Are you a perennial 4th of July racer? Or do you prefer a low key run? Maybe something else entirely? Our Tuesdays on the Run Linkup wants to know what your plans are for Independence Day.
There was a time I had a favorite local 5k I liked to run. On alternate years when we visited the in-laws in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, 4 on the Fourth in Carborro was the place to be.
I ran that race 4 times.
Last year’s trip to Dubai was without question the most exotic…and the hottest…place I ever ran on July fourth.
This year we’re traveling again, but in the good old US of A. Our summer vacay will be mostly for the purpose of college visits for the teenager. We’ll be in Tennessee, Hotlanta (which is actually cooler than Chicago right now) and Florida. If I’d planned this better I’d have found a way to run the Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta on the 4th. At this point it looks like we’ll be celebrating the Fourth of July in Florida…Gainesville I think…but don’t quote me on that, because I’m not entirely sure.
How will you spend the 4th of July?

Not racing on the 4th, although I considered doing a 10K on Governors Island. Plan is to run or cross train before going to the Yankees game. After that I’ll probably watch the fireworks from the Park near my apartment. It’s not a full head on view, but large enough (2017 photos https://www.flickr.com/photos/travellingcari/albums/72157685820899536) and super close, which is great because I need to be at work in the morning. Safe travels. I enjoyed Gainesville when nI visited a friend there. The stadium steps are great for running if it’s accessible

I have heard such great things about the Peachtree! FOr thepast several years (4? 5?), we’ve done a nearby 5K that benefits the local cross country team, and is held in conjunction with a parade and a day-long celebration off the 4th of July. I had to DNS it last year, so I’m hoping for a grand redemption return 😉 Happy Independence Day!

I think I’ve only raced on the 4th of July once, and they don’t have that race any more. I’ll be staying home and probably just running on my own. Hope you have a good trip!

Wow! Dubai IS an exotic place to spend your 4th. We usually go to Cape Cod to visit my sister. She has a huge party and fireworks display. this year, hubby used up all of his vacation days, so we will be at home trying to comfort our dog, who doesn’t like the boomers!

Steph and I are planning on a 4th of July race–hopefully, it won’t be too hot! Enjoy your trip and stay cool.

I’ll be racing a favorite 10 miler on the 4th. Happy travels!

Since the 4th is a Wednesday, we are being pretty low key this year. Hanging out with some friends and trying to stay cool! I don’t think I’ll get in a run that day, but I’m finally getting back into running after giving birth 5 weeks ago !

I will be spending the 4th “racing” (not sure what that will actually look like in this heat) with friends. The same race I do every year. It has great spectator support.
Peachtree would’ve been “cool”! Mr. Judy would hate those crowds, though. I don’t think I’d like the heat, either, but I’m getting that up here anyway!

I am running the Elmhurst 4 on the 4th race. I’ve run this race since 2013. It is fun, cheap, and close to the city. Have a GREAT 4th of July!

I wrote about being in St. Petersburg on the 4th in 2005. Not quite as exotic as Dubai, and certainly not as hot.
Last year, NBC showed the elite race for Peachtree. I wonder if they’re doing the same thing tomorrow.

You are a brave woman. I do not race in July– too hot for me. I am a chicken 🙂 This 4th of July, we will be home probably doing some BBQ and relaxing with the family.

I will be doing a November Project beach workout, but in the past I’ve done 5ks and the Firecracker 4.

I will start the day with a run and spend the day with friends and family – car show, carnival, food, drinks, fireworks 🙂 Happy 4th!

I hope you have a wonderful 4th! I wish I could travel, but the holiday being in the middle of the week throws things off! We’re having a couple of people over to the house and grilling on Wednesday. I’m currently looking for some dessert recipes – preferably frozen!
Deborah @ Confessions of mother runner says
We are doing a group run into Georgetown and breakfast coffee afterwards. It’s been a tradition the last few years. Don’t remember it being this hot last year! Have a fun trip!
