With RnRChi in the rear view mirror, Zooma Great Lakes (join me and save with MARCIA2018) just 7 weeks away and Seawheeze 8 weeks away, I think it’s time I started taking my running a tad more seriously. While most of the country has been sweltering in the heat/humidity that has been so popular this summer, after we dried out from the rain over RnRChi weekend, Mom Nature treated us to some most welcome Canadian air. We all know running is a different animal under cooler conditions, right? Here’s how my week of workouts went:
Monday: Rest
Tuesday: Run 6 miles
Wednesday: Strength, Core
Thursday: Trail run 5 miles
Friday: Yoga
Saturday: Run 8 miles
Sunday: Gym + Swim
I’d been getting frustrated with my Garmin lately. For a couple of weeks now it keeps telling me my workouts are “unproductive”. It says I’m losing fitness and my VO2max is declining. Who wants to hear that besides no one ever? How can I be working out AND losing fitness?? Well this week it finally shaped up and told me my workouts were “productive” and gave me back 2 VO2max points. I really think the heat/humidity and what it does to my heart rate are to blame for my Garmin’s unkind words.
Even though my weeks with access to the track are dwindling down to just two, I couldn’t resist the call of the trails. In the cooler, lighter air, it was pretty perfect. My Garmin thought so too.

Activated charcoal-mint ice cream from Dasher & Crank in Miami sure hit the spot.
Charcoal everything. I’ve long been a fan of activated charcoal tablets. Once in awhile if I eat something that doesn’t agree with me, or overeat, a couple of those suckers filters out the bad stuff and leaves me feeling great in a flash. I’ve enjoyed charcoal face masks for awhile now and recently I found charcoal soap, shampoo and toothpaste. Yes, yes and yes! When we were in Miami I had charcoal ice cream which was delicious BTW. There are a couple of places around here that serve charcoal coffee. I am all over it.
A couple of teenagers. After partying like it’s 1999 all month, finally, officially we have a couple of teenagers in the house as Thing 2 turned 13 on Saturday. It was bittersweet to leave those tween years behind but I am buckled in for the ride!
How was your week? Have you tried activated charcoal? Has your weather improved?

That Garmin obviously doesn’t know you the way that we do! 🙂 Can you send some of that Canadian air my way?? thanks!
Jessie says
Ah, charcoal infused ice cream…sounds interesting! I guess I need to look more into this whole charcoal thing!

Charcoal? Is that a product or stuff to bake into food? I’ve had a wonky stomach and don’t want to rely on Pepto so much.

I’m very jealous of your Canadian air. We still have air from the Rain Forest, apparently. I don’t know much (anything!) about activated charcoal. I’m not so sure about charcoal ice cream and coffee. The only thing my Garmin currently tells me is “low battery”. A new fancy one might hurt my delicate feelings. HA HA. Thanks for linking!

Charcoal infused food? I had no idea charcoal was edible (again…that rock I’m under is hiding all this valuable info LOL). Our weather was rather pleasant this past week as well…thought he early mornings were a tad bit chilly on my non-running days. I’m not quite ready for fall temps just yet…

In the ER we used charcoal for kids/teens who ingested things they shouldn’t. So it makes sense that it makes you feel better. I’m not sure I want it in my ice cream, tho! :p
Happy 13th to JIllian!

I’ve heard of charcoal masks, but I didn’t know it was edible. Sounds interesting! Your girls are beautiful! Hoping for many happy teen years 😉

Um I’ve never heard of charcoal anything! (that’s edible) Sounds interesting. It hasn’t cooled off here in awhile and I could use a break from the heat. I get frustrated with my Garmin at times and then I just try to ignore it.
Lacey@fairytalesandfitness says
The only thing I have ever tried was charcoal face mask. I heard that the toothpaste works really well, but it is kind of messy.

I weighed myself this morning and dropped a whopping 0.1 pounds from last Monday. Really??? I’ve never tried charcoal anything, but charcoal infused ice cream? Sounds…interesting.

Please send some of that cool air over to the Northeast. I don’t know how much longer I can deal with the stifling humidity!
I’d love to join you and Wendy for the Zooma race but its the same weekend as RnR Philly 🙁
I’ve never tried activated charcoal but now I’m super curious!

When I was in Russia, they used charcoal often. I brought back a ton of tablets. If only, I could locate them. Do they expire?
I’d love to try that ice cream or any ice cream?
I just looked on my blog and it says my half is in 55 days. Yikes. I’d better get running.

“Canadian air”. That made me laugh and I’m glad you’re enjoying it.
I was cleared to try running today. Yay! There are less than 10 weeks until Chicago with a few key races in between – am getting antsy about being able to train properly again.
Charcoal? I have never heard of it. Very interesting….

I have honestly never heard of charcoal ice cream …I am intrigued. What exactly are the benefits of charcoal and can one get too much of it?
I sure wish we had some cooler weather down here! However, I don’t know why I’m complaining because I’m such a cold weather wimp that I know I’ll be complaining come November. Hard to please, I know. 🙂
Your girls are just adorable! But I don’t envy you with two teenage daughters … my boys were moody enough!

I’ve seen a lot re: misbehaving Garmins on some blogs as well as the Run the Year facebook. I think their software might be having a moment.
Seawheeze … sounds unpleasant in the name.
Liz Dexter says
That’s mean of your Garmin! That’s why I don’t let them tell me that kind of stuff!

If anything, our weather is worse. Today is horrible. It’s not even that hot (yet, but that’s coming), but the humidity is just through the roof — as we were walking the dogs this morning, I commented that it’s TX-like humidity. 🙁
