It was another whirlwind week. While I was shocked and elated to make it through the London Marathon lottery a couple of weeks ago, getting a spot in the Tokyo Marathon last week really threw me for a loop…and forced me to give serious thought to Tokyo Marathon training. Sooner than later. I’d planned to officially start training for London right around Christmas. With the addition of Tokyo, training needs to start closer to Halloween. Yowza.
Tokyo Marathon Training
I can’t remember the last time I was very dedicated to my training. Maybe Berlin last year but working around an injury threw a kink in it. Let’s just say it’s been awhile since I trained well.
I know from past experience that my optimal mix of weekly workouts is as follows:
- 3-4 runs
- 2 Strength sessions
- 2 Cycle
- 2 Yoga
This week was about booking flights and hotels, oh and a little running too. Our recent cold snap makes running SO much more enjoyable. Except when it’s windy AF.
I survived nanny duty for Hurricane MIL and her broken leg. In fact I was there two days. Maybe that’s why good karma has been raining down on me lately. Let’s just say spending time with her makes me ponder the meaning of authenticity. Are we who we present ourselves to be? Are we sincere? Humble? Or are we artificial? Contrived? Masking our insecurities with a false front to impress others? Just some food for thought, I’ll bite my tongue now.
Ready for something out of this world? Spandits brought back a classic: Galactic print is back for a limited time and SHIPPING IS FREE ON EVERYTHING until Halloween! Remember SPANDITSLOVE saves you 10% too. Tell them I sent you.
The Runfession Friday Linkup opens this Friday! Join us! As per usual I’ve got plenty to get off my chest.
How was your week? Any exciting races on the horizon? Travels? How do you deal with inauthentic people?

It’s so awesome that you got into Tokyo and London! Hopefully you will have decent weather for training. It’s really been nice running in the cooler weather lately. Glad you survived taking care of your MIL!

I am so excited for you! Yes, I do think your penance doing time as your MIL’s caretaker had something to do with your luck. Life balances out (a PoPo-ism). Hmmm…maybe I should go see my brother… I wish you a wonderful and healthy training cycle. Thanks for linking!

I still can’t believe you got into BOTH London and Tokyo! When is Tokyo? I like how balanced your plan is, but doing the math you need to double up some of those workouts.
LOL on the MIL MEME — nailed.it.

I still can’t believe you got into both Tokyo and London…did you buy your lottery ticket because you need to ride that streak of luck!

Is the Tokyo marathon before London? You are going to have one busy 2019!
Just wondering, do any of your inlaws read your blog?????
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Tokyo and London are going to make for an amazing 2019! How much time will you have between the races?
Lesley says
Hopefully cooler weather and winter will bring about a good training cycle.

Oh my, those tights are awesome!
I owe you an email about Japan – I’ll do it this week
Glad your MIL came through OK

You are a patient woman for taking care of your MIL…I know the feeling. Glad all is well though.
So awesome you are running Tokyo and London in the same year! What a fun spring you’ll have 🙂 It will be interesting to hear which you like more doing them so close together…it’s often hard to separate your personal performance from the race itself, but they are both two of my top favorite marathons.

Wowee, getting through BOTH those terribly hard lotteries, well done! I hope you bought a lotto ticket, too! I didn’t get into London in the lottery but am going to try for my club’s lottery, we usually get two places and quite a few people have done it so far so fingers crossed. Good luck with the training, and how exciting!
Sorry about the in-laws, it’s a shame but so common.

The wind this week has been something else. Seriously, why can’t we just have perfect???

OMG Tokyo too? This is getting crazy woman!! I’m super excited for you and glad you got MIL duty out of the way so you can get your focus back 🙂 Good luck with the start of training!! It’s going to be a great year…

I’m looking forward to following your training! Maybe you’ll inspire me to get serious about running again. Or not….
Inauthentic people? Trust me, they’re reading this, and not getting it…you are a saint for helping your MIL. But that’s what good people do.

It is crazy fun that you got into both races! I am impressed that you will be able to do yoga and cycling and ST along with all the running. I am excited for you!
Kim G says
Wow, you definitely had a busy week!
I’m still in shock that you got into both London and Tokyo, but like you said, it’s good karma shining down on you for having to deal with your MIL. Even though it wasn’t easy, you still stepped up to help because you are such a nice and genuine person.
It’s hard to deal with inauthentic people because their energy can be toxic. I do try to avoid those types of people if I can but it’s hard when it’s family.
Debbie says
It’s so amazing that you got into both races. You must know somebody important! It will be fun to follow along with your training. I’m getting ready to start training for Phoenix (which sounds so much more boring than training for Tokyo!).
Teresa says
Nothing like TWO international marathons in one year to get your butt in gear, right???? I’m so excited for you and can’t wait to follow along on the journey! P.S. Your MIL memes and comments seriously crack me up! Lol
Laura says
That’s so exciting that you got into BOTH! What are the chances? Looking forward to following along! I finally settled on a fall half and am still wondering if I can squeeze in a full before spring… we’ll see!
