Our Tuesdays on the Run Linkup is all about fall running favorites. Even though fall doesn’t technically arrive until later this month, for all intents and purposes it’s here already…even though you’d never know it by looking at the thermometer.
While training through the summer for fall races has been brutal this year, fall running through the cool air and crisp, colorful leaves, is some of the best running in these parts.
I have 4 races coming up:
- September 14: Zooma Great Lakes Half Marathon
- September 21: Lululemon Sea Wheeze Half Marathon
- November 17-18: Philadelphia 8k + Marathon
Here are some of my favorite products that are helping me train:
Bug Ban Bug Spray from Now Foods. Since all of my long runs have been on trails, insect repellent is a must. Nothing will drive me out of my “zone” faster than having mosquitoes buzzing around me. Bug Ban keeps bugs away without the use of harsh chemicals. A blend of essential oil extracts including citronella, lemongrass, rosemary and thyme does the trick. Smells nice too!
Magnesium Flakes. Marathon training means longer runs. Longer runs mean more attention to post-workout recovery. While I haven’t done a full-on ice bath recently, I have been taking a “cool” bath infused with Magnesium flakes from Now Foods. I swear by it to help my legs feel fresher sooner, with minimal muscle soreness.
Athleta Balance 7/8 tights. While it really hasn’t been anywhere cool enough yet to wear these out on runs, I have worn them to the gym countless times and the love is real. They’re so soft and have pockets right where I need them. The perforated design is super cute too.
Balega Enduro Socks. While I’ve been a fan of Balega Hidden Comfort and Blister-Resist socks for years, the Enduro was new to me and I’ve quickly fallen in love. They’re cushioned but not too thick and have a V-tech arch support system that helps keep them from sliding around. The low-cut style comes up just high enough to keep gravel and dirt from working its way down to my feet.
FRE Skin Care. This skin care line was specially formulated for sweaty skin. It’s a 3-step system consisting of a cleanser, replenishing serum and light moisturizer with SPF designed to work together to offset the damaging effects of pollution and sweat-induced skin breakouts to keep your skin looking fresher and younger. What races do you have coming up this fall? What are some of your fall favorites?

These all look like great products! Usually Labor Day and the start of September represents the start of fall to me, but this year its just been so hot that it still feels like summer.

You are doing the Philly marathon AND 8k??? Wow! That’s fantastic! Love the Athleta tights. They ARE super-cute!
Laura says
I love Balega socks and should try the magnesium flakes. I’m so ready for fall temps! We’ve got one more hot week to get through.
Wendy says
Those tights! I have a $20 birthday coupon from Athleta plus 20% off. Guess what I’ll be buying?
MCM Mama Runs says
Those magnesium flakes intrigue me. And a cool bath sounds nice right about now – I’ve never been one for the ice bath…
Melissa says
I have never tried those socks, but I’ve heard so much about them. And those tights!! It is weird thinking about fall running though- it has been so steamy here!
Cari says
7/8 tights make me laugh. Why? I’m 5’2. They’re the closest I can come to full length tights that don’t extend another foot.
Good luck with your training – magnesium flakes look like a great tool
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Love those tights! I have an Athleta gift card burning a hole in my wallet – now I know what to use it on 😉
And wow to taking on both the Philly 8K and marathon!

I’m looking forward to wearing my Oiselle vest. I packed it for Alaska and wore it quite a few times, including my 4-miiler. Vests are a must up here with layering.

I need to try that Bug Ban…I have had some nasty reactions to the regular DEET spray I have used for years. Back to the drawing board… And those Athleta parts are so cute with the cutouts!

I can’t wait to hear about Sea Wheeze I loved Vancouver. Hope to see you in Philly too ifI can get up to half marathon shape by then.

Fall is my absolutely favorite time of year! Let’s see what this year brings. If summer is any indication, it will be no bueno for sure. I just finally used my Athleta gift card that my niece gave me for Christmas TWO YEARS ago! I did nab a pair of Balegas on clearance! Those tights look great–I will have to check them out. You have some great fall races on your calendar!
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
Love Balega Enduros! I’ve worn them for a long time.
I didn’t know NOW did bug spray. I use several natural products, but I must admit after our race in Lake George when the mosquitoes attacked en force I doused myself with DEET. 🙁
Kimberly Hatting says
That Bug Ban sounds heavenly! I have not had any issues with bugs…yet…but I cannot stand the smell of standard bug repellent (therefore I don’t use it faithfully). I’m gonna look for that stuff!
Zenaida Arroyo says
I recently bought the ultralight socks and like those a lot. I ended up buying a few more pairs.
Kim G says
I keep meaning to try the magnesium flakes – thanks for the reminder!

I didn’t know you were running Philly…we HAVE to meet!! I loved the 8K last year, maybe I’ll sign up for it again…
You always have the coolest gear. I think I have one pair of Balega socks but I do need to get some new pairs!
Darlene says
Balega are my faves so I need to try those.
Bugs love me. Thanks for the product share on that as well.
You have quite a few race-cations. All sound like fun ones.
I need to find another blogger meet-up. Miss you guys.

Yay for all of your races coming up!! I love fall so much, I think it’s the perfect running season. I’m planning on doing a half marathon coming up in February, but will definitely add in a 5 or 10K before that!
