Did you have a fun Fourth of July? Whether or not it’s technically accurate, to me the fourth symbolizes the middle of summer or DEEP SUMMER if you will. Here the kids have been on summer break for a little over a month already and they have…know what? Let’s not even go there. I don’t wanna think about how quickly summer and all this glorious daylight slips away.
You may know we’re just back from doing some college tours since the teenager is officially a “rising” high school senior. Sigh. Wasn’t she just sitting in that top seat of the shopping cart, babbling away? Yes, yes she was. In the blink of an eye, we’re shopping for colleges. Wow college tours are exhausting. The heat/humidity in the South is no joke, although let the record show, Atlanta was actually cooler than it was in Chicago when we left.
We ended up celebrating Independence Day in Miami.
We lucked out with a condo with a panoramic view of Biscayne Bay so we enjoyed at least 10, maybe more, fireworks shows at once.
On the workout front, I did a little terrestrial running, one gym workout, but mostly lots of swimming and pool running…
…not to mention some “fake” running in the Wynwood Art District. If you saw my Instagram, you know what I’m talking about. I’m blaming the heat. There was no long run to speak of, but I did one the day before we left so it’s all good. Overall it was a really fun trip.
To add insult to injury, I watched Ladybird on the plane ride home. If you haven’t seen it, its about a teenager heading off to college. That seems to be the theme of my life right now. Even though millions of parents around the globe have sent their kids off to college through the ages, I’m already dreading that day when we’ll actually do it, because time flies and that day is coming fast. For now though, I’m going to savor this one final year.
How was your July 4th? Have you been on college visits? If so how many did you consider?Have you sent a child away to college and lived to tell about it?

LOL, I did suffer from empty nest syndrome but recovered more quickly than I expected. 😉 Miami is HOT this time of year, I didn’t run outside at all when I was there in July/August. Schools here don’t start back until Labor Day, so there’s a good bit of summer left.

What did you think of Lady Bird? I actually really enjoyed it, but I feel like a lot of friends hated it…Fun location in Miami for the 4th! You still fit in quite a bit of activity 🙂

Oh my gosh, I’m so not ready to think about college visits. I’m barely wrapping my head around the fact that my oldest just finished drivers ed classes! Glad you had a good trip!

Well, you can live vicariously through me as I prepare to send my baby off to school. I’m grateful–so grateful he chose a school close to home. I’m excited and nervous for him. Gosh, it’s hard!!!
I loved Ladybird. Loved. Even though I don’t have girls, it was so relatable!!!

I have no problem with fake running LOL! I am already having such a hard time with the fact that my son is going to college in just a few weeks! It’s really hard to let go

I only went an hour away to college. I don’t know if my parent’s loved that or not since I came home often..haha.

It’s crazy how fast the summer is going by! Im going back to Florida this weekend and already dreading how hot it will be there. Maybe I’ll need to try your fake running!

So exciting that you were able to go on college tours last week. Did she have a favorite? Even though I graduated high school a long time ago, I still remember the excitement of going on college tours. It’s just such an exciting time!

I don’t know why, but I was A-okay when each of my boys left for college. Maybe it was because they were so close–they all went to Indiana. It does go by fast, for sure. Our youngest will be a senior this year. People keep telling us we’ll be empty-nesters soon, but with my 89-year old mom living with us, not so much…

My parents were a wreck, and I was ready. I actually ended up going a mile down the road, but I wasn’t at home anymore. They saw me a lot by the end of each semester because the cafeteria was cooking the same things all the time. I wanted home cooked meals, and variety.

Great fireworks photos!

What a fun ‘family’ college hunting trip! Looks like you guys had great weather despite the humidity. I sent one off to college a couple of years ago and have one going off next year as well. It is hard at first but you will adjust and come to enjoy a quieter house. 🙂

Well, I have sent two off to college, and #3 will be on her merry way next month . ((gulp)). It’s such a bittersweet time…..they’re all ready to spread their wings and fly, and you want them to succeed and explore the world, but you still want to be the mother bird and keep them close at home, under your wings. Your trip down south definitely looked fabulous, though.

Both my girls decided to stay close to home (I may or may not had something to do with that) Yay! I moved clear across the states when I was their age and would just die if they did that. Thank goodness social media and face time can keep friends and family “close” by.

I swear my mom was pushing me out the door (but I’m the baby). It’s got to be really tough!
I only visited a few colleges way back when. I knew where I wanted to go — and that’s where I did go, and that’s where I met Mr. Judy & the rest is history. 🙂

I watched Ladybird on my trip to Denver (with Lady Bird in the seat next to me!). I think Laurie Metcalf was excellent in her role! You chose an awesome location to celebrate the 4th. I hope the college visits went well. I can’t relate to daughters, but I can relate to kids leaving home for college. My last will be moving in mere weeks. Sniff, sniff. Thanks for linking!
