This week’s Tuesdays on the Run topic is best/worst race pics. Do you have some you love? Not so much?
I thought about the race pics I have…I don’t have that many professional ones….and only one from my first Boston is displayed in the pain cave.
I started going through my “stuff”.ย Apparently I have a DVD from my first Boston. I’m pretty sure I never even viewed it.
I know I bought a pic from my first (boiling hot) Chicago Marathon….but I couldn’t dig it up.
ย I bought pics from my first BQ in Grand Rapids 2008…but couldn’t find them.
I know I bought this pic from NYCM…but where the heck is it? My pics from the Berlin Marathon are MIA as well.
I found the ones I bought from my 2nd Boston, stuffed in an envelope on a bookshelf.
Pretty sure my eyes were closed as I rounded the final corner onto Boylston…let’s not talk about what my mouth is doing…maybe I smell the finish line…
….and then there’s this beauty. The look of complete and utter exhaustion.
My point is, if I’m going to buy race pics, why am I not displaying them?
Do you buy race pics? What do you do with them?ย

I hardly ever buy the pics….why are they so expensive??? I am seeing some races offer free pics now and then, and those I appreciate. As long as they have the photographer’s watermark, the proper source is getting credit…right? ((rant over)) You have some great pics!

Goid point! I bought the pics from my first half marathon and I think from the first Disney race we did as a family but have never displayed them.
I wish I we would have remembered this was the topic for TOTR this week. We forgot. Sorry. -M

I think I’ve bought race pics maybe twice. They are all electronic so Ive used them on the the blog and at leastI know I have them saved on my computer. I think if I ran Boston I would have to buy a pic and display it somewhere!

I’ve bought race pics twice – and that was actually something my husband did as a gift for me to display on my bib board. Otherwise – not really. AND more and more races I do don’t have official race photography! Unless it’s like a half or a full, they are often like – check out Facebook to see some of our pictures.

I don’t think I ever bought a race pic, but some of the smaller races give you the pictures for free, which is a nice perk. I can’t find any, though. One of my favorite pictures is of a friend and me after we finished a 6 hour timed run. We talked the entire time, had so much fun, and met amazing people along the way. It shows in the picture. I will have to dig that one up just to look at it again.

Race photos were always so expensive!! I love the races that offer free photos ๐ That hardly ever happens at the big races though. I’ve only framed one race pic of running with my husband because it was a really cool shot of us going over a bridge.
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Would you believe that I have never purchased a race photo? They’re so expensive and the race photogs never seem to catch me at my best ๐ I love your Boston photos! Hopefully, I’ll have some luck and get a good one from MCM this year.

I’ve bought all my marathon photos, except from that first terrible marathon I ran. I will buy photos from races if they’re good because I use them on social media. The bad ones are the best tho!

Those are all so great! My first race ever was the Chicago Marathon in 2013. I thought I was one and done, and I was so proud to have finished a marathon with no running experience, I bought a package which included something like five 5″ X 7″ photos and the DVD (which I also probably never watched). Since that time, I’ve purchased two 5″ X 7″ photos from every full marathon I’ve done–and they are all in a drawer in the same envelope. I’ve never bought photos from any of my smaller races–not because they’re not ‘worthy’; just because there are too many and the costs can be crazy. I’m going to have to come up with some fun ones and throw my hat into the TOTR ring!

Probably because you’re so busy with the family you never have time for yourself! But now that you’re thinking about it . . . I’ve never bought a physical race photo, and only a few digital ones.
I often have the open mouthed blowing look when I don’t see the photographers. I just huff, and puff . . . .
Rach says
I rarely buy photos anymore – I hate the way I look most of them time and I just never know what to do with them!
Lesley says
I only bought one race picture, from my first Disney 5k. They’re always awkward, and if I don’t like the picture, I’m not going to spend money on them. The best one I have was provided for free!
Jennifer @ Fit Nana says
I have purchased some race pics….and they are all stuck in a drawer somewhere in the envelopes each one came in. LOL I don’t know why I buy them – I never look good in them anyway. Some of my best ones were taken by family members with their phones so… ๐ Yours are pretty good though!
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
LOL I just got the race pics from the New Jersey Marathon and those finish line photos are brutal! I was hoping to end with a smile but it was NOT happening lol! Usually they do a pretty good job with me but sometimes my glasses have an unpleasant glare.
Katie Shepherd says
I only have a few race pictures on print! The rest are on my phone! When I first started running I bought all of them, but now only for special races like Disney Princess or Shamrock Marathon. I love races when they offer free pictures!
Wendy says
I have never bought race pics, most of the races around here they are free. But I also run small races ๐
Karen Bayne says
Put some up! They look great ๐
I am guilty I only have one pic hanging in my house just because I lack space lol
Deborah @ Confessions of mother runner says
I often look like I am going to die or I am on my last legs literally in all my official photos. Fun to look back on though!
Zenaida Arroyo says
I’ve never bought any pictures because they’re expensive. Plus, I’ve never liked how I look in them. ๐
Karen says
I feel as if pictures hold our memories in time and place, especially with races. I love to have those special keepsakes, but if I look awful, I won’t display them!
lindsey @ livinglovingrunner says
I don’t ever purchase pictures from races…and so many races have free photos these days!
MCM Mama Runs says
I bought pictures from my first Marine Corps Marathon. They are on a CD – I have nothing in my house to play them on LOL. Some day I may need to figure that out.
