Week 2 of MAYhem is complete. I may be wrong, but I think the chaos may wind down a touch from here….hopefully. That said, here’s how the workouts (still on that back burner) went. This post contains affiliate links.
Monday: Rest
Tuesday: Run 4.5 miles
Wednesday: Strength
Thursday: Run 5 miles
Friday: Yoga/core
Saturday: Run 7 Miles
Sunday: CrossFit
As much as I’d rather be savoring these special times with my family, the week seemed to be more about keeping my head above water and checking things off the to-do list.
I didn’t get it all done, but there was enough progress to be satisfied. Track Sectionals and the band concert were at conflicting times, but we made it work for the most part. The track meet went late into the night because the teenager made the final, which we couldn’t stick around for, but she ended up with an injury-free top 5 finish. So proud of her!
As a follow-up to last week, it turns out Thing 2’s showing at track Conference wasn’t as disappointing as she led us to believe. While her performance fell short of what she’d hoped for, she still ended up 5th overall and her team won the Championship. We’ll be attending an awards ceremony this week to celebrate that!
We had some really beautiful spring/summer weather…….until the bottom dropped out Friday and we were back to 40 degrees, wind and rain. C’est la vie. 80’s are back in the forecast for this week so I’ll hold out hope for that.
Does Rude Come in 3’s ?
When something happens repeatedly, do you feel like the universe is trying to tell you something? Not sure what it was about this week in particular but wow the rude drivers were rampant. I need to make a left turn to get out of my neighborhood in the morning rush. From about 7am to 8am the traffic is basically at a standstill so I’m at the mercy of someone letting me in. 90% of the time, this is not an issue and of course I wave and thank them but the other day? Nobody wanted to let me in so I sort of edged out when there was an opening only to have the guy speed up, pretending not to see me (riiiiight). I got in behind him and apparently the woman I got in front of wasn’t happy about that either. Really? You’re crawling 2 mph and you can’t let in ONE car? I sort of get being ticked off when you’re merging from 2 lanes into one and car after car comes speeding up to the front to merge but that wasn’t the case. You can’t let in one car??
That’s just one example of rudeness, I won’t bore you with others but let’s just say it got to the point that I began to wonder if I’m giving off some sort of energy that’s bringing out the rude in people. Alright, moving on.
Hot List
Zuki Myofascial Release Roller. This roller features 2376 penetrating points that help break up fascia, attack lactic acid buildup, and increase circulation for expedited recovery. It’s like a stick on steroids. It’s great for the soles of feet too. I loooved my appointment with a Myofascial release specialist and would be going to him regularly if he hadn’t relocated out of the state. I’m also a fan of my Accupressure Mat, but having a stick with penetrating points really allows me to get deep into the hard-to-reach areas like hamstrings, shins, IT bands and tibial tendons, to name a few. This roller comes in 25″ and 19″ (great for travel) models. It makes a great gift for those runners/athletes in your life…and yourself…just saying. Read more about it here. Buy it here.
Weber Vegetable Basket. O-M-G where has this little item been all my life? This simple basket makes throwing veggies on the grill SO much easier and they taste divine. We use ours constantly.
Last but not least, just in time for Mother’s Day, I am honored beyond measure to be a featured athlete on Now Foods’ YouTube Channel. I’ve been a Now Wellness Influencer for four years now and a loyal fan of their products for much longer. Take a peek for some insights into my inspiration and motivation for running and training, favorite Now products and more:
The week ahead:
Join us for the Tuesdays on the Run Linkup where the topic is RUNNER FOOD! Tell us about your go-to night before race meal.
Don’t miss a special screening of The Snowman Trek in theaters nationwide this Thursday, May 17th ONLY. A team of marathon runners journey to Bhutan to set a speed record on the
world’s hardest trek. They confront the harsh conditions of the Himalayas and the
skeptical local culture as their adventure verges on the edge of total failure.

I’m headed out on a weekend blog adventure! Friday the family and I are headed up to LaCrosse, Wisconsin for the Driftless Sports Convergence and I couldn’t be more excited. We’ll be hiking, biking, paddling, running and enjoying all the goodness this beautiful city has to offer and sharing it on my social media channels. Stay tuned!
Happy Mother’s Day! How are you celebrating? How was your week? Have you tried Now products? What’s your fave veggie to grill?
The Accidental Marathoner says
Congratulations to both of your girls! What a crazy schedule I miss (no I don’t) those days! Congrats on the YouTube feature!

Sometimes I wonder is being rude is contagious. It actually amazes me these days what people think they an say to others. It’s very disappointing.
That’s awesome about your daughter’s track meet! She places really high and she should be so proud of that!

