Just like that, the weeks have passed, summer’s (mostly) over and, ready or not, it’s race week. Two of my fall races (Zooma Great Lakes and Lululemon Sea Wheeze) are just about here. Here’s how training went during our “short” week after Labor Day:
Race Week Training
Monday: Rest (spent the day at the in-laws’ so not really rest)
Tuesday: 3 mile steamy wog + Upper Body Strength
Wednesday: Treadmill Speedwork + Leg Day
Thursday: Rest
Friday: Run 10 miles
Saturday: 3 trail miles with Ozzypup
Sunday: CrossFit
The first half of the week was the standard issue, sweltering hot, swamp air that has been so popular around here lately. I was so worn down by the humidity that I opted for a hump day romp on the treadmill.
After that though, Mom Nature had mercy on us and blessed us with lower humidity and cool breezes. A preview of fall for sure. While my 10 miler was nothing to write home about, at least it wasn’t a billion degrees. I was doing so well with my new thyroid meds, but then they failed to ship from the out-of-state compounding pharmacy where they’re made. That snafu resulted in me going without for 2+ weeks, and I can already feel the difference. Weak, winded, blah. Seems like it’s always something. Sigh.
Saturday dawned cool and blustery. So cool in fact that I couldn’t resist getting out for a few recovery miles with Ozzy, who loves trails as much as I do. My training has been so spotty lately I need all the miles I can get. For the record my long sleeves would have been way too much if I hadn’t been walk/running.
Even though the heat and humidity are expected to return by midweek, I’m excited to be heading up to Lake Delavan, Wisconsin on Friday for the Zooma Great Lakes Half Marathon weekend! Let’s get this party started!
Loving
Starbucks new Protein Cold Brew. I had the cacao one. At first it tasted neither like coffee nor cacao but it grew on me as I sipped.
Track scouts. The teenager is being scouted by colleges for track and field. After all she’s been through with injuries and her coach not letting her run, this is sweet, sweet redemption.
Not Loving
I might not have any “official” Lulu race gear but I’ve got my Sea Wheeze wristband, which apparently is the key to the entire weekend. Now if I can just remember to pack it…
Lululemon shared a super-secret preview link for official Sea Wheeze race gear. Because I’m trying to follow my own advice and work more efficiently, I don’t check emails constantly. I didn’t see the email until about 3 hours after it was sent. Almost everything was already sold out.
How was your week? Did it cool off for you? What’s your fave Starbucks drink?
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
Hopefully you will have some good weather for your race! That’s really annoying that your meds haven’t shipped. I hope they come soon!
Wendy says
Lulu knows how to work the hype machine, don’t they? At least ZOOMA will be more low key. I’m looking forward to it!
Kim G says
That’s a bummer about the Seawheeze merchandise being sold out so quickly 🙁
Good luck this weekend at your race!
Liz Dexter says
Good luck with your racing! I like a Starbucks skinny muffin best of all because I don’t know what they’re made of but they fit my (personal) anti-cholesterol regime and don’t make me feel unwell. Hooray!
Becca | Rabbit Food Runner says
It’s race week for me too – YIKES! I’ve read your Berlin recap a few times now ha. Good luck with your races, I’ve heard great things about Sea Wheeze

I think we’re gonna keep our cool temps for the majority of the week (at least in the early hours when I’ll be outside breaking my sweat). It was 52F this morning, though…a bit too cool this early into “fall” for my taste. First world probs.
Jennifer @ Fit Nana says
This week was definitely something. I wouldn’t say we had “cooler temps” but a “cold front” brought us down to the upper 80s, feels like 90s, from 90s feels like 100+. Woo. LOL I’ve got my fingers crossed for great weather for you this weekend!
And what the heck with your meds? How frustrating! I hope they show up soon!!
Lesley says
Put your wristband in your suitcase right now! Whenever I remember I need to pack something for trips, I put them in my suitcase so I don’t have to remember again. They may not make it on my packing list either.

That Starbuck drink sounds tasty. It was so yucky and rainy here this weekend that I didn’t get any runs in unfortunately
Coco says
What?! How could their race gear sell out so quickly? Seems like they are trying to make things hard to find so you will buy more and pay more when you find it. That said, I can’t wait to hear about it because, Vancouver! I’m sure you’re going to have fun at Zooma! Yay for your daughter being scouted. We saw some ugly sides of that too, but it worked out well and for the best for my son.

Things have finally cooled off here. 53 degrees this morning felt freezing cold but amazing on my run. I’ve heard mixed reviews about the new Starbucks drink. A friend told me it was too gritty. I still need to try it.
Cari says
I’ve been curious about the Starbucks protein drinks, only seen the almond one here and it was out of stock when I went so I went with my white chocolate mocha. Mint in winter though.
Humid wog is perfect description. I think hope we’re done with the heat but this weekend was glorious! Even damp
Sherry says
Great to hear things are cooling down. Have fun and good luck on your race next weekend! I didn’t know Starbucks had protein drinks, that’s interesting.
Allie says
Sold out in three hours? What the…? I have to say, I’ve never been a big fan of Lululemon (I know I’m the only one) but really? That’s ridiculous! And, speaking of, it’s insanely ridiculous in the BEST way that your daughter is being scouted!!! Wow!! How amazing!! So happy for you and her – hard work pays off.
Good luck with your races. Sounds like a great few weeks headed your way…
Darlene says
That race sounds fun. Good luck.
We had hit weather and then it cooled off this weekend. Rain today.
Haven’t tried that drink. Yet.
I used to live their banana chocolate smoothies which they continued. I like the cinnamon dolce latte.
Sandra D Laflamme says
It has cooled off in NH. Sweater weather for a few days then back to the 80’s! I can relate to your thyroid med issue. I have Hashimoto’s and can tell when things are off. Hope you got that all straightened out!
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
You’re going to have so much fun this weekend, I just know it! The race is just the cherry on top.
It did cool off for us — thank God, because we’re still sans AC (although the new new unit is going in as we speak & they tested it & say it’s actually working). We don’t need it today, but I’m betting by tomorrow afternoon we will, so just in time!
Don’t drink coffee & never stop at Starbucks.
Maybe missing the race stuff was a blessing in disguise?
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
Nice job with your workouts! The cooler running weather must have been refreshing, but it still feels really weird! I did hear about that Starbucks drink but the only thing I get there is a chai latte or one of the holiday latte’s, but that’s very rare!
I hope things will get better once your meds come in! And your daughter being scouted is so cool!
HoHo Runs says
I have not one single piece of Lululemon in my closet. I guess I don’t know what I’m missing? I haven’t tried the protein cold brews yet. I’m still stuck on my Iced, Venti, 3-Pump, White Chocolate Mocho with No Whip. Yes, I can say that in my sleep. Have fun at the race this weekend! Hope the weather is cool for you too. Thanks for linking!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Just 3 hours?! Hmm perhaps Lulu is just creating hype again? I recently tried the Cacao Protein Cold Brew and I’m hooked! Congrats to your daughter on being scouted!
Debbie says
Good luck and have fun at your half this weekend! I hope the weather cooperates.
