Carlsbad, California along the ocean with BRFs
Along the Seine in Paris...or through the Tuilleries Gardens
Along the Thames in London
Along the canals in Amsterdam
Along lavender-lined lanes in the South of France
Among the ruins in Rome
Along the Liffey River in Dublin
Along the sea wall in Stanley Park in Vancouver
In the searing heat/humidity of Dubai
Through Central Park in NYC
Running truly is the best way to tour a city and soak in all of the wonderful sights, smells and cultures of its residents. I can’t think of a better way to see the world. The truth is I can’t really pick one favorite city. They’re all special in their own unique way.
Your turn: What are your favorite cities for running and why?

I wish I was a runner when I lived in Osaka and Brisbane. When calendars work and you & I meet up somewhere it’s going to be a major travel conversation.
This was wonderfully hard – and I loved it. Did you run Leadville?
(If there was meant to be a Rome photo, it didn’t show)

Awwwww π I recognize the gals in the Lakefront pic π I did give Chicago a mention in my post as well, but had to highlight Des Moines…since I’ve done like what seems like 100+ races there.

I don’t think I would be able to choose one either! Your pictures are so beautiful that I don’t blame you. You have been to so many places in and outside the United States!

I love exploring a new place via running! Sadly, for much of my European travels, I wasn’t a runner. I hadn’t started yet. And by the time I had, I was in a city that wasn’t easily runnable — for me, from where we were staying — Prague.
Running along the Seine must be amazing! I know I loved walking along it. π

You are just so fortunate to have run in so many places! Running takes us on some really fun journeys.

Wow you have really run in some amazing places all around the globe!

So. Many. Beautiful. Places. I loved running through the Brandenburg Gate too. That was a favorite memory. I have never run in Leadville, but Steamboat Springs, at 7,000 feet makes me gasp for air. I think my favorite cities to run in might be Denver, CO and Pittsburgh, PA. Both have lovely trails beside rivers that I run on whenever I visit.

You’ve run in some awesome places! I love to run where there are dedicated running paths and nice scenery –whether it’s nature or skylines.

You are lucky. I wish I was a runner sooner so when I traveled for work, I could have run in many cities in the US.
So far my favorites are Paris and NYC. I do want to run in Chicago.

You truly have run in some awesome locales! I can see why it would be hard to pick a favorite!

You’ve definitely been to some great places. I wish I could’ve run in Alaska, but it didn’t work out that way. Right now I’m looking at a European vacation cruise in a couple years, and I’d like to run in Amsterdam.

I haven’t gotten to travel as much for runnign as I would like. I did love my trip to Boston, and will be heading to Sacramento here soon. Three running trips already scheduled for 2019!

you have had the chance to run in some pretty epic places! Looks like you have a bunch more in store for next year. You never know where your running shoes will take you

Wow, you’ve run in so many interesting places!!! Excited to see where else you to go. I do know you are going to Tokyo and London, right?
Thelma says
YAY, I made your list (sorta π ) twice!!!!
Despite all the hiccups and headaches with Carlsbad, that was a pretty race and a fun girls weekend (most of the time π ). And nothing will ever top you being with me in Leadville. When are you coming back??? π
I thought Indianapolis was really cool downtown. But Karen didn’t make you wander all over the damn place since you got the luxury of running the full :). But it was surprisingly pretty with some neat things to do. The Park City Marathon was very pretty. I loved wandering in and out of all the various neighborhoods in Chicago – you could literally feel the different cultures in each. Albuquerque was cool too along the Rio Grande River. One of the most beautiful races I’ve done was the 52-miler in the Bighorn Mountains of Wyoming (really, there was no actual town!). Gosh, there’s so many…..each unique in their own way. I never found Boston to be a very scenic race except for the last few miles when you run along the tree-lined streets filled with brownstones, but that race is hands-down one of the most special for me. But the best races are those I get to run with my BRF (It’s been WAY too long!!).