I have a traditional Stick that I use along with my foam roller and tennis ball but a Zuki sounds really good! Sorry you had to deal with rude people so much. I definitely do not miss rude drivers, ugh!
Jennifer @ Fit Nana says
Oh, I LOVE that Weber vegetable grill basket! We use ours regularly too! I pretty much throw everything in there but especially love it for zucchini, peppers, and asparagus. YUM!
Congratulations to your both your daughters! That’s awesome!
Rude people are the worst. I live on a busy residential commercial street across from a 7-11 and a gas station. Sometimes, I get stuck trying to turn into my driveway. And then, someone wants to turn behind me into the 7-11 but he didn’t think and let me go first so it’s a stand-off as all the cars build up. All I can think is, “nope. I’m trying to go home. You can go around the block for your stupid Slurpee.” haha!
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
I cant stand rude drivers. We have a tough situation getting out of of neighborhood and it feels like no one wants to cooperate with each other.

I really enjoyed watching your video Marcia! Since I never met you in person, it was sort of like meeting a friend! -M

I’ve never heard of Zuki. I have A foam roller, a lacrosse ball, a Stick, and an Addaday. I’m definitely stocked up.
Kimberly Hatting says
Congrats on the Now Foods You Tube feature! That’s great! It’s exciting to hear of your daughters’ success, especially on the track! And the rudeness…I can relate. Maybe I’m just everyone’s designated punching bag (because I seldom return a snarky comment when I’ve received one), but it does wear on you after awhile. Maybe I need to be more of a _itch, but it’s just not my style to call out people on their behavior. UGH! Yes, definitely moving on LOL

So sorry you had to deal with rude people this week. It DOES seem to happen in 3s. Why is that? Your upcoming weekend sounds awesome! Enjoy your kids and their activities while you can. It won’t be long before they are out of the house, although I do love being an empty nester. Congrats on the YouTube video!
Deborah @ Confessions of mother runner says
Love love love hearing you on the video! Inspiring my friend! Crazy week over here as well. Wait, you skipped your hair appointment 🙂 ???
Happy Mother’s Day!
Jessie says
Congratulations to both of your daughters! And how cool that you were featured in that interview- you’re a star!
That Zuki sounds pretty awesome, might have to get one. Thanks for sharing!
Montana @ Pretty Lil Mudder says
Rude drivers are a staple in Florida. Also bad drivers. I have near miss accident encounters almost daily on my commute.
Congrats to your daughter on her track finish! That’s awesome!

I keep saying the there has been a general decline in civility, especially since #45 took office. If he can get away with it, why can’t everyone else? Driving to work on Rand is a daily exercise in patience. I’m a fairly aggressive driver but people are out-aggressing me! It’s scary.
Have a great week–you’ve got that trip to look forward to.
MCM Mama Runs says
This end of the year stuff is killer. Congrats to your daughter on her track success!
My to do list has gotten so crazy that I actually had to move to a bigger piece of paper instead of my usual bullet journal. I do manage to finish MOST stuff each day, but some things get moved over to the next day. (A few things just keep getting moved forward until I make myself do them LOL.)
Shathiso says
Oh my word – you have touched on one of my pet peeves. Nothing frustrates me more than the scenario you described. I always let merging cars in and if we all did the same (each one of us letting one car in) traffic would flow so much more smoothly. But I have seen car drivers simply refuse to let you in and speed up as if one extra car will make a difference? Selfish.
HoHo Runs says
I am dependent on people leaving a gap for me to turn right every day when I leave work on a busy four lane highway. (The city refuses to put a light at the intersection — too close to a fire department.) Some days people play nice…others… I feel your pain.
Congrats to the girls! I’m glad they had a good season with no injuries! And, congrats to you on the Now Foods feature. I haven’t tried any of their products yet. Thanks for linking!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Congrats on your Now Foods YouTube feature! And congrats to both of your girls on their seasons.
Sadly I feel like rudeness, in general, is spreading like wildfire. Rude drivers in MA are kind of a staple around here, and I swear it’s getting worse! I’m holding my breath as my oldest gets ready to learn how to drive.
Teresa says
Congratulations on your ‘promotion’ with the Now Foods gig! And also to Thing2 on her better than expected performance. Here’s hoping your week settles down some as compared to the past few …the final weeks of the school year were always so hectic as I recall when I had all three in school! Your weekend blog adventure sounds like much fun and hopefully will be just what you need to relax!
Sharon says
Congrats to your daughter on her 5th overall finish! Sorry to hear about the rude drivers. But what a cool Youtube feature! Enjoy your blog adventure next weekend!!
