The first week of fall found me in full-on recovery mode. While the rest of my body felt quite good after Seawheeze, my poor feet did not. Ground beef comes to mind. So I sort of dropped running this week, and opted for rest, mostly. Here’s how the week went:
Monday: Rest
Tuesday: Rest
Wednesday: Strength, Yoga
Thursday: Yoga
Friday: Run 3 trail miles
Saturday: Run (aggravated my feet)
Sunday: CrossFit meh
Seems like “dropping things” was a theme this week. Weight Watchers dropped their name and is opting for WW instead, to focus more on Wellness. The BAA dropped their Boston Qualifying times across the board, so now hopefully people who qualify will actually get the opportunity to run. Dunkin Donuts dropped Donuts from their name, opting for straight up “Dunkin” going forward. Those are all “drops” I can get behind.
The temperature dropped. Fall blew in officially this week and Mom Nature sent us some fall-like temps. 40 degrees = glorious running weather for this girl. It felt great to wear capris and long sleeves. While my feet felt fine in my trail shoes, they were not ready to go back to the Mizunos.
While my Wave Sky shoes were the root of my Seawheeze foot debacle, even my Wave Riders were SOBs this week. I’m thinking I’m either going to let my feet heal up a good long time or find a totally different long run shoe, which leads me to the next thing I’m dropping.
I’m dropping my plan to run the Philadelphia Marathon. My heart just isn’t in it. It never was. Sure I could cobble together a half-assed attempt but I’m just not up for it. I don’t need that pressure hanging over my head. Most likely I’ll run the half and 8k instead. I feel better already.
I dropped my interest in summer. Of course I love summer but I decided I’m done hanging on. Summer was great while it lasted but it’s October after all. Instead of waiting until it got to be about 50 degrees in the house like I usually do, I bit the bullet and turned on the heat. I also dragged home a few pumpkins, and got my cinnamon/clove/nutmeg essential oils going in the diffuser. Like I said, I’m all in for fall.
Looking ahead
It’s going to be a busy month. I will be single parenting the entire month. As if that weren’t enough, we’re heading out for two more college visits: UNC and U Michigan. And, we’re undertaking a large home renovation, including replacing the hardwood on the entire first floor. While I’m very much looking forward to the finished product, I am not relishing having our home invaded by workmen. Let’s not even talk about the mess.
Hot List
Now Foods has done it again:
Vanilla Stevia packs. I’ve used Stevia in my coffee for years and I love keeping it on hand in my purse/carry-on. This Vanilla-flavored Stevia from Now Foods is SO good and super convenient!
English Toffee Stevia. Seriously how genius is this? I love a flavored coffee as much as the next girl but I rarely if ever indulge because of the billion grams of sugar involved. A few drops of this in my java does the trick!
How was your week? Are you embracing fall? Dropping anything?
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
I had no idea that Dunkin Donuts was changing their name! Sorry your feet are still giving you problems. It sounds like a good plan to drop down to a shorter distance to Philly. No need to push yourself if you’re not feeling it!
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
Wow. You have a lot on your plate!
Temps are going back & forth this week back home. It’ll be cool tomorrow but then they’re going up again . . . we’re still gonna need that new AC.
Your poor feet. 🙁 Hope they heal up sooner, not later!

Well, the change of seasons is one thing I like about Midwest living…but Momma N wasn’t too gradual in her transition to fall (at least in my area). She’s making it tough for me to embrace all things fall (as I type), but I know I’ll adjust. Hope your feet are rallying back!

I kind of like what Weight Watchers is doing. I think focusing more on wellness vs just on weight will be a good thing. I laughed at Dunkin wanted to drop donuts from its name…I’m still calling it Dunkin Donuts, lol.
I think you are making the right decision when it comes to the Philadelphia Marathon. If your heart is not in it, then it’s really not worth it. And like you said, why struggle through the full distance when you can run the 8k and the half!
That NOW Foods french vanilla stevia looks really good!

I’m not one bit surprised that you’re dropping the marathon. Especially since your feet are ground beef. I think it’s a wise decision.
I turned on the heat too. I’m not one of those people who adhere to the calendar. If it’s cold, the heat goes on.

Love the connection of all the “dropped” things this week! So true! What a week.
Good for you for listening to your body post- Sea Wheeze!
Coco says
I vote you give your feet time to heal. And maybe try new shoes after that. I hope the floors will be done while you’re on a college visit? That is a very messy process!
Is Philly in November? I’ve got my eye on the Half …

I love the temperature dropping! I’m dropping Chicago and opting for rehab and base building instead of another marathon 🙂

I’m with you on all the drops!! I love it and I absolutely love fall – bring it on!! Good luck with the solo parenting – I’m doing a lot of that myself lately but don’t have high schoolers. Good for you dropping big goals you don’t really want…I mean, what’s the point? Have fun with fall and getting your feet completely healed.
The Accidental Marathoner says
Wow, you sure do have a lot going on right now! It’s a mixed blessing with your feet–taking the time to let them heal will give you a little more time to get all of your other stuff done! We have the heat on in our house. My 89-year old mother would freeze to death if we didn’t!
Deborah Brooks says
Sounds like you made the right decision on the marathon. Now I will see you and maybe get to run with you for a bit at the half. Hope that takes a weight off your shoulders. Have a great week! Oh and I think you are right about Seawheeze now being college drop off week and prob a lot hotter too! Bummer
Darlene says
Hope you feet heal up. I know that foot pain unfortunately.
You did the right thing about the marathon. That’s a big undertaking. Even 13.1 is in my book.
What am I dropping?? Housework, cooking, timely race recaps….
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
Oh no I’m sorry to hear about your feet! I’ll have to read back to find out what happened….sounds like rest was the right call!
Hmm I would love to drop just a pound or two before my wedding this month, LOL, but I’m trying not to worry about that too much! Are you growing pumpkins this year? We had the ones that “grew wild” last year and I’m still traumatized from the nasty squash bugs!
Lesley says
I dropped my last job and my bank last week. Now I have a new bank closer to my new job! I hadn’t heard that about Dunkin’s, and then again I rarely say the Donuts.
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Oh my gosh, I hope your feet heal quickly – sounds so painful. Definitely not worth running a marathon (or any race really) if your heart’s not in it. Good luck with your floors – I’ve been dying to have our first floor re-done, but I run-fess that I’m not ready to live through the chaos and workmen.
HoHo Runs says
I WISH I could drop our temperatures. And, I NEED to drop the five pounds I’ve gained over the summer. But, I WILL sadly drop a hefty sum of money on new Mizunos. I can’t find the ones I like on sale. Thanks for linking!
Cari says
Ooh I need to look for the vanilla stevia.
WW made me laugh. Your name should be part of your elevator pitch. This just makes theirs longer, although I understand the shift from weight to wellness. I always thought they’d go WeWa.
Dunkin’ rebrand has started to roll out here. It’s weird to see
