Congrats to all of the graduates! My feeds are flooded with pics and I’m loving it…and a bit choked up for you too. Before I get to the “trouble”, here’s how the week in workouts went:
Monday: Rest
Tuesday: Run 5 miles
Wednesday: Strength + Bike
Thursday: Run 3 Miles + Core
Friday: Run 4 Miles + Swim
Saturday: CrossFit + Swim
Sunday: Hot Trail Run 5 miles + Swim
We had some temperature extremes here in the Chicago area, what else is new? My first run of the week was in long sleeves and capris.
Not a shady part of the trail, obvi, because its too buggy there to stop for pics.
My weekend run had to be taken to shady trails because it was already a sultry 80+ degrees with plenty of humidity to go around when I got out at 8am. Check out my tips for running safety in the heat.
Did you notice that 4-letter “S” word also made an appearance this week? Yep, the outdoor pool is open and I’ve taken the plunge on a few occasions already.
Are you in trouble?
On my Tuesday run, I was looping around a neighborhood I’ve run in for 10+ years now, and about halfway though, I’m passing by a house and I hear an old woman calling after me from her driveway. “Lady! Lady! Are you in trouble? Or just running?” Um….geez do I look that bad? Am I making a horrible face? If I was in trouble, what would she do? Call 911? Lol!
Other weekend shenanigans
Shopped for flooring. This bamboo wide plank is a finalist.
Spent Saturday with the in-laws.
Made a batch of S’mores Protein Bites. Get the recipe here.
How was your week? Did you race? What’s the weirdest/funniest thing someone said to you while you were out running?

Oh that is too funny about the lady asking you if you were in trouble!
Our pool has been open for several weeks here but I haven’t been in it yet. We got some rain the other day and now it’s cloudy. Of course the day’s its 90 degrees the pool would not be clear. I hope it clears up soon.
I like your shorts in the above pic. I’m trying to look for some new 5 inch shorts. All the colorful ones I’ve found are like hot pants! -M

It was so hot this morning that people pretty much ignored me while I was running. I think everyone was just suffering!

I thought our outdoor lap pools opened this weekend, but not yet…NEXT weekend. Argh! It’s nearly 100 degrees here, I would have loved to run outside.
Those protein bites look amazing, I’m going to make them tomorrow!

We had an especially warm week in Iowa…and it’s forecasted to continue on through next weekend. I love the heat, but the humidity has been a bit extreme this early.
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
Glad you were able to get back to the pool. That is too funny that the lady asked if you were in trouble! It’s definitely warmed up quickly in most places I think.
Jennifer @ Fit Nana says
LOL at your neighbor lady! I’ve never had anyone ask me that but I have had a few older gentlemen tell me that I needed to slow down because there was a cop and a speed trap up around the corner. Random that more than one man has told me that and they’ve all been in their 70s or so. Haha!
Um, hello, those s’mores protein bites…. YES, PLEASE!
Coco says
LOL on your neighbor. At least she cares? Our weather can’t make up its mine. We’ve had gorgeous, stiffling and rainy so far this weekend.

I love the flooring choice! My very last kid graduated this week (sniff, sniff). Maybe your neighbor moved from a crime ridden ‘hood? LOL. In my small neighborhood, a police officer stopped, rolled down his window and asked me if everything was OK. He said he was out patrolling our neighborhood to keep it safe — but it felt weird and left me unsettled. Just wave and keep moving, sir. Thanks for linking!

Oh my gosh, that is SO funny about the lady your ran past! By the time I got out yesterday it was 85 degrees, and then by the time I was heading home it was over 90. A younger woman was running toward me and looked absolutely horrible. I seriously thought, do I look that bad??? I’m sure I did, or even worse! It’s brutal out there. Heading out for an early bike ride in a few. I like the flooring!
Lesley says
Love that flooring! What are you remodeling? My community’s pool opened this weekend, and will close Labor Day weekend.
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Oh my gosh too funny about your neighbor! At this point I’ve given up trying to figure out what’s going on with the weather – it’s been steamy and hot Friday and Saturday, but then dropped 30 degrees on Sunday. I love your flooring choice – where are you remodeling?

Of course, I raced LOL.
a 5k in Brooklyn after work.
I ran yesterday with a friend of a friend. Turns out she live sin my neighborhood and runs past my house every day…but at 5 am …I am sleeping. And no, I will not be joining her.
Crazy weather here too. Now I’m back at work and it’s hot and sunny.
I have another 5k on Sat and it will probably rain.

That’s too sweet of her. When I do small town runs I love the ineraction from spectators. You don’t really get that for non races here. Mm, those protein bites look delicious
