June is quickly slipping away and I’m headed South for vacay/college visits with the teenager, but before I do, a little pit stop at the Runfessional is in order. Let’s get the Runfession Friday Linkup started, shall we?
I runfess I got more than a little turned off recently when I was “specially selected” to complete a research survey for Nuun Hydration and as soon as I answered the first question “How old are you?” I got a response that basically said “Oh never mind, we’ve reached our quota of responses from old geezers like you. Why are you drinking Nuun anyway? Perhaps Geritol or Milk of Magnesia would be a better choice.”
I runfess maybe Nuun is right since I’ve been feeling like the “get off my lawn” lady in the gym locker room as usual. I may have given the stink eye to a woman who decided she needed to rest her bare foot up on the sink in order to slather her legs with lotion.
I runfess when I go to the gym I’ve been pretty good about not forgetting to bring crucial pieces of gear and apparel. Until the other day, after a sweaty workout followed by 20 minutes baking in the sauna, I showered, washed my hair….and then realized that somehow my most favorite hair brush ever was no longer in my gym bag. Can you say wet rat’s nest?
I runfess since we went mountain biking in La Crosse, I really wish I had a mountain bike of my own. Actually I did have one…and I rode it often…but when I got my road bike, the Caveman decided for me that I didn’t “need” two bikes and, one day when I was not home, my beloved mountain bike went to the Salvation Army. Can you tell I haven’t fully forgiven him for that?
Your turn! What have you to runfess? Are you good about forgiveness? Or do you hold grudges?
I’m linking up with Meranda, Lacey and Rachel for the Friday Five.
HoHo Runs says
My school bus yellow K-Mart special mountain bike (with twist shifters!) met with the same demise. And I liked that old bike! Good luck with the college visits! Thanks for the linkup.
Kimberly Hatting says
Grudges? One of my better assets is my memory LOL I do forgive, but forgetting is a tough one when someone does me wrong…
Have fun visiting all the colleges 😉
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
What did you do without a hairbrush!?! That’s a tough item to forget. Hope you have a good time away!
MCM Mama Runs says
Have fun with the college visits. We’ll be starting those soon! And I’m glad I didn’t bother with the nuun survey…
Coco says
I went through a streak of forgetting things in my gym bag. Hopefully I’m done with that now. Clearly your husband isn’t a cyclist! I was surprised to learn this week that my husband *only* has one regular road bike. He has 3 altogether.
Wendy says
Funny how we both wrote about holding grudges? It must be a theme for us this month. It’s been interesting!
And tell me, what is it with ageism? Altho judging by how my runs have been lately, I won’t be needing Nuun or Tailwind or any fuel for that matter…pass the Geritol…
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Hmm I think I have a few choice words for those folks at Nuun!
Good luck with the college visits!!
Laurie says
I ONLY have a mountain bike. I love riding on rail trails, but riding on the road is too scary for me. Too many distracted and ticked off drivers! I saw a near collision between a bike and a car while I was running this week, and both the driver and the biker had some BAD words for each other! 🙂 Have a great time on your trip.
Deborah @ Confessions of mother runner says
I was going to submit an app for something the other day and realized I missed the age by 3 years yup annoying and I have not accepted that yet. Have fun on the college tours!
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
OMG, Mr. Judy would be in deep doo doo if he ever did something like that to me (and I can unfortunately hold a grudge like nobody’s business). He has a habit of wanting me to get rid of stuff while he hoards all the things.
There are times that I can barely remember my own name, much less all the stuff I need to bring with me!
Kim G says
OMG the “Get off my lawn” photo made me LOL – too funny! I often feel like that at the gym too…especially when I see the young girls dressed up in a matching outfit with a full face of makeup pretending to “workout” on the machines, lol
I’ve forgotten things in my gym bag too. A few years ago I was getting dressed and realized I didn’t have a clean pair of underwear to change into. Needless to say I went commando that day lol
Anna @ Piper's Run says
I didn’t even get an email about a Nuun questionnaire – what does that say about me? (Kidding).
I runfess that I’m loving early morning runs…even on week days!

Going south for vacation/college visits is eerily reminiscent of mine. I grew up in the NYC suburbs and all the schools I looked at save for one were in DC/Va/NC so we had a road trip that was college visits/Civil War battlefields/Outer Banks. Wonderful. And of course the school I ultimately went to was in Rochester, NY
I feel you on gym bag supplies. Finally put complete outfit in my desk drawer including drug store sports bra. I might put my nearly out of miles sneakers there too.
Megan @ Meg Go Run says
I definitely try to forgive because if I hold a judge, the only person that makes unhappy is ME. I can be stubborn, so sometimes I do have to just make the decision to let it go.
Lesley says
I went south too for the big college trip, and went to the college 2 miles from home! I hope you have fun. I looked at Gettysburg, Skidmore, Vassar, and Ithaca before staying in Massachusetts.
patrick@looneyforfood.com says
I only have a mountain bike but unfortunately barley have the time to go riding. That lawn lady picture made me laugh out loud!
The Accidental Marathoner says
I’m constantly getting kicked out of surveys for one reason or another. I’m sure my age has a lot to do with it! Enjoy your vacation/college visits. All the campuses should look beautiful this time of year. I remember visiting some colleges in the early spring when some places were still dreary looking. It definitely made an impact on my kids’ decisions! Again with husbands getting rid of your stuff! I told you previously–I try not to work on garbage pickup day just so I can check the trash to see what he’s thrown out of mine! Ugh!!!
Darlene says
I never got the Nuun questionnaire. Maybe they know that I am an ambassador that doesn’t use Nuun.
Enjoy your college visits. Hope they are in places where they are nice running routes.
Janelle @ Run With No Regretsp says
The other day I was at the gym and I forgot to bring socks, so I had to wear my work socks…at least they’re colorful! I definitely can hold grudges when necessary, lol!
Sharon says
I have a road bike that I never ride…and in fact it’s supposed to be good on both roads and trails. I’ve never tried it on trails and somehow I don’t think it would make a good mountain bike. We’ve got a pretty active cycling and mountain biking community here, and someday I’ll try it. For now I’m sticking to running!
vicki says
Oh, that bike thing happened to me too, but my hubs put it out on the curb and i got home just in time to see someone riding away in the sunset with it, I wasn’t happy to say the least.
Fairytalesandfitness says
Omg I would have been so mad if my husband gave my bike away. Did you perhaps make reference that you weren’t going to ride it anymore since you got your new bike?
I am impressed though that your husband took ANYTHING to salvation army. At our house we have a pile that needs to go. Said pile will stay there for many months. Piles will then make it to the trunk of my car and then eventually make it to Good Will..haha.
Denise @ runheartfit says
Wow, your husband gave your bike away? I say he owes you a new and improved mtn bike. I’ve never been mountain biking…I’m a bit of a chicken and not very coordinated…I’m sure I would fall and end up full of abrasions.
As for forgetting things, I forgot my socks once when meeting up for a bike ride. Now I leave my worn socks in my shoes just in case…dirty socks are better than no socks. 😉
