Since all hell broke loose last Sunday, we’ve been trying to regroup and let the dust settle, in hopes of finding “normal” again. My week consisted of lots of mom taxi duty since the teenager no longer has a car, dealing with the fallout from the accident, oh and add in work, single parenting and some mama drama from the 13 year old. Philly Marathon training has definitely been on the back burner. Actually not really on the burner at all. Here’s how my workouts went:
Monday: Rest
Tuesday: Strength +20 min HIIT workout
Wednesday: Run 6 miles (sucked)
Thursday: Half-assed Yoga
Friday: Run 2 miles + Bike 15 miles
Saturday: Planned to run 15 miles, actually ran 8 (suuucked)
Sunday: 20 minutes stepmill + CrossFit. Very strong. Probably because I felt guilty about my cut back my long run.
I’ve been on edge, stressed out, sleeping poorly and on the brink of getting sick all week. No surprise there. How do you train for a marathon when you’re physically and mentally not up to it? Carefully.
All of my runs this week were sucky hard, especially as the heat and humidity returned. I gave myself grace and cut back the mileage on two of them and backed off the pace on all of them. Time on my feet counts for something right? Yes it does.
I’ve been hitting this magic trifecta of immune boosters: Glutathione, Epicor Plus Immunity and Quercetin from Now Foods. I swear by them after tough workouts and again before bed, along with a good chug-a-lug of fish oil. I’ve been religious about taking them daily this week, even on non-running days. I swear they are the reason I’m still alive and kicking.
The Week Ahead
School madness continues with two Curriculum nights at two schools, a band booster meeting, a business trip and more 90 degree heat. Marathon training will have to fit in there somewhere.
It’s just about that time again!
The Runfession Friday Linkup opens this Friday! As per usual, I’ve got plenty to come clean with and I hope you do too. Join me!
What are your go-tos to keep your immune system strong at stressful times?

From convo with a friend recently when I was whining about how difficult running is anymore: You’ve accomplished all you have ever dreamed of, yes? Yes, I have. Okay, now just enjoy it. It doesn’t matter if you cross the finish line in 4 hours or 6 hours – you still cross it and you get to have tons of laughs with dear friends. Of course with a zillion past times and paces sitting out there, it’s hard to let it all go….but truly, I’m grateful. I juggle two full time jobs and have a broken foot….I’m doing what I can with what I have and my 11 minute miles are just going to have to cut it. So I salute you, Lou – you’re doing a helluva lot and still getting it done. Can’t wait to see you soon! xo

Sorry to hear about your teenager’s accident. Sounds like you’re super busy. Way to get in what you can! It does count and is better than nothing.

Sorry things have been so crazy lately! I find that it helps to just keep up with the basics of sleeping enough, eating well, and drinking enough water (because those things usually tend to slip when life it stressful!) Hopefully things will settle down soon and you can get back on track with your training.

I hope this week is less stressful! You’ve got plenty of fitness to cross that marathon finish line so I wouldn’t stress over that. Just do what you can in this humidity and enjoy the race. I’ve got a few unsettled things going on and thus haven’t sleep well for a few days. In fact, I’ve been up most of the night reading the links on the Weekly Wrap. 😉 Thanks for linking!

No doubt you had an excellent CrossFit session! Don’t sweat the marathon training. Your experience will carry you over that finish line. Who am I? This is advice you gave me for Big Sur. Hang in there, my friend. <3

Sorry to hear that you have had such a rough week! We all have them and this humidity does not help. Hope things settle down for you this week

Hope most of the stress has died down.
You are so strong. You will get through this and have a successful race.

I haven’t been sleeping well for months, and have turned to Zzzquill. I’m not sure if that increases the quality. Before Alaska I was pounding Airborne like it was my second job. There was no way I wanted to get sick before that trip.

Wow, you definitely have a full plate! I agree with your comment about marathon training carefully. Life will throw many things at you but you can handle it! Grace, grace, and more grace will get you through this. Stay strong!

Sorry to hear it’s been such a stressful time. Whatever time on your feet you can fit in is a win – you are definitely strong enough to pull the marathon thing off and you’ve still got time before November. I’m curious about the Now Food products you’re using. I was just on their website the other day but was overwhelmed by where to begin! Wishing you a quiet week ahead!

That “keep going” graphic is great. And so true. Summer is truly about “better less than nothing” in terms of plans not working out as lined up. Summer training is.. not fun

I’m so sorry to hear that you had a stressful week 🙁 You still did awesome with getting in your runs and workouts.
I hope that this week goes better for you.

Oh yeah time on your feet does count and hopefully helped to ease some of the stress you were dealing with. Hope you are having a better week….
